International Yoga Day Observation in Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) Pratiksha Nagar. Date: 27 th June 2018 Venue: UHTC-Ramkrishna Sarada Samiti, Pratiksha Nagar, Sion. A second session to create awareness about benefits of yoga was conducted on 27th June in UHTC of K. J. Somaiya Medical College and Research centre - Ramkrishna Sarada Samiti, Pratiksha Nagar, Sion by Dept. of Community Medicine. The session was coordinated by Medical Social worker Mrs. Priya Parab. The yoga Session was conducted by Ms Tejal Kothmire, Statistician cum Tutor of Dept. of Community Medicines who is also a Volunteer from Spiritual organization ‘The Art of Living’ and trained to take Yoga Sessions as per the Standard Protocol issued by The AYUSH Ministry i.e. Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, Government of India. The participants were the children who attended summer camp at Ramkrishna Sarada Samiti and hypertensive , diabetic patients availing treatment at the HT DM clinic at UHTC. For the children ,the session began with a revision of their learnings from summer camp, followed by Bhastrika Pranayam and Ram dhyan. After meditation children prayed for World Peace, All round progress of our Nation , the farmers , the society, their families and for their own progress in all the aspects of life. For HTDM patients, the session started with creating awareness about relevance of stress and importance of Yoga to prevent stress along with its physical and mental consequences. The patients were then taught a powerful breathing technique which is very beneficial for getting relief from Hypertension and Diabetes called Kapalbhati Pranayam by meditation. A separate session was conducted for 6 hypertensive ladies who came late for HTDM OPD. They were then taught to do OM chanting which helps to calm the nervous system and create positivity followed by Panchakosha Meditation. Faculty and interns also participated in the session. All the people who attended this session experienced peaceful and calm mind with lesser thoughts in head. The Hypertensive patients expressed their wish to have regular Yoga and meditation sessions in UHTC with the help of which they can improve their overall health and cope with the stress of day to day life. Total beneficiaries : 10 children, 10 patients, 2 faculty, 3 non teaching staff and 5 interns
