This image was taken during my second year at college, studying A- level Photography. For this particular project I was looking at the idea of “Secrets and Lies” and how everyone has their own secrets yet from the outside you cannot tell and you would know no different. People pretend and hide their inner feelings. This project allowed me to explore that idea by writing inner feeling on top of the photographs.

My main inspiration for this project was Post Secret, which is a society that collects anonymous postcards off members of the general public. They create and construct their own personal post cards that reveal their deepest darkest secrets that are unspoken. These may be as personal as relationship problems, eating problems and dealing with a death. I decided to look at body image and eating disorders. Here I have tried to demonstrate how people look fine and beautiful on the inside but they hold a secret or problem.

I feel this image works really well, I like how the model is placed very central and the contrast between the dark colours in the photograph against the models bright blue eyes is very effective.

Further developing this project, I continued by looking at how women become insure about their bodies after child birth and how it can turn into Mothers resenting their children and wishing they had never had them. Obviously this is an awful thought, but this project is about exploring the unsaid feelings and secrets people hold. I decided to crop out the models head as the post cards are anonymous therefore I didn’t want to reveal her identity in these pictures.

Looking at the opposite to this idea, I also explored the idea of girls who are really skinny and have beautiful bodies, that also feel insecure and hate their bodies. I looked at the way the media encourages girls to be skinny and how people aren't seen as sexy or beautiful unless they are model skinny. I feel the media gives young girls lots of insecurities about their bodies.

For the final shoot, I developed the idea of insecurity and looked at the idea that young girls think they have to grow up too quickly. To demonstrate this idea, I did two separate photo shoots with my little sister. The first we did a photo shoot with her wearing no make up at all looking very young and innocent. The second shoot we did we dressed her up with a lot of make up and did her hair to make her look a lot older than her actual age. For my final outcomes I combined the two types of images, putting them next to each other to allow people to compare the two, looking at how make up and attitude can make someone look a lot older than they actually are.

When I was happy with the result, I began adding captions that talked about wanting to fit in and young girls feeling they have to grow up a lot quicker just to be accepted by their peers.

Within photography, I have also looked at landscapes, particularly looking at water and reflection. I feel the repetition and patterns created due to reflection in water is very effective.

I have carefully looked at angle and position ensuring the photo looks well composed and professional. I feel the image on the right works well as I have captured the horizon in the centre of the image creating a clear parallel reflection of the boats in the water.

When looking at landscapes I enjoy capturing the raw natural elements found within nature. Within this series of images I think the pastel colour palette is very complimentary towards one another.

Here on this photo shoot I was concentrating on capturing moody atmospheres, I feel I have achieved this well here, the contrast between the calm landscape with bright colours, against the cloudy, dark clouds works really well together. In the right photograph, I have been successfully able to capture the silhouette of the tree branches against the stormy sky and it is very effective.

For this photo shoot I was documenting on the Royal wedding. This shoot was difficult as everything was moving so I had to use a continuous shutter speed and try to keep the camera completely still, yet I still feel the final outcomes were a great success.

For this area of photography I looked at doing personal photography for families and friends who wanted professional photographs done for keepsake. I have tried capturing both staged and natural emotions to result in beautiful photographs.
