Analysis of shots The shots I have taken of Edan (lead artist of band ‘Dystopia’) are apart of the research and planning component of the course that display the key characteristics of rock in visual form and represent ‘Dystopia’ against existing artists such as Amy Lee. The characteristics of rock are shown through the various different shots that differentiate through mise en scene that includes lighting, notion of looking, setting and poses whilst all maintaining the same styles associated with rock such as the use of dark clothing the use of heavy eye makeup and lipstick that is dominant. Some shots conform to the critical feminist film interpretation by Lauren Mulvey in 1975 called the male gaze. The male gaze “is the way in which the visual arts and literature depict the world and women from a masculine point of view, presenting women as objects of male pleasure.” All aspects aim to attract audiences that love rock music, through motifs that occur across the genre which help reinforce the ‘Dystopia’ record label. To ensure I have achieved this I have taken many shots of existing artists such as Amy Lee that I have recreated in my won work.
