All of these activities are centered around en- couraging young musicians in our community. The Piano Festival & Competition will be held on March 4 th , followed by the Honors Recitals on March 11 th . DGMC has held this event since 1943 to provide an opportunity for piano students to perform in front of and learn from expe- rienced judges. On March 23 rd , we will be holding our Spring House Concert, a benefit concert to raise money for the student music awards which DGMC will present in May. Meanwhile, we are in the process of accepting and reviewing applications for these music awards. We then get to hear last years winners at the Rising Stars concert on April 3 rd . Finally, we are again working with the middle school orchestra teachers in District 58 to determine which students will benefit the most from receiving Bulut Memorial Fund Awards designed to introduce selected 5th, 6th or 7th grade string students to private lessons. Benefit House Concert Our second House Concert is coming soon! It will be held on Friday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available on the new website. This evening is such a special event. The concert is a fantastic deal for $35 and the reception afterward is a great time to relax and enjoy the company of other music lovers. All the details are on page 2. New Look for the DGMC Website On March 1 st , the Downers Grove Music Clubs website will have a new modern look. Tom Ewing has been working behind the scenes for many months to update our website. It not only views better on large computer displays, but it is also designed to display well on a tablet or smart phone. Rising Stars Concert The winners of our 2017 Rising Stars Awards will be performing on Tuesday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Downers Grove Public Library. In addition, an all-girl choir of 6th graders who are members of the Spirito! Singers will be per- forming. Spirito! is a choral organization made up of of three auditioned choirs (rehearsing in Downers Grove, Elmhurst and LaGrange) of girls in grades 5 through 8. Get Ready for Spring!

Many things are happening this month, as we wait for spring to arrive. All of these activities are centered around en-couraging young musicians in our community.

The Piano Festival & Competition will be held on March 4th, followed by the Honors Recitals on March 11

th. DGMC

has held this event since 1943 to provide an opportunity for piano students to perform in front of and learn from expe-rienced judges.

On March 1st, the Downers Grove Music Club’s website will have a new modern look. Tom Ewing has been working

2018 Elections

Our club elections will be held at the end of the program on Sunday, May 20th. A Nominating Committee has been appointed, consisting of Mike Surratt, chairperson, Joyce Tumea and Sharon West. There are three board members whose terms are ending this club year: VP of Artistic Development (Charlotte Ewing), Treas-urer (Kristina Phelps) and Member at Large (Chris Garofalo). The Nominating Committee will be preparing a slate of candidates to pre-sent to our members before the May election. If you would like to nominate someone to be considered for any of these positions, please contact any of the committee members. Mike can be called at 630-209-0149 or emailed at [email protected].

Performers Needed! There are still some spots open in our concert on Sunday, May 20 at 2:00 pm. at the DG Li-brary. The theme is “Classical Jam” so any “classical” music will work. If interested, please contact Charlotte Ewing at [email protected] or 630-985-8472.

Charles Dickerman Memorial Music Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Downers Grove is now ac-cepting applications for the 2018 Charles Dick-erman Music Scholarship. Each year the Rota-ry Club presents a $2,000 scholarship check to a deserving high school senior who resides in Downers Grove or in the District 99 attendance area. Charles Dickerman was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Downers Grove. He was also a very active member of the Downers Grove Music Club.

A scholarship application can be downloaded at www.dgrotary.com Applicants must have their forms postmarked by Wednesday, April 4, 2018. If selected as a finalist, candidates must be available for an interview and audition on the evening of Monday, April 30, 2018.

DGMC Music Awards

Applications for our DGMC Music Awards are currently being accepted from juniors and sen-iors who attend one of the District 99 high schools. If you know of any talented young mu-sicians who might qualify, please encourage them to apply. Application forms must be com-pleted and mailed or e-mailed, along with a performance video recording, by April 1, 2018. All directions and application forms can be found on our website by clicking the appro-priate award found under Education on the top of most webpages. Juniors are eligible for a Rising Stars Music Award; seniors are eli-gible for a College Music Award.
