Design Process
The strengths in my skill set
lie in the creative aspect of
the design process, following
on from the project
research.
I conduct a rigorous
exploration of the brief in
the ideation and concept
generation stage. I can then
accurately translate these
into realistic and tangible
sketches, marker renders
and CAD models to clearly
embody my vision and ideas
to colleagues and clients.

Sharp Vision
Brief: Encourage the visually impaired to
get back in the kitchen
Findings: - High rate of arthritis causes
pain and prevents the user from
chopping and slicing food
- Visual impairments result in a lack of
confidence and potentially causes harm
and food waste when preparing food
Solution: A lean or hip operated device
with multiple blade inserts and a
collection tray. The user places the
vegetable behind the flap/door and
simply leans into the product, resulting
in sliced or chopped vegetables.
Handle with Care
Brief: Improve hygiene in public restrooms
Findings:: - Only 60% of women and 30%
of men wash their hands properly, with 1
in 5 not washing their hands at all.
- Door handles are a haven for harmful
bacteria and viruses which are very easily
picked up going undetected
- 1 in 3 operate the door handle of a
restroom without their hand in order to
combat the germ riddled handles.
- Solution: Redesign of the door handle
which includes a sanitising spray deployed
as the user opens the door. Button
operated dispenser cleans the users
hands after contact with the handle.

Placement at Trivista (FEA)
Brief: Year of working in industry
Findings: TriVista Engineering is a design
engineering consultancy specialising in
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), using
Solidworks as a modelling software and
Ansys as the analysis software. I worked
partly as a CAD assistant, creating whole
or part models from technical drawings,
producing technical drawings and cleaning
up client’s models ready for analysis. The
other part of the job also gave invaluable
FEA training which in hand developed my
material knowledge, design for
manufacture and client relations skills.
Lighting Designs
Brief: Post Modernism inspired table
lamp.
Dated is a task light concept inspired
by the Post Modernism era. Featuring
bold colours and bold form, it embraces
the anything goes attitude of that
design movement
Brief: Dual Function task/mood lamp
Beam sits on the desk and offers the
use of 8 mini LED spotlights to provide
lighting for work. It also features a
blue mood light on the sides of the
product. (Beam is displayed in the
bottom two images)
