Inpatient /Outpatient Services

The Physiotherapy Department at Calvary Mater Newcastle provides both inpatient and outpatient services.

Our opening hours are from 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

Outpatient services include musculoskeletal physiotherapy, lymphoedema therapy and mobility assessments. A referral from a GP, or treating medical practitioner is required for attending outpatient physiotherapy. To book in, please fax the referral to the fax number listed over leaf.

A Falls Prevention Group is held every Tuesday from 9:30am to 11am in our Physical Therapies Department on Level 3, over a six week period. This gentle exercise class is supervised by a physiotherapist and exercise physiologist.

Every week an education session is held, as part of the group, focusing on falls prevention strategies conducted by various health professionals. A Falls Prevention referral is required to attend this group from a GP or treating medical practitioner.

Our Conditioning Class is held twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays at 1:30pm to 2:30pm and is supervised by a physiotherapist.

This class is suitable for people who are aiming to improve their general fitness

and strength, whose exercise levels may have become reduced from lower back pain, treatment for cancer or other medical conditions.

People usually attend for a period of six weeks. Referral to attend this class can be from a GP, treating medical practitioner, allied health professional or a nurse.

If you are unable to attend these classes, we can provide a one-off assessment and provision of a suitable individualised home exercise program.
