As you and I live in this abundant life, we cheer with gratitude and exaltation just as David did, “the Lord is my Shepherd!” The words “I shall not want” come next from the quill of the psalmist, has two meanings. First, that he is not lacking proper want and care. The second conveys the idea of being utterly content with the Good Shepherds care. David’s desires were in line and fellowship with God, and God always delivers. The Spirit through James helps the ears of our hearts to hear, that God gives generously and without reproach. This is in the context of wisdom and worth examining. Biblical wisdom is briefly and best defined as, “the application of knowledge.” Knowledge is knowing what to do, but wisdom is knowing how to apply it. Wisdom is having understanding that gives peace to the hearts of all men. James makes the statement, “if anyone among you lacks wisdom…” which indicates that knowledge is present, but knowing when, where, and how to go about using that knowledge was not present. Knowledge is no good to us if we don’t apply it properly. Satan doesn’t care how much bible we know as long as we never apply that knowledge by wisdom. You recall that God came to Solomon in a dream and gave him an opportunity to ask Him to give Solomon what he desired. Do you recall what he asked for? Wisdom. Solomon asked for “an understanding heart to judge His people, and to discern between good and evil” (1 Kings 3). God was so pleased with Solomon that He gave him the greatest wisdom of the world, along with all the pleasures he didn’t ask for. Solomon and David had the heart to seek after God. Both were content to dwell under the provision and pasture of their Shepherd. Its absurd to think that David or any other follower of Christ would never experience lack or need. After all, David was chased all over the country side by his enemies. In fact, “all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Tim. 3:12). This shows that there will be physical pressure and threat to live a worldly life. Obviously David was not referring to physical want in his psalm. -cont. on page 4 7Weekly Church Bulletin July 23, 2020

When I bear the mark of the cross as the branding we examined last week, only then can I belong to Him. As you and I bear that mark, only then can we have the life so promised by Jesus to be “abundant” (John 10:10). The fulfilling life that Jesus gives us now brings contentment and purpose, leading us into that final land of promise. As you and I live in this abundant life, we cheer with gratitude and exaltation just as David did, “the Lord is my Shepherd!”

The words “I shall not want” come next from the quill of the psalmist, has two meanings. First, that he is not lacking proper want and care. The second conveys the idea of being utterly content with the Good Shepherds care. David’s desires were in line and fellowship with God, and God always delivers. The Spirit through James helps the ears of our hearts to hear, that God gives generously and without reproach. This is

in the context of wisdom and worth examining.

Piedmont Road Church of Christ 3A Good Tune UpJoe W. Nichols

The elders and I met yesterday for several hours to discuss the future feeding for the fold. The elders took swift and effective action in regards to your physical safety when the COVID issue arose. With so many unknowns concerning the severity of this virus, a temporary withdrawal from public gathering was needful for the sake of all. Considering the health of others and especially those with weaker immunities was vital and we are grateful for the elders compassion. We thank God for these men as they prayerfully and powerfully act on our behalf, for our good. Pray for them as they give an account for all our souls (Heb. 13:17). Upon meeting yesterday, the focus moved from the physical to the spiritual. Now that we are more aware of the virus, its effect, its survival rate, and with our medical facilities ready to handle this situation effectively the elders have decided to move forward for the best interest for our souls. As the shepherds here have to be aware of our physical safety, our spiritual safety is of the utmost importance. Separation from God's people and from social interaction with the brotherhood isolates the christian. This is not God's plan. The elders know you need interaction and spiritual edification and are implementing a safe, yet highly effective way to bring this about. The shepherds know when the sheep need something, even when the sheep are unaware. With the charge to feed the flock of God upon them (1 Pet. 5:2), they are leading us to pasture. DIRECTION: Starting Sunday, August 2nd at 6pm, our shepherds are asking us to meet in our homes in groups of a maximum of 4 families. This will be in addition to the Sunday morning worship and Wednesday night study. You are welcome to stay within your home group color for the sake of travel. However, if you seek to build a stronger relationship with members in another group color, feel free as long it does not interfere with others staying within their group and staying within the average 2-4 family size. If you are single, and only want a smaller (3-4 ) member group, that is fine. But the elders are asking us to convene together in this intimate environment. *There will no longer be any facebook live videos starting August 2. INSTRUCTION: I will be leading us through a study of the book of Hebrews. 13 weeks. 13 chapters. These videos will be prerecorded and aired on the "Piedmont Road church of Christ" Youtube channel. As we begin Sunday August 2nd, there will be handouts for you to pick up for your home group that work alongside my lesson for you to interact, read, and study together. My videos will only be 10-15 minutes of preparation of the chapter, leaving you to edify and study amongst yourself. *If you are unable to meet in a home-group, or attend worship, the handout will be emailed to you. Please notify the office the week of the study, so that you may be in step with the rest of the church as we are edified together. VOLUNTEERS: What your shepherds are asking for is hospitable members to open their homes for these studies. They need you to coordinate with your home-group leader if you are willing to house a few members or to the full, 4 family capacity. REASON FOR THE CHANGE: As mentioned earlier, your shepherds know and are charged by God to feed, edify, encourage, and to raise you up in the time He has granted them. We live in a time where interaction and edification from His church is dire. Loneliness is a hope killer and will strangle your faith and joy in God. There are many of the fold who have expressed desire need for more spiritual meat for themselves, their families, and the good of the church. The men leading us would not dare see one of God's sheep fall in His field under their watch. BENEFITS: Tune in next Sunday night on Facebook at 5pm or Youtube at 6pm for a lesson on the benefits and need of home-groups. This lesson will be prerecorded. We all are so blessed to be apart of this church family and within the grace of God. These men are workers with us for our good. May we humbly submit to their decision with joy. Remember that their love for you is that love Paul had for the church at Corinth, "Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith."2 Cor. 1:24SHORT DETAILS:-Starting August 2nd at 6pm, we will meet in home-groups up to a maximum of 4 families. -Jake will be leading us in a study of Hebrews that will be aired on Youtube -Handouts are to be picked up the morning of the study, at worship (email the church if you need a copy)-The shepherd are to be aware of what group you are with and with whom you are studying. Brethren, may we all grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. May we send praise to Jehovah, and arrows to the Enemy. praise and arrows,

    --Jake Sutton

I shall not lack the expert care and management of my life as His sheep. He is the rancher who loves his flock and there is no greater reward for this Shepherd than to know His sheep are contented, well fed, flourishing — and He is never oblivious to their needs.

Does this satisfy you? In a flock of sheep, there can be a sheep who isn’t content with the pasture their shepherd has provided for them. Imagine a ewe lamb who continues to get out and leads others into dangerous slopes and rivers. She is never content to stay within the provision of her shepherd and wanders away to find her desire. However, upon leaving the provision of her shepherd, she always leaves the protection therein. A sheep that isn’t content to dwell in the land of its shepherd will become prey to the wildest of predator. Getting away from the true Shepherd is the same principle but with effects worse than a brutal death. A brutal eternity too far beyond the description of words. May God grant us repentance in those seasons of discontent and to trust His provision are sufficient for the season we are in. Oh what a Shepherd.
