Kaizen Activity: Value Addition in Surgico-60D HFTeam Member:Ramakant S. Navele(Emp ID: 40004004)

Description of Waste or ProblemThink of the 7 Wastes (TIM WOOD)- Extra material going with product - Additional activity for bunching unused cables- More weight so more handling efforts- More procurement cost- More processing time at shop

Action to be Taken1. Create PPS for 12-core Cable & order the part in co-

ordination with the sourcing team.2. Verify the part with Surgico-60DHF system for its

reliability & release relevant test reports & verification results

3. Release the DMR & update the BOM for the operations. Extend it in SAP.

Result / Benefits (Metric Improvements in terms of P,S,Q,D,C,C)- No extra material with product- Elimination of bunching activity for 11 no. of unused cores- Lesser weight & handling efforts- Reduction in procurement cost- Saving in processing time at shop

Location / Area of Improvement Description:HIC, Philips, PuneCurrently in Surgico-60DHF product, the MVS to C-Stand cable is 24-core, out of which only 11-cores are used. The rest 13-cores are un-used & can be eliminated by using a 11-core cable instead of the 24-core cable.

Before AfterKaizen Activity

Surgico-60D HF System 24-Core Cable to be changed to 12-Core Cable

General Description of the improvement: The MVS to C-Stand Cable (i.e. 24-core Round Cable) for Surgico-60DHF product shall be changed to a 12-core cable, keeping one as stnadalone core. Doing so the cable outer diameter will be reduced, the standalone cable can be used in case of failure of one core. Current Surgcio sales is 200 unit per Annum & the cable qty. Per unit is 5 mtrs per unit ie. 1000 mtrs per annum. The current price INR 240/- per mtr. Expected cost INR 190/- per mtr. Thus saving INR 50K in the procuement cost per annum. For Surgico product, this is a good saving.

24-Core Cable is fixed at C-Stand side & is detachable at MVS end through a connector.

Existing PPS Proposed PPS

PPS for 24-Core Cable PPS for 12-Core

Cable

The cable will be developed from the existing supplier. As the no. of cores are reduced in the proposed cable, the cable’s overall thickness will be reduced & also a good saving in its procurement cost.
