Dear Parents and Carers, EDUCATION WEEK AT ASHTONFIELD Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Education Week awards night. Not only did it showcase the talent of our students but it also highlighted the wonderful work of our teachers, non teaching staff, community members and school programs across the region. Congratulations to the following members of our school community for their awards:
Caitlyn O’Brien (Student award) - Commitment and application to all aspects of
school at Ashtonfield PS
Mr Phil Cliff (Excellence in Teaching Award) - Commitment to Aboriginal education
across the school and the region.
Melinda Oke (Non Teaching Award) - Consistently displaying professionalism and
proficiency and ‘going above and beyond’ at school.
Lindy Tuck (Community Member Award) - Commitment to Ashtonfield Public
School
Cool Kids Program (School Achievement Award) - A social skills program aimed at
equipping students with the strategies and skills to minimise worries and anxieties, accepted by Mrs Melissa McMellon.
Today we celebrated Education Week at Ashtonfield with classroom visits and activities, a show case of our talented musicians, dancers and singers in the hall and a menu of foods from across the world - pizzas, sushi, Indian foods, nachos and a sausage sizzle. Thank you to the many parents, friends and family members who joined us for the day, despite the wet weather. SPORTING SUCCESS Our cricket team was successful in the Reg Kelly Shield against Paterson Public School. The boys basketball team won their second game at the Maitland Gala day against Woodberry Pubic School. The girls team won the Maitland Gala day and will now compete against the winning Newcastle team in the hope of progressing to the NSW finals day. ZONE ATHLETICS Zone Athletics has been postponed until next Friday. The council has closed the grounds due to the wet weather. P&C MOVIE FUNDRAISER NIGHT will be held at Maitland Reading Cinema on Thursday, 11th August, starting at 6pm for raffles and refreshments. Tickets cost $20 each and are available to purchase from the Uniform Shop and the school office.
Have a happy week, Deb and Staff.
