English We will be sharing in the reading and comprehension of ‘Just William’ by Richmal Crompton and ‘Boy: Tales of Childhood” by Roald Dahl as our class texts this term. These will link to our topic work and help us to get a feel for the experience of life across the decades of the 20 th Century. Amongst other things, we will use these texts for reading comprehension and as a springboard into all of our English work. We will write non-chronological reports, explanation texts, and a variety of styles of poem. We will also focus heavily on play scripts and upon empathy and point of view in our writing of narratives. Throughout the week there will be a focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar and on Thursdays we will specifically work on extended writing composition and the editing of our written work. Children will be involved in a reading carousel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when they will have the opportunity to work in small guided groups, to read independently, to read with a partner/buddy and 1:1 with an adult.
