AKC has come out with its list of most popular breeds in the United States for 2016. For the 26th consecutive year, the beloved Labrador Retriever takes the number one spot. Ho hum. The only changes in rank in the top 10 spots from 2015 to 2016 were the Poodle which moved up from 8th to 7th, the Rottweiler went from 9th to 8th, and the Yorkshire Terrier plummeted from 7th to 9th. The always loveable Bulldog remains at #4 followed by its stalwart cousin the Frenchie at #6. That's for all of the United States.

But in LA it's a different story:

Bulldog Reigns Supreme Once Again in Los AngelesStaff Writers | March 21, 2017

Once again, the Bulldog took Los Angeles’s top spot in the 2016 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Las Vegas and San Diego.

After a down year, the Labrador Retriever made a jump from a tie in 4th with the Golden Retrievers and made the 3rd spot their own in 2016.

“The Bulldog and its cousin, the French Bulldog, remain the top two most popular breeds in Los Angeles.” said AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo. “As the rest of the country catches up, Los Angeles has been ahead of the Bulldog trend for several years now.”

It takes a lot of work from a lot of people to put on a dog show and our club is lucky to have an exceptional Show Chair to lead the effort. Here is a message from our Show Chair, Connie Booker:

……….in the Valley of the Sun

I Wish to Thank Our Most Generous and Hardworking Members and Friends. Especially…..

• The Kachina Kennel Club for their generosity and cooperation with our 2017 Specialty Shows.

• Richard Seeno / PicaloSW for his excellent endeavors on behalf of PBC with show support. He goes the extra mile in producing the very best!

• Show Secretary and Advertising Chair, Deborah Lockett did a super job, especially as a ‘first time’ Show Secretary. She is also always there to assist in any way she can to help PBC shine.

• The PBC Trophy & Awards Committee: Mary Lou Allred, Gini Acton, Rosemary Dorson and Judy Jenkin. These ladies created, produced and donated the trophies, their talent and time for our 2017 Shows.

• Ways and Means: Deb Lewis is always there to help raise needed funds for PBC. She had a great raffle table set up that included a huge Wine Basket raffle. What a sales person she is!

• Grounds Crew: Again – Deb Lewis wore another important hat for this show and was at the grounds bright and early with our show equipment ready to set up the ring – even before the Onofrio Supt. arrived to set up the show rings for Kachina Kennel Club. A huge thanks to Jerry Adler for allowing us to park the Club trailer on his property and doing a major clean out and reorganization of the equipment!

• Exhibitors Luncheon: Sharon Treat, our resident ‘hostess with the mostest’ and assisted by Kathy Stubbs was set up and ready to go with a tasty lunch for our exhibitors and friends.

• Judge’s Hospitality: Thanks to Dr. Jack Brown and Susan Klecka for the goody bags for our judges. Susan also created a beautiful antique post card collage from the Taurustrail Collection for Sweepstakes Judge, Amanda Ashley.

• Show Treasurer: Kim Zavesky has been our Club Treasurer for many years and we thank her for carrying on through this show. With her expertise in finance, she has produced

our budgets and show analysis and she has been ‘simply the best’!!

• Steward: Thanks to Jeanne Zalud for keeping the ring running smoothly and on time. Good stewards are a blessing to any dog show.

• Photographer and Graphics: Sandra Martinez is a great friend for PBC with her most welcome assistance with pre show graphics and advertising set up plus great pics for our shows

• Judge’s Gifts: Kathy Stubbs, Connie Booker and Susan Klecka for their donations of gifts, time and talent.

• Friends of The Phoenix Bulldog Club: Ellen Howard, Toni & Dan Powers, Bulldog Club of Northern California, Melody Combs-Smith, Carmen Slomke. Thank you to these folks with their generous donations that helped PBC through another set of specialty shows.

• More Than Patient Husband: Phil Booker – a good man that takes a lot of deep breaths putting up with an old broad’s commitments!

Without all of your care and support, this two months early specialty show would not have happened. I’m honored to work with all of you.

Thank You, Connie Booker, Show Chair

Happy Easter!
