S a r a so t a f lo r i d aAs a community, YWAM Herrnhut has entered into a new season of expansion and growth and as Pick A Pocket we are experiencing the same. We are happy to welcome 8 new members to our Pick A Pocket team! As we are growing, we are also expanding. Three members of the Pick A Pocket team have moved to Florida to pioneer a Marriage of the Arts DTS with the goal of planting a long term satellite base from ywam herrnhut!

We look forward in bringing the vision of Pick a Pocket to America and are excited to see new platforms developing and ways to reach out. The team in Florida will begin by starting the very first Stateside Marriage of the Arts DTS in January 2014! For more information check out www.ywamherrnhut.com

Pick A Pocket was able to start a homeless ministry called “Disposable?” in

London during the 2012 Olympics. This project is about giving the homeless a

voice to tell their stories and share their perspective on life, and the opportunity

to use their art and skills in new ways. We did this by giving them disposable

cameras to take pictures of their daily life; and what came out was absolutely

stunning. Adele, a long-term worker, continued working with them after we left

in July 2012. Every Monday Adele meets with them in The Living Room Cafe, hosted

by City Gate Church, to evaluate their photos. Pocketeers, Matthew & Rebecca,

went to London in April to assist Adele in creating a logo, printing photos, buying

frames, and putting up their first exhibition. It´s amazing to see them create and

see the shift from being labeled as “homeless” to “photographer”. We want to

continue this project and are thinking about bringing this exhibition to [‘viltnis] cafe and gallery in Herrnhut, and even on future Pick A Pocket tours.

Our cafe and gallery, [‘viltnis], has

been up and running since October

2012. We have had many locals as

well as people from out of town

come in to enjoy a cup of coffee and

to view the art exhibitions. Slowly

but surely we are reaching out to

the community of Herrnhut and

deepening friendships. Inside

[‘viltnis], we have a space for our

Pocketeers to work on their art.. In

the near future we will be able to

have the basement of the cafe open

up for our team to have an even

bigger working space.

a testimony from cafe barista, Ashley Davis.

“Part of the vision of the gallery

has always been to bring people

revelation of Jesus through the art

on display. Our second exhibition

was one that we felt strongly that

was orchestrated by God. We were

excited to see what He had in store.

Shortly after the opening, we had a

women come in to the cafe which we

spoke briefly as she drank her

coffee. As she walked around the

gallery, I felt that I was supposed

to ask if I could pray for her. She

agreed and as I prayed, I noticed that

she had begun to cry and so I

stopped and asked her why. She told

me that as she read one of the

artists statements and that God

spoke to her and cleared up the

confusion and pain that she has had

for many years. We continued

praying and as we finished she told

me that she felt completely free of

the depression she had been

battling for over 30 years. Praise be

to the Father that heals and

delivers!!!”

We are looking forward to our upcoming outreaches and

tours this year which enable us to partner with

missionaries on the field and serve the poor. This summer/

early fall we are looking forward to reaching out to two

ministries in India that were started out of the YWAM

Herrnhut base. One of these is a German Bakery that was

started to help provide jobs and support for women

working in the red light districts in India so that they can

have alternative options for work and life. The other is a

ministry that focuses on supporting orphaned street

children and HIV victims in the rural areas of india. A small

team of Pocketeers will be visiting both projects to find

new ways to serve alongside these ministries.

This October, one of our Pocketeers, Stephen Sou, will have

a gallery exhibition in Shanghai, China. HIs exhibition will

be focused on bringing the Gospel through his paintings. “I

take verses from the Bible and create paintings out of the

different messages and meanings. It’s not an obvious

biblical painting so it can reach many people. I want to

show what people don’t see and understand in the Bible

through these paintings.” StepHen will be in Shanghai for

one month. To view his work please click here : www.stephensou.carbonmade.com

Liz and the Lions will be going on tour this May-June with

Brian Campbell, a musician from the USA. They will be

traveling through Germany, Poland and Austria. Check out

www.facebook.com/lizandthelions for tour dates,

locations and other information.

Pick A Pocket TV is coming back to life!

Last year, we created a few episodes

hosted by Uli and Amanda, but now with a

newly formed team for Pick A Pocket TV,

we are currently working on new

episodes that will present a closer look

at the lifestyles of missionary- artists,

and how different people are using the

arts to fight extreme poverty. In a few

more weeks we will be releasing our

first episode of the year. we are excited

to share stories about our different pick

a pocket artists, the inspiration behind

their art, and testimonies about the

people they’ve met, If you want to see

what Pick A Pocket TV has created in the

past, please visit : www.vimeo.com/pickapocket
