Page 2: Photography planning

My main image will consist of a male character at a medium close up. They will look straight into the camera for direct address. Many magazines do this so I will use this too. This will give the reader a sense of connectedness with the character. As well as this the image will be shot in a studio, this is so I can edit out the background and add in a background which fits my magazine better. Many magazines already do this and if I edit out the background to a plain background all the focus will be on the character. The character will be wearing an outfit which represents the genre. For example, they will be wearing black jeans a black top and possibly a jean jacket. This outfit will look like the typical band member for a rock band. A prop will also be used such as a guitar to again reinforce the idea of a rock band. The main image will draw in the right audience because the character will instantly portray a rock genre. The image will also be quite large and will be the main focus of the cover page. This is what my audience look for first when they look at a magazine front cover.

For my sub-images I will take pictures of vinyls, merchandise, “bands” and musical instruments. These again will show that the magazine is a rock magazine. And the sub-images will be a taster of what is inside, hopefully persuading the audience to look inside and buy the magazine.

Contents page

For my contents pages I will have a female character. This is because I used a male on the front cover and I want to show that this magazine is for both genders. My character will be looking to the right hand side and will be singing into the microphone, almost looking like they are shouting. This shows the rebellious side of my audience and the genre. This helps the audience connect with the magazine. My character is also not looking at the camera so there is a sense of mystery. The shot I will use is a medium long shot. So I have my character from the knees up. This is so we can focus on her singing, her facial expressions and also her guitar. I will shoot this in the studio so I can edit out the background. By only using one image, this will give my magazine a minimalistic look so it will look organised and clear. The contents will be situated on the right hand side underneath different headings. This will be clear to find and easy to read. My character will be wearing a band t-shirt, and jeans. This is so my character look like they are in part of a band. The merchandise they wear will be a rock band. To again reinforce the rock genre.

Double page spread

For my double page spread I will have 3 characters as a band. There will be one large image (the main image) on the left hand side. This will be an out of studio shot, so the image will look professional and will give the readers a chance to see the band in another setting other than the usual- at a concert. The type of shot will be a long shot so you can see all of the characters and their props. The character on the left will have a guitar which will lean against them, the middle will have drum sticks and the one closest to the right will also have a guitar which they will be holding. The top of the guitar will go over to the right hand side of the page. The main text will go around this. This makes the reader notice the guitar and the guitar portrays the genre. On the right hand side there will be the main text. With 3 smaller images located at the bottom of the page. These images will be of the band out of the studio again, so the audience can connect with them and see the band as they usually are. One image will be a live image from a concert. The images will all be in black and white like the MCR images to your right. This will give the article an old school vibe which links to the band and the music they play. Which will be classic rock. The clothes they wear will be dark colours- grey, black, navy etc. This again shows that the band play rock music. As rock band members usually wear dark colours.
