Digital pressure and temperature control

In addition to EPC, the Series 816 is equipped with sensors to monitor and compensate for temperature and barometric pressure, The result is a gas chromatograph with exceptional stability requiring less frequent calibration.

EPC provides precise digital control of all pneumatic functions directly from the instrument’s keyboard. The advanced pneumatic design reduces the risk of contamination and leaks in the system. Carrier and detector gas flow are easier to implement and control for more efficient use of consumables. The Series 816 GC also features a gas saver function to reduce gas flow between sample runs.

Rapid analysis is provided with higher oven temperature programming rates, including clock time programming that allows for automatic preparation of the system for the first analysis of the day. Operating temperatures are independently controlled at six zones in addition to the column oven. Valves are thermally isolated from the oven’s heating cycles.

Operating the instrument

The user interfaces with the Series 816 GC through a simple alphanumeric keyboard with easy to use color coded soft keys and basic key sequences. The system programming cycles and instrument status including oven temperature ramp are clearly indicated with light emitting diode (LED) displays. The four line liquid crystal display (LCD) communicates analysis conditions in uncomplicated language. The simple tough of a soft key brings the user into immediate control of the GC — real time chromatograms, editing features, method development and setup, etc. A key marked INFO provides helpful answers if needed. Automatic valve control, sequence control, pre-run events and post run programming are all accomplished from the keyboard.

Versatile sample injection choices

GOW-MAC offers users several injection modes to meet their needs for accuracy, reproducibility and efficiency.

Split/Splitless injection

Split/splitless injection modes with increased sensitivity through larger volume injections are achieved with the advanced pneumatics offered by the Series 816 GC. The split/splitless capillary inlet is designed so that the split mode is back pressure regulated for every setting of split ratio, and the splitless mode is forward pressure regulated. The result is minimal sample discrimination and degradation.

Packed column injection

Packed column injections with increased precision are achieved by utilizing the system’s electronic flow control capabilities. Accommodates metal or glass columns. Direct sample injection to wide bore (0.53 mm) fused silica capillary columns can be either flow (720 mL/min.) or pressure controlled.

Flexible valve design

Unique to the Series 816 GC is GOW-MAC engineering department’s ability to provide virtually any flow configuration. Gas sampling and column switching capabilities are provided through a variety of gas sample valve configurations. Depending upon the intended method, the Series 816 GC can support up to ten columns as well as up to seven automated valves for a single application. Optimum separation and precise quantification is assured by selecting from 4, 6, 8 or 10-port valves. Each valve can be controlled directly or in sequence for different gas streams. EPC allows programmable control of sample valves allowing injections either continuously or at programmed intervals. Column switching is supported by the ability to change valve positions as a function of the chromatographic run. Valves are pneumatic actuated and can be temperature controlled, purged, or constructed of corrosion resistant materials.

Direct liquid injections onto the head of the column are allowable with temperature programmable cool on-column features.

Cooled injection system (CIS) minimized sample discrimination during delivery to the column or to separate low boiling point components selectively.

Data handling capabilities

The automation and communications features of the Series 816 GC can be interfaced by various data handling devices, each complementing specific customer requirements

Software

GOW-MAC offers a variety of interactive PC chromatography data software packages. Each differs in the degree of remote instrument control and requested comprehensive data handling and reporting capability.

Integrators

Essential data reporting and manipulation can be accomplished with the use of most commercially available computing integrators.

The Series 816 GC is equipped with an RS-232-C data interface port, two analog output channels (1 mV, 1 V, and 10 V), and one IEEE-488 parallel port for interfacing to modems, plotters and various other devices as standard. INET interface is optional.

GOW-MAC DetectorsThe Series 816 GC can handle virtually any application: petrochemical, semiconductor, food, flavor, solvent or industrial chemical. GOW-MAC has manufactured hundreds of thousands of detectors since the inception of gas chromatography, including award winning and patented detectors. The Series 816 GC accommodates single or dual detector configurations. Each independently temperature controlled detector can operate either individually, in series, or in parallel modes.
