You have lovingly and graciously given me the time to get reconnected and refreshed with my Lord and I pray that you will all reap the benefits of having a pastor who has recommitted himself to the Lord through Valley Isle Fellowship. I will be demanding much of myself, but I will be encouraging all of you to give much of yourselves to the Lord as well. My deepest desire is that you will bring nothing but glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ in all that you think, do, and say. Once again, I want to say thank you! I want to also ask that you join with me in seeking to bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ through our per- sonal lives and through our cooperative life in and through Valley Isle Fellowship. May the Lord bless us all as we strive to love and obey Him! It is with a heart full of love and gratitude that I want to say to all of you in Valley Isle Fellowship, “Thank you very much!” These last three months of rest, re- cuperation, and rejuvenation have been very good for me. Your love, support, and especially your prayers for Clarice and I during this extended leave meant so much to us. So once again, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you. My health is doing so much better than when I started this leave. Therefore, I am feel- ing better and I am taking steps to live a healthier life style. A better diet and a more active regime of walking are helping to keep me in a better physical state. There has been a change in medication and a reinstatement of a CPAP machine to help me with my sleep apnea. Clarice and I were able to take a trip to the Dallas, TX area to attend the Southern Baptist Convention and also to visit with Jeremy, Amy, Grayson, and Ava. We were also able to go to Hilo and visit with friends, In Christ Alone and with family. These three months have been enjoyable and productive in many ways. Most importantly, I took the time to reconnect with my Lord. In my quiet times, I discovered that I was really experiencing “burn-out”. Because of this, I was also seeking the Lord’s permission to retire. However, the Lord impressed upon me that my work is not finished and I will have to continue to minister and serve Him until He brings it to an end or you (the people of Valley Isle Fellowship) have had enough of me and ask me to leave. The Lord made it very clear that if I want to be loving and obedient unto Him, then I would have to submit to His desires and lead

you to glorify Him in greater ways.

In the weeks and months ahead, I will be working with VIF’s lead-ership to try and revitalize and strengthen existing ministries and to continue to press us all on to a discipleship that fully encompasses a deeper and fuller love and obe-dience to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I want to also ask that you join with me in seeking to bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ through our per-sonal lives and through our cooperative life in and through Valley Isle Fellowship. May the Lord bless us all as we strive to love and obey Him!

Your love, support, and especially your prayers for Clarice and I during this extended leave meant so much to us. So once again, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you.

My health is doing so much better than when I started this leave. Therefore, I am feel-ing better and I am taking steps to live a healthier life style. A better diet and a more active regime of walking are helping to keep me in a better physical

state. There has been a change in medication and a reinstatement of a CPAP machine to help me with my sleep apnea.

Thunder shook the valley we were hiking in as I (Rachael) asked the question I had been wondering for months, “So how have you been spiritually?” “It’s been kinda hard,” replied Brandi, “I haven’t been around other Christians for a long time. But do you remember those two circle diagrams you showed me? The one where either Christ is on the throne or I am?” “Yeah, I remember,” I said. “Yeah, well I tried to think about that a lot this past year since I’ve been gone and it’s helped.” “That’s great!” I said enthusias-tically, excited that Brandi had remembered and applied things we had gone over when I discipled her.

You may remember a student named Brandi who I had the privilege of leading to Christ back in 2016. I got to disciple her that whole school year, but she was not able to return to school in 2017. We kept in touch a bit over the phone and I continued to go through our discipleship packet with her. But then I couldn’t get a hold of her since January. Last week I received a text from Brandi saying that she was back living and working in Durango. Excitedly I asked if she wanted to hike and catch up.

As I picked her up to hike the ominous grey sky let lose a barrage of rain and thunder. We decided to brave the elements and hike anyways. As we talked I learned that she had also been reading some devo-tionals as well as applying things from our previous discipleship.

Please pray for Brandi as she continues to work in Durango in the hopes of being able to return to Fort Lewis College (FLC) once she becomes more established, and that she would be able to grow spiritu-ally. We praise God for how He continues to grow the seeds that we have the privilege of sowing!

We just finished our annual Master Plan Ministries’ (MPM) Directors & Staff Conferences. We celebrat-ed MPM’s founders’ (Russ & Linda Akins) 50 years of ministry at the conference. They are both still going strong in serving the Lord and are a big encouragement to us all! The conferences were a refreshing time to prepare for the upcoming school year, connect with God & our coworkers, receive training, and be reminded of our vision and goal to prepare others to reach & influence the world for Christ. We were reminded of Mark 8:34-35

“Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he [Jesus] said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.”

Sometimes we find ourselves trying to “hang on to” our lives by living for ourselves and our own plea-sures. Though this might satisfy temporarily, following Christ is much more fulfilling both now and eternally. It takes intentional perseverance to keep our eyes on what really matters.

We are excited for many things this upcoming year, including the 4 student leaders that are eager to step up and help us more this year: Daniel, Michael, Marin, and Martha. This month we all talked and they are excited to reach other FLC students for the Lord this year!

Praise & Prayer: I thank God for many of your condolences in losing my grandparents, and praise God for provid-ing a place for us to rent last week! Please pray for us as we prepare for the school year, meet new students, and for the returning students to have a heart to follow Christ. Also, for us to have a continuing deep foundation on God and His Word and to follow Christ in every area.Thank you!

*Isolated Peoples of the Amazon Basin-“After two days of trying to flush out the debris, the existing well was determined to be unusable without a major finan-cial investment. As the saying goes, ‘agua es la vida’ (water is life). Pray for wisdom in knowing whether to invest more time and resources in the current well or else to dig another one. All agriculture projects are at a standstill until we have access to water. These agricul-tural projects will allow the indigenous missionaries to be self-sustaining and send more missionaries out to the peoples of the Amazon basin.”

*Bangladesh-When it rains, it pours. In Bangladesh, the monsoon season takes place from June to October, a time when 80 percent of the country’s rainfall occurs. During this season, many low-lying areas are flooded, homes are lost, landslides occur, and crops are destroyed due to the amount of precipitation. In 2017, Bangladesh experienced the worst flooding it had seen in 200 years. Each year, Bangladeshi pastors and evangelists are mo-bilized to provide flood relief in the form of food, water purification tablets, basic medical supplies, and cloth-ing. Please pray that through this disaster, believers will be bold to share the gospel, churches will be planted, and lives will be saved.
