Houston Texans Stats Challenge
September 11 was an exciting day on our campus for our 6th graders when
Ryan Griffin and the Texans cheerleaders helped them kickoff the Houston
Texans Stats Challenge presented by Schlumberger. Many thanks to Mr. Sam
Jow for making this pep rally a huge success!

Read It Forward
This year’s Read It Forward (RIF) reading campaign is well under way! Stu-
dents are encouraged to read either A Night Divided or The False Prince by
New York Times best selling author Jennifer A. Nielsen. If you are not familiar
with this reading program, here is the scoop:
Mrs. Alidon met with the reading classes to launch the program and gave
away copies of both titles to each class. After students finish reading these
books, they will return it to the library and sign up to meet the author at school on October 16.
If students did not receive a copy, then they can stop by the library to place their names on a
waiting list. The library staff will contact the students when the books are available. We want
to have lots of students reading these great stories! If you have any questions, please contact
the school librarian, Mrs. Alidon.
Orchestra Fundraiser
The Camerata Orchestra has been selected to perform at the Midwest Clinic in Chica-
go this December. This orchestra was one of only 3 junior high orchestras in the na-
tion to receive this honor and the only junior high orchestra from Texas.
The Camerata orchestra is comprised of 29 of the most advanced orchestra students
at McMeans. They are currently working to raise funds for their trip to Chicago. One
of their fundraisers is asking for donations through a company called Snap Raise.
This campaign will continue for the month of September. If you would like to make a
contribution, please click on the link posted below. Thank you in advance for your
consideration!

Katy Parent Focus Group
Parent engagement plays an essential role in the success of our students. As such, this academic school year we
are examining our existing campus- and district-level parent engagement opportunities. It’s important that oppor-
tunities are available to all parents and guardians who wish to be involved in our schools, but at times may be
unable to due to work or other conflicts.
You will receive, if you have not already, a survey asking for your feedback on engagement opportunities on your
child’s campus and across the district. As we explore ways to enhance our current parent and community en-
gagement model, we are requesting small groups of parents/guardians to participate in a follow-up focus group
discussion to provide us with additional insight and guidance regarding the opportunities they are looking for in
our schools.
Parent Focus Group Meeting Date*: October 11, 2018
Meeting Time: 6:30-8:30 pm
Meeting Location: Memorial Parkway Jr. High
*Dinner and child care will be provided at the meeting.
It would be greatly appreciated if you would respond to Mr. Guzzetta’s office by Tuesday, September 18, with your
intent to attend. You may contact Sherry Parker via email to [email protected] to RSVP.
We look forward to your participation.
