Transcript of PHYSICS CLUB ACTIVITIES - LAHC
PHYSICS CLUB ACTIVITIES
• Participation at Pittcon 2012 (March 2012).
• Manufacture of tapered fibers (Summer 2012).
• Measurements of light coupling into a tapered
optical fiber (Summer 2012).
• Installation of a liquid level sensor at Ballona
Wetlands (in conjunction with Loyola Marymount
University and Santa Monica Bay Restoration
Commission) (Summer/Fall 2012).
PHYSICS CLUB ACTIVITIES• Demonstration of different types of sensors
(NO3-, PO4
-3, K+, Ca++, Mg++, Liquid Level) (Fall
2012).
• Visit by Boeing representative Dr. Robert
Frampton (Fall 2012).

2012)
• Attendance to the Winter meeting of the SCAAPT
at CSUN (Winter 2012).
PHYSICS CLUB ACTIVITIES
• Presentation to the LA Harbor Foundation
(Winter 2012).
• Semester end Karaoke nights (December 2012
and June 2013).

2013 (March 2013).
• Presentation at Brazil’s INEO conference (April
2013).
PHYSICS CLUB ACTIVITIES• Continuing work on the optical fiber
colorimeter (Spring through Fall 2013).
• Presentation of the work done by the Club at
several Brazilian universities (Summer 2013).

SIDE ILLUMINATED OPTICAL
FIBER SENSOR• Distributed/multi point sensing easily accomplished.
• Can detect more than one parameter.
• High spatial resolution at low cost.
• High signal output.
• Simple detection system.
• Can be adapted to handle almost any optical sensing
configuration.
