We would value your participation as it will help our school understand parents' and carers' perspectives on their child's experience at school, including the COVID-19 'learning from home' period and other topics such as: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. Your valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey can be completed entirely online at home, will typically take about 15 minutes and is completely confidential. The survey will remain open to parents till 16 October, 2020. Please follow the link http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/PPPS2020 CHECK IN ASSESSMENT Year 3 students did their Check In assessment this week. The Check In assessment is designed to supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. The assessments are mapped to the NSW Syllabuses and National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions. STAGE 2 and STAGE 3 PUBLIC SPEAKING Congratulations to all of the speakers who represented their class in the public speaking competition this week. The quality of speakers was truly admirable, and I really enjoyed the student’s choice of topics which were relevant and interesting. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped support their child/ren with writing their speech. CROSS COUNTRY FUN EVENT Thank you to Mrs Austin for organising the Cross Country fun event yesterday. We would have loved you to have attended as parents but hope that you enjoyed the many pictures that Mrs Pryde and Mrs O'Donovan took (thank you) and posted to Facebook. OPPORTUNITY CLASS PLACEMENT TEST As you are aware, the new COVID-19 regulations implemented in schools in mid-August required the Opportunity Class Placement Test to be rescheduled to Wednesday 18 November 2020. Students attending NSW public schools will be tested at their own schools with teaching staff administering the test. Parents of confirmed applicants will receive communication directly from the High Performing Students Team to advise them to adhere to your school's drop off and pick up policy on test day. Parents are advised that they cannot stay on the school premises. Please continue to monitor the department's website for the latest information relating to the opportunity class placement process in 2020. KINDERGARTEN 2021 We are well on the way in preparing for our 2021 Kindergarten cohort. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, Kindergarten Orientation will look quite different this year. If you know of anyone living in the area, with a child due to start Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to contact the school as soon as possible. SCRIPTURE RETURNS TERM 4 We happily look forward to the return of scripture for a condensed 6 week program commencing on Friday 23 October till 27 November. We have tentatively scheduled our Christmas Scripture Assembly for Friday 4 December, but will confirm closer to the time if this can proceed. MR NARRIS’ NAIL POLISH This October I will again be adorning some nail polish and taking part in the Polished Man campaign. With currently 1 child dying every 5 minutes as a result of violence and over one billion children impacted by violence last year alone, I’ll be doing this to start conversations, increase awareness and raise funds to help end violence against children around the world.

Last year thanks to some amazing support I was one of the top 100 fund raisers in Australia. This year we are hoping to repeat this. If you can, donate to my page at https://my.polishedman.com/bill-narris and thanks in advance for the support. SCHOOL HOLIDAY SECURITY We all work together to ensure that our school site is kept safe. If you see anything that you are worried about please call the School Security Unit's 1300 88 00 21 hotline number.

We will be having works completed over the holiday period, including a footpath on the Prince Street side and some asphalt to correct some areas in the playground. COVID 19 UPDATE In the latest COVID 19 communication from the Department, please see some of the activities that can now proceed for Term 4, with restrictions: · Kindergarten orientations · Year 6-7 transitions · Interschool activities · End of year celebrations · Excursions and day camps. As such, we will provide more information about these activities at the beginning of Term 4. Wishing all of our students, parents and staff a relaxing and safe school holiday break! Looking forward to your return on Monday 12 October. Karen Sellick Principal

Shared Language of Learning

Be Collaborative

The key message about being collaborative is that they can grow their own idea and thinking by sharing learning with others. They understand that collaboration requires active listening skills to understand and build on the ideas of others. They also understand that it requires them to make contributions. Collaboration requires respectful support, challenge and feedback to stimulate learning and growth. Homework task Your challenge this week is to find a spring job around the house or even undertake a new project like a small veggie or herb garden. Work together with your family/friends to develop a plan of attack and collaboratively bring this idea/job/project to fruition, giving everyone a role and responsibility to ensure its success. After it is completed reflect on the saying ‘many hands make for light work’.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR REWARD The Year 3 and Year 4 students enjoyed their ‘reward’ of free choice of fun activities on Wednesday. This is our way of saying THANK YOU, we appreciate your effort to uphold our Picnic Point CARES rules and to engage in meaningful learning in the classroom. The students enjoyed various indoor and outdoor activities, with mufti and Crazy Hair day an extra bonus!

STARTSMART INCURSION All our Stage 2 classes will enjoy a visit by the educator from the StartSmart program. Although it is organised by the Commonwealth Bank and is about money, saving and finance, it is by no means a promotional event. The students will learn about money at a level appropriate to their age and related to our mathematics unit on Money. These workshops have been tried and tested in the past and found to be extremely valuable. The program is provided free of charge. OTHER INCURSIONS Year 3 will enjoy an incursion provided by the Royal National Park education centre, to support units of study covered this semester. More details will be provided early next term. The Year 4 teachers are still investigating suitable incursion opportunities to enhance our units on the First Fleet, First Contacts and Colonisation. OC WORKSHOPS Due to the postponement of the Opportunity Class Placement Test to 18 November, the OC practice workshops will continue in Term 4, starting in Week 2. They will again be held on Wednesday mornings, at 8:00am. RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT Parents please support your children in replenishing their basic equipment for Term 4. They will need at least the following:

● sharp pencils ● eraser ● ruler ● blue pen ● red pen ● scissors ● glue stick

Many thanks. HAPPY HOLIDAYS All the Stage 2 teachers would like to wish you and your families a very enjoyable, adventurous and exciting holiday break. We look forward to your refreshed return, ready to kick-start Term 4!

Stage 3 Information GOLD PRINCIPAL’S AWARDS Congratulations to the following students who have received a Gold Principal’s award at assembly.

THANK YOU I would like to thank Mr Belgre for relieving for me during my leave. I knew that the seniors were in great hands. He did a wonderful job! TEEN RANCH Due to the lifting of restrictions we are hoping that Teen Ranch will go ahead. We will need to wait for more direction from the Department to make a final call. We will let you know you early in next term as to the final decision. Cross your fingers! PUBLIC SPEAKING Congratulations to Nathan Nguyen and Halina Zhu who attained equal 1st Place and Hayden Gibbons received Highly Commended when they represented their class at our stage finals last week. We are all so proud of how you represented our classes. Great work! LEADERSHIP TEAM 2021 Nominations for leadership roles in 2021 have been distributed and Year 5 students must consider if they will run for any of these positions. We urge parents to discuss the responsibilities and positive aspects of these positions and we wish all students the best of luck with the elections next term.

Nomination forms are to be returned to Mrs Chatt on or before 3:00pm Friday 30 October. No late nominations will be accepted.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL It looks like we will be able to have our Farewell! Or at least we’ll be crossing our fingers. We will be getting in touch with Revesby Workers to make sure that we have our booking. We will send more information as we know more. YEAR 6 DVD It’s time to start getting things ready for the farewell. One of the highlights of the night is a DVD Mrs Chatt puts together using the students photo. She needs a baby photo for every student and a Kindy photo if your child was not at PPPS for Kindy. You can either email the photos to Mrs Chatt at [email protected] or send in a hard copy and she will scan it and send it home straight away.

PEER SUPPORT Today was the final lesson for Peer Support. We are all so proud of the Year 6 students who stepped up and put into place all their learner qualities to lead their group. Over the past weeks we have seen them mature into fantastic group leaders using their skills to overcome fears, they’ve had to be critical thinkers in situations where their group members are asking questions. They’ve had to think on their feet when their lessons have gone sideways. Well done Year 6! RETURNING IN TERM 4 Term 4 is a very busy time, especially for Stage 3. We stress the importance for all students to return with a positive work ethic and adherence to our strict uniform code. We realise that uniforms may start to get a little snug and it would be pointless for parents to purchase new items of clothing. Parents are reminded that our uniform shop has a large selection of quality pre loved garments and we urge families to use this service if required. It is also time for the students to take stock of stationery requirements, clean out school bags and check that all belongings are clearly labelled.

Band

BAND IN TERM 4 We are hopeful that we may be able to resume band lessons in Term 4. Watch this space and notes for more information as we receive updated instructions from the department!

Choir SENIOR CHOIR Sadly, once again our talented singers are unable to join together to increase their musical skills due to departmental rules regarding COVID 19. Hopefully in Term 4 we can once again come together and enjoy the love of singing together. If any student would like to collect a flyer about Ms Bec Fisher’s free 4 week introduction course at Sing OZ studios, please see Ms Collinet.

Chess UPCOMING EVENTS: Chess Academy Lessons return Wed 14 Oct (Week 1) CHESS ACADEMY We are pleased to inform our chess enthusiasts that the Chess Academy lessons will return in Term 4. They will be starting in Week 1 and will be held, as usual, in Mrs Stawski’s and Mrs Allen’s classrooms from 3:00pm to 4:00pm each Wednesday. Please contact the Chess Academy to ensure your child is enrolled, if they wish to participate in the program.

SRC CRAZY HAIR DAY It was amazing to see some of the crazy hair this week on Wednesday. Once again our amazing community help us raised $652.20 for this fundraiser, with all of the money raised being donated to Cystic Fibrosis Australia. Cystic Fibrosis Australia provides support and services to people with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and their carers and families. This is complemented by a commitment to research and a quality improvement program focussing on improved clinical care for people with CF.

Gardening Club Gardening Club have been working hard trimming back our abundant parsley plants and getting ready for our spring crops. Our strawberries are being replanted and are already starting to bear fruit. In the next few weeks we will start planting beans, which 1 Osaka have started growing in their classroom, and new tomato plants. We can’t wait for Spring!
