• Open an A3 Landscape Document• Copy and paste your images in• Pay attention to codes and conventions• Use text boxes and WordArt to create your article• Each member of the group should submit a couple of

Deconstruction of a Double Page Spread

DROPPED CAP:This code is found at the start of text and draws the eye to the beginning of the text.

TAB:This allows the reader to find out what the article is about when flicking through the magazine.CAPTION:This gives information on the picture e.g who it is/where it was.

GREY BOX:This gives information linked to the star in the article e.g album releases.

PULL OUT QUOTE:This breaks up the main text making it easier to read.

MODE OF ADDRESS:This is informal in NME to appeal the target audience.

COLUMNS:Text is organised vertically to break up dense text in keeping with CODE for print media

GUTTER:The space in the middle of the page, left blank for folding and stapling

PHOTO 1: I rejected this photograph because the background was too busy for me to be able to position text around.

PHOTO 2: The lack of eye contact in this photograph meant that it would not work on the page.

PHOTO 3: As with the first photograph, the background was also too busy, and it was pixelated when I increased the size.

Music Video Double Page SpreadTAB:The tab is positioned in top left hand corner as it allows the reader to see what the article is about while flicking through the magazine

DROPPED CAP:The conventional dropped cap shows the reader where to start reading from.

HEADLINE:This is the title of the article, and shows a little of what the article is about.

STANDFIRST:This is the first paragraph is larger front. It is an introduction to article and helps break up the text.

PAGE NUMBERS:The page numbers are conventional for double page spreads as they allow the reader to find the article easier.

PULL OUT QUOTE:The pull out quote is conventional, as it breaks up the text making it easier to read.

PICTURE:The picture relates to the text, however is poor quality and is not clear.

Mode of Address• How the magazine “speaks” to the reader.

• Can be friendly, authoritative, colloquial, informative, intelligent, sisterly

• Mode of address depends on genre and target audience

• Can be conveyed through use of colour, layout, photography and stars as well as journalism
