Have you ever noticed that most of the best paranormal investigations use a whole vari‐ety of hi‐tec electronic equipment to locate and ‘prove’ the existence of ghosts? Flight cases full of EM detectors, cameras, field meter and so forth, surely this must produce reputable and reliable evidence...right? Well, no, it does not, but it sure as Hell looks the part and makes the supposed investigators feel important. The truth is that the phe‐nomenon has no consensus, so any readings or images are meaningless. Another unpal‐atable truth is that, except in a general sense, the investigators have no idea what the readings mean. The best tools or any investigation are your own senses, the fancy hard‐ware means nothing, T.A.P.S. et all take note! Unless, of course you know differently…if you do please feel free to get in touch.

Part of the myth and legend which has accompanied Ufology for decades is that certain people who’ve immersed themselves in the work, and perhaps gotten too close to the truth, or a signifi-cant truth about UFOs, have been murdered to keep them quiet.

These allegations have attached themselves equally to civilian in-vestigators as well as to specific individuals in government...

Such claims are usually difficult if not im‐possible to prove beyond a reasonable doubt and are often heavily influenced by the beliefs or agendas of the researchers making the claims. I don’t consider myself a conspiracist, but my studies have shown me that history is littered with conspiracies. And while the term itself has become some‐thing of a buzz‐word for loopy or paranoid in contemporary society, Webster defines the word conspiracy simply as “a secret plan,” which is hardly some rare or complex phenomenon. Speaking for myself, I remain unconvinced that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of President Kennedy and resent the stock rationale regularly put forward by proponents of the lone gunman theory, that when an important or signifi‐cant person dies under questionable cir‐cumstances, or in some cases of seemingly natural causes, a certain segment of the public will always refuse to accept it as such. They – me in this case – have a deep need to believe that the departed could not possibly have died of natural causes, or in a freak accident, or at the hands of a single, mentally unstable personality. There is in fact real wisdom attached to this point of view, but there are exceptions that prove the rule as well. Lee Harvey Oswald’s killer, Jack Ruby, died of cancer in a Dallas jail while awaiting trial on murder charges. While people die of cancer every day, it would not surprise me to learn that Ruby’s cancer had been, well, ‘introduced’ into his system to shut him up for good. That’s what I believe, but I can’t prove it.

I know people who feel that taking literally any conspiracy seriously is akin to believing in the tooth fairy. This kind of overly sim‐plistic thinking is not just ignorant, it is in‐sulting and can even be dangerous. Even President Bush has used the term “conspiracy theory” to belittle or dismiss notions that everything has not been com‐pletely on the up and up in his administra‐tion. At the same time there are those of us who’ve become so accustomed to our gov‐ernment lying to or deceiving us that we (understandably) suspect them of complic‐ity anytime history looks at us cross‐eyed. The truth likely lies somewhere between these two extremes. Today we’re going to take a look at the lives, and deaths, of eleven people, nine of them men, two of them women, who made significant contri‐butions to Ufology or were otherwise seri‐ously involved with the subject.

Some of these studies are fairly brief, oth‐ers more in depth and the final one particu‐larly so. I’ve done my best to remain as objective as possible in each case, but some of these profiles are noticeably more per‐sonal than others. I met one of these indi‐viduals years ago, corresponded briefly with another, and considered four of them

friends, three of them good friends. The information in this paper has been drawn from thirty six different print sources, some supporting Internet research, and personal knowledge of four of the indi‐viduals, and of the circumstances sur‐rounding their deaths. To help us under‐stand why these eleven might have been targeted for extinction, and to better al‐low you to come to your own best conclu‐sions, its important to have some appre‐ciation for the lives they lived and the contributions they made. Our first subject was a popular UFO writer of the nineteen fifties, Morris Ketchum Jessup, better known as M.K. Jessup.

Its alleged that he was murdered and that the murder was made to appear as a sui‐cide, or that he was brainwashed into taking his own life, the reason being that he was getting too close to the truth about UFOs. Jessup’s books on the sub‐ject, The Case For the UFO, The Expanding Case For the UFO, UFOs and the Bible are considered classics and are still among the most readable and thoughtful contribu‐tions to the otherwise often simplistic, mystical or paranoid flying saucer litera‐ture of the era. The Case For the UFO be‐came a national best‐seller in 1955 and remains one the most comprehensive and rational collection of case studies of the time. Dr. Jessup’s credits were outstanding and varied. He began his career as an instruc‐tor in astronomy and mathematics at Drake University and the University of Michigan, where he also studied for and received his Doctorate in Astrophysics. The university then hired him to supervise the building and operation of the South‐ern Hemisphere’s (then) largest refracting telescope. Jessup’s passion for and schol‐arship in the twin fields of archeology and anthropology led him to carry out

significant independent research at Maya and Incan ruins in Central America and Peru, then to become an acknowledged expert on the megalithic stone‐works of Peru, Easter Island and Syria, among other locations. He then became interested in the subject of UFOs.

In 1956 Jessup was preparing to travel to Mexico to survey meteorite craters, and to continue his research into ancient extrater‐restrial visitations, but upon learning that this author of UFO books was to be part of the expedition, the University of Michigan, the project’s main sponsor, withdrew it’s support and the venture quickly died. Aware that his UFO related writing that year would bring in very little income, Jes‐sup decided to publish his own books and sell them through the mail. But nothing came of this plan and he did not publish anymore books. Two years later the writer separated from his wife and moved from Florida back to his home state of Indiana were he worked as an editor and pursued his growing interest in psychic phenomena. On an October 1958 visit to New York City he met with zoologist Ivan Sanderson, author of Invisible Residents and Uninvited Visitors, among other titles. Sanderson found him in a gloomy state. Jessup com‐plained that a series of strange events which he hesitated to discuss had pulled him “into a complete world of unreal‐ity” (Sanderson, 1968). During this time the two manuscripts which Jessup sent to his publisher were rejected as not being up to par.

The writer left New York soon after, but apparently did not return to Indiana. Two weeks later when his publisher tried to contact him, he was nowhere to be found. The following month he was located in Florida where he explained he was recov‐ering from a serious auto accident. Jes‐sup’s depression continued to deepen and in April 1959 he wrote a letter to his friend, the radio host Long John Nebel. Sanderson characterized it as a “straight suicide note.” On April 20 the fifty nine year old Jessup drove from his Florida home to a quiet spot in nearby Dade County Park where he made good on the contents of the note, specifically, by wiring a hose to the exhaust pipe of his car and feeding the other end through a small opening in the window. He died of carbon‐monoxide poi‐soning not long after being found at about 6:30 that evening. I’d heard years ago that there were things about this suicide that didn’t add up. For example, that the space above the car window admitting the hose had been stuffed with wet rags to keep the carbon‐monoxide in, and that subsequent investi‐gation found no container in the car that could have held the water necessary to wet the rags. I have not been able to

confirm this allegation through any source. Richard Ogden, a UFO researcher in Seattle, claimed the suicide was a ‘frame up’ and that Jessup had been sent a tape recording which contained ‘self‐destructive instruc‐tions,’ but this was never substantiated either. In fact there was no autopsy, con‐trary to Florida state law, but not much else I’ve been able to establish as non‐standard or menacing. Jessup’s close friend John P. Bessor main‐tained that Jessup was very disappointed and discouraged over loosing his battle to make UFOs respectable among scientists. Ivan Sanderson’s wife Sabina saw the sui‐cide note which Jessup had sent to her husband and recalled that it “makes it clear that he chose suicide as the only possible alternative to an insupportable future, and did so after careful consideration. … Cer‐tainly the mysterious ‘they’ had nothing to do with it.” I have to agree with Sabina Sanderson. Given everything I’ve learned about Morris Jessup’s life and the circum‐stances which led to his free fall into pro‐found depression, I have to conclude that this pioneering UFO author and investigator was not killed by anyone other than him‐self.

Dorothy Kilgallen Dorothy Kilgallen was an extremely well‐connected media personality and highly syndicated newspaper columnist from the nineteen forties through the mid sixties. While best known to millions of Americans as a long‐time panelist on the TV show “What’s My Line?,” she was also a serious investigative reporter who maintained a highly critical attitude toward the official explanations offered for both the JFK assas‐sination and for UFOs. Kilgallen was found dead in her bed in 1965 and many still feel that she was murdered because of what she might reveal about one or both of these explosive subjects.

For years Kilgallen’s Journal American column, “Voice of Broadway,” alternated between celebrity gossip, hard news and exclusives. In May 1947, a month before Kenneth Arnold’s sighting and about six weeks prior to Roswell, she reported the crash of an unidentified flying object near Spitsbergen, Norway in early 1952. Ra‐tional concern that the wreck might repre‐sent advanced Russian technology was undercut by the Norwegian Air Force Colonel who chaired the Board of Inquiry and is alleged to have said, “… Some time ago a misunderstanding was caused by saying that the disc probably was of Soviet origin. It has – this we wish to state em‐phatically – not been built by any country on earth. The materials used in its con‐struction are completely unknown to all experts having participated in the investi‐gation."

Eight years later Kilgallen published an article entitled “’Flying Saucer’ Wreckage Assures Britons of Reality.” It appeared on May 23, 1955 in London’s International News Service and was then picked up by numerous papers, including The Los Ange‐les Examiner. To quote: “I can report to‐day on a story which is positively spooky, not to mention chilling. British scientists and airmen, after examining the wreckage of one mysterious flying ship, are con‐vinced these strange aerial objects are not optical illusions, but are flying saucers which originate on another planet. The source of my information is a British offi‐cial of cabinet rank who prefers to remain unidentified. ‘We believe, on the basis of our inquiry thus far, that the saucers were staffed by small men – probably under four feet tall. Its frightening, but there’s no denying the flying saucers come from another planet.’ The official quoted scien‐tists as saying a flying ship of this type could not possibly have been constructed on Earth. The British government, I learned, is withholding an official report on the ‘flying saucer’ examination at the time, possibly because it does not wish to frighten the public.” While Kilgallen never made her source of this extraordinary news story public, key investigators have speculated that the account originated with Lord Mountbat‐ten. One of them was Gordon Creighton, a former diplomat and British Army intelli‐gence officer. He was also editor of Brit‐ain’s Flying Saucer Review. After reading her column, Creighton “…wrote to Doro‐thy Kilgellen at once, seeking further in‐formation, but never got a reply from her, and she died a few years later. We may take it as certain that she had been effec‐tively removed.” Additional support for this account can be deduced from a state‐ment issued at about this time by Britain’s Air Chief Marshall Lord Dowding who said in part, “I am convinced that there objects

do exist and that they are not manufac‐tured by any nation on Earth.” While no investigator has been able to confirm the authenticity or source of Kilgallen’s pub‐lished account, Timothy Good writes in Above Top Secret, “Why should Dorothy Kilgallen risk her reputation as one of the USA’s star journalists by propagating an untrue story? … To the best of my knowl‐edge (she) never denied the story. Further‐more, a number of similar stories from reliable sources have surfaced over the years, not all of which can be discounted, however absurd they may sound.” I had hesitated to bring Marilyn Monroe into this story for obvious reasons, I mean, really. But given the well documented friendship between the actress and the columnist, and the prevalence of this ac‐count in the literature, I could not ignore it. It stems from a CIA document of at least questionable provenance which related a conversation recorded via phone tap be‐tween Kilgallen and her close friend and Hollywood insider Howard Rothberg, who at one point states that Marilyn ‘had se‐crets to tell,’ one of which was that the president had confided to his then‐lover that he’d visited “a secret air base to in‐spect things from outer space,” the extra‐terrestrial implication being obvious. Kil‐gallen responded that she’d heard in the mid nineteen fifties that there was a secret effort by the US and the UK governments to identify the origins of a crashed craft in New Mexico. Again, while this document has not been authenticated to my satisfac‐tion, it did bear the date August 3, 1962, which would have been three days before Miss Monroe’s death. Following the assassination of President Kennedy, Kilgallen was one of the few national news reporters not to go along with the lone gunman theory, and, to the best of my knowledge, the only one to interview Lee Harvey Oswald’s killer, Jack Ruby. This interview and other factors convinced the reporter that the president’s killing was the result of a conspiracy about which she laid out her thoughts in a series of columns, even publishing the text of Ruby’s classified testimony before the Warren Commission. Unfortunately she was very public about the fact she was saving her best material for a book – one that was never written. On November 8, 1965 Dorothy Kilgallen was found dead in her bed with a book propped up in her lap. It was known however that she had al‐ready finished reading the book. More, her reading glasses, which would have been necessary to read the book, were never found. Kilgallen’s hairdresser, who was also a close friend and confidant, pointed out that she was wearing a blouse over her nightgown which she would never have done. She was also found wearing her false eyelashes which she always took off before

going to bed. And she was not found in her normal bedroom; she was in the master bedroom which she had not slept in for years. Additionally, Mark Lane, the pioneer‐ing JFK assassination researcher who wrote Plausible Denial, also believed she had been murdered and that the CIA might have been involved. Not surprisingly, the extensive file she had built on the incriminating aspects of the Kennedy assassination was missing from her files and never found. Personally, I’m convinced that Miss Kilgallen was in fact murdered, but more likely for what she intended to publish about the assassination rather than her knowledge of or interest in UFOs, though who can say for sure. By the way, the most knowledgeable investigator on this story that I know is my friend and colleague Nick Redfern. Dr. James E. McDonald Dr. James E. McDonald was an atmospheric physicist of great intelligence who had the courage to attempt bringing the subject of UFOs to the serious attention of both the American public and establishment science, much to the detriment of both his profes‐sional and personal life. His lectures and writings on UFOs ring with passion, intelli‐gence and anger and are still very much worth reading. Its alleged that this member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Meteorological Society and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics was mur‐dered, and that his murder was made to look like suicide.

James McDonald was born in Minnesota in 1920, earned a B.A. at the University of Omaha, an M.S. from M.I.T., and his Ph.D. at Iowa State University. McDonald’s inves‐tigative specialty was cloud physics, but a wide ranging curiosity led him into other areas of scientific study as well. On a drive through Arizona in January 1954 he had a UFO sighting with three friends.

Mc Donald reported the sighting to the Air Force and searched for a conventional explanation of what the four had seen, but could find none. The event was not an earth‐shaking one for him, but it did add the subject to his list of interests. He be‐gan an investigation of sightings in Arizona in 1958 and quietly became affiliated with the now defunct National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) that same year. As he became more in‐volved in the field, he grew to feel that neither the Air Force’s Project Blue Book nor the scientific community were paying proper attention to the phenomenon. His curiosity grew as a result of the 1966 Michigan sightings which made him all the more interested in conducting his own UFO study. As a result he applied for and secured a small grant from the Office of Naval Research to review the Blue Book material kept at Wright‐Patterson AFB in Ohio. The ONI felt that certain kinds of clouds might account for some UFO re‐ports and radar trackings, and being a cloud expert, McDonald was a logical choice for this effort. During his visit to the base he was able to read the CIA’s 1952 Robertson Panel report and was astonished to learn that their efforts were being directed toward a cover‐up and debunking effort. A request for a photo‐copy was denied by the agency which informed him that it had been reclassified shortly after he’d read it. While the reclas‐sification proved to be temporary, his Wright‐Patterson research established that the Air Force’s UFO investigation was half‐hearted at best. Now increasingly convinced that legiti‐mate UFO sightings were evidence of extraterrestrial visits, Dr. McDonald met with Blue Book consultant Dr. J. Allen Hynek that summer whom he attacked for continuing to tow the official line. Hynek explained that he’d grown to feel much the same as McDonald and was about to reverse his public position, but McDonald chided him for not having done so in 1953. Hynek associate Jacques Vallee was impressed with the newcomer’s resolve and later wrote that “it is clear that an entire era has come to an end. This man has many contacts, many ideas, and he is afraid of nothing.” From this point on, almost all of McDonald’s professional efforts were devoted to UFO investiga‐tions and to convince scientists, politi‐cians, journalists and other opinion mak‐ers of the seriousness of the subject. Shortly thereafter James McDonald went public with his extraterrestrial hypothesis. By this time the Air Force had identified the scientist as an enemy and an internal memo issued at about this time discussed the need to “fireproof” him; Air Force slang for discrediting someone.

His one man crusade included the inter‐viewing of hundreds of UFO witnesses, continued research on more classic cases and lectures to the American Meteorologi‐cal Society and as many other scientific and professional associations as he could get invitations from. He wrote brilliant criticisms of Blue Book’s failings and of Harvard’s UFO debunking astronomer Don‐ald K. Menzel. In 1967 he was even invited to speak before the UN’s Outer Space Af‐fairs Group by Secretary General U Thant. The scientist’s criticism of Dr. Edward U. Condon, outspoken skeptic and Director University of Colorado’s ongoing UFO study succeeded primarily in making the academics furious with him for exposing their highly flawed scientific methodology. In 1968 McDonald joined Hynek, Carl Sa‐gan and other scientists in addressing the House Science and Astronautics Commit‐tee. His particularly blunt, no‐nonsense comments read in part, “(My) position is that UFOs are entirely real and we do not know what they are, because we’ve laughed them out of court. The possibility that they are extraterrestrial devices, that we are dealing with surveillance from some advanced technology, is a possibility I take very seriously.” But it was Menzel who regularly received McDonald’s harshest criticisms, even call‐ing into question the astronomer’s compe‐tence. His remarks before the American Society of Newspaper Publishers that year included this remark about the astrono‐mer, “…when it comes to analyzing UFO reports, he seems to calmly cast aside well‐known principles almost with abandon, in an all‐out effort to be sure that no UFO report survives his attack.” And attack Menzel did at every opportunity, and with as much vengeance as Edward Condon who’d grown to hate McDonald. They were soon joined by upcoming de‐bunker Phil Klass whose knowledge of atmospheric physics was dwarfed by the scientist’s. Klass soon abandoned his ball lightening and plasma UFO theories for the many and varied accusations of hoax that would become a career hallmark of his skewed methodology. But Klass, an editor and writer for Aviation Week magazine, was nothing if not tenacious. He struck back in increasingly effective ways, peti‐tioning the Navy’s Office of Intelligence, which had given McDonald another small grant to pursue research in Australia, to drop their support for what many consid‐ered crackpot research. The ONI did with‐draw the grant and Klass’s attacks caused McDonald to suffer additional embarrass‐ment and lost support through a series of broadsides which questioned his logic, knowledge and even honesty. Each new attack served to erode his credibility fur‐ther. McDonald continued his one man

crusade throughout 1969 and seventy, but it was not difficult for those close to him to see that he was paying an increasingly high price for his efforts. He had isolated himself from his more conservative colleagues and his opinions about UFOs were now being used against him more and more effec‐tively. In March 1971 his expertise in cloud and atmospheric physics resulted in a re‐quest to testify before the House Commit‐tee on Appropriations. The subject was the proposed production of a supersonic trans‐port, or SST (commercially realized some years later as the Concorde), and the poten‐tial level of harm that its exhaust repre‐sented to the atmosphere. McDonald testi‐fied insightfully for two days, but congress‐men who did not understand the science involved, or just disagreed with him, re‐sponded with pure ridicule. After all, why should they believe anything this physicist said? Didn’t he believe that “there are little green men flying around the sky”? Now nationally humiliated, McDonald returned home to a marriage that was quickly disin‐tegrating, and to an academic community that wanted no part of him. His testimony before the House Committee on Appropria‐tions would be his last public appearance. In fact, his singular attention to UFOs had put terrific stress on his marriage, and Betsy McDonald was feeling increasingly ne‐glected. She genuinely appreciated that the SST controversy had only increased her husband’s state of depression, and as a result was willing to wait until a better time to discuss their deteriorating relationship. But McDonald insisted that they do so upon his return. The fact was that Betsy had be‐come involved with another man and wanted a divorce. McDonald more than appreciated the situation which he had set in motion, but it was too late for the couple to reconcile their differences and his de‐pression became full blown. Almost imme‐diately he began to work out a plan for suicide, but not without considering the financial security of his family, this in the form of the value of his personal papers and extensive archive.

He decided that he would take his life on March 26, but the date came and went as he continued to organize his files and com‐plete one final paper. However, early on the morning of on April 9, he found himself alone in the house, composed a brief note to Betsy, then shot himself in the head with his handgun. But the bullet missed his brain and all but destroyed his optic nerve. Now blind, his was briefly committed to the psy‐chiatric ward of Tucson’s Veteran’s Admini‐stration Medical Center. Betsy and their daughters rallied to his side to help him adjust to his blindness; she putting her plans for divorce on hold as well.

of life and work at the Institute for Atmos‐pheric Physics, even at times with real enthusiasm. A minimal amount of vision had returned too, but his wife was not fooled, and grew increasingly concerned that he was working hard to fool those around him and still intent on ending his life. Time proved her to be correct. On Tuesday June 13, he left the Institute on his own and hailed a cab, asking the driver to take him to a pawn shop in town. With just enough vision returned to pose as a seemingly sighted man, he purchased a used Spanish 38. caliber revolver and some ammunition, then asked the cabbie to drive him to an isolated intersection in the desert. From here he apparently made his way on foot to a bridge that was about a mile from the intersection. Somewhere between eight and ten hours later, a fam‐ily out hiking near Tucson came upon his body under the bridge. The 38. was found to the left of his head, a brief suicide note in his pocket.

Speculation that the scientist’s death might have been the result of foul play was immediate within a segment of the UFO research community. I think that Dr. McDonald was driven to suicide by the collective forces arrayed against him. Perhaps in a more perfect world the likes of Condon, Menzel and Klass might have been indictable as co‐conspirators in his death, but all the facts point to McDonald himself as the man who pulled the trigger. UFO Mysteries – the Legendary Marconi Systems Alien

One of the more mysterious UFO cases out there stems from the British defense contractor Marconi Systems, now known as BAE Systems. There is very little known about this case, which is one of the reasons we wanted to write about it. Technically, this is more of an alien sighting than a UFO case, but it falls within the purview of our investigation.

Marconi Systems made the headlines in the 1980s as being one of the major players in the Star Wars military project (United States Strategic Defense Initiative). The company also made tabloid news over the course of many years when no less than 25 of their high ranking scientists either committed suicide or died in extremely violent and mysterious circumstances. The families of several of these ‘accidents’ maintain to this day that foul play was involved. One such accident involved a Marconi employee tying a nylon rope around his neck, attaching it to a tree and then driving off quickly so that he was decapitated. You can find the full list of these deaths online, some with more detail than others.

It bears repeating that during the 1980s Marconi Sys‐tems was one of the premiere defense contracting firms in the world and was working on Top Secret military projects. Highly, highly classified documents were inside the building. Our case supposedly involves a security guard–we don’t know his name, again details are scarce–who in 1976 worked the night duty shift. Some accounts claim he had his German Shepard security dog with him. In any event, the story goes (recounted by Hilary Porter who actually worked there in the 70s) that the security guard saw a blueish light emanating from under the door of a classified docu‐ments office. Upon entering the room, the security guard observed a humanoid alien perched over a drawer of files wearing a headlight type of device. The security guard told friends that the alien waved his hand and disappeared into a cloud of light.

Afterwards, the man was understandably freaked out and ran to tell the other security guards on duty. These are the men who are supposedly the source of our only information, as the next day the security guard in question was taken away by military psychiatrists. We can’t find anything about this man online, nor anything about the other security guards to whom he reported his story and who supposedly never saw him again after the psychiatrists took him away. This story could very well be an extravagant urban legend arising out of a highly controversial defense company. At the very least, it underscores the need for a proper investigation of the deaths that occurred in the 80s. But perhaps there is something more to the incredible string of suicides and deaths. Hilary Porter, who worked at Marconi, claims she overheard one of the Director’s conversations in which he said, “If these beings can come and go in an establishment like this, with all of the security we have, what the hell can we do?”

This post is more of a plea for information. Does any‐one out there have more info related to the security guard who supposedly saw the alien? Keep your ear to the ground. This article is about my corporation’s signa‐ture artifact, a Celtic necklace about 2,300 years old, and the astounding experiences our staff and others have had with it over the past eight years. The ‘Celtic Collection Program’ is a non‐profit educational living history corpora‐tion, located in Georgia, America. Our mis‐sion statement is to facilitate a better un‐derstanding of ancient Celtic society, his‐tory and artwork from a multicultural per‐spective. We specialize in historical re‐search and feature educational presenta‐tions and living history models representing Native Americans, Hinduism, Celtic Christi‐anity and ancient Celtic society. The Celtic Collection Mod‐els come from different faiths and cultural orienta‐tion. We also exhibit 10 ancient collections consist‐ing of thousands of geo‐logical specimens and artifacts, but only one relic has caused more response than any of the others combined. Since we ob‐tained the necklace, some of our models, staff and I have noticed a pattern of strange activity associated with it, especially for those that either touch or wear it during photo shoots and at our shows. I bought the necklace in 2004 from the Sadigh Gallery Ancient Art in New York. It was excavated in Central Europe and is of exceptional rare beauty and historical im‐portance. It is believed to have been owned by a female druid. It is made out of bronze and was large enough to have been clearly visible in a large crowd. In the Sun’s reflec‐tion, it likely made a convincing impression. Its green color is called patina, a kind of tarnish that forms on the surface of bronze from being in the ground for a long period of time. Its chain is about 20 inches long consisting of 33 links to which are attached three in‐terconnected pendants. Two of the pen‐dants are circular and the third is a bell. Because its primary motif is an enhanced version of Celtic circle theology, the neck‐lace was likely a multipurpose religious item worn while performing at different kinds of ceremonies. Its features are feminine,

which suggests it was either made for a woman or used to invoke a particular female deity or both. Each link is different from the others in shape and size to em‐phasize the importance of the circle. Its numerical encoding portrays symbolism that likely did not come from the metal smith that made it. It is reasonable that a cleric personally designed the encoding details and then assigned it to a smith to make according to those specifications. The meaning of the necklace is to portray an enhanced version of the Celtic sacred number three; 33 links combined with three pendants equal the number nine, which is the most complete sequence in

Celtic sacred three theology. To the an‐cient Celts, the circle meant protection, veneration of ancestors and life’s compre‐hensive circle, which involved birth, death and reincarnation. The bell stood for pro‐tection and enlightenment. Ancient Celtic sacred bells were the forerunners of sa‐cred bells now used by Catholic priests during Mass. Legend states that St. Patrick once used a sacred bell to drive away evil. By today’s religious standards, the neck‐lace would have been regarded as impor‐tant by the Celts as a vestment, commun‐ion cup, Hoshen, Kittel or a cross. The necklace has attained several educa‐tional accolades in a short period of time. It has been special featured on WAGA‐TV Fox 5 Good Day Atlanta, CBS, a CNN affili‐ate station, GPB Georgia Gazette and on WXIA 11Alive News by Anchor Wes Sar‐ginson. It has been published in Celtic Heritage, and in 2006, Georgia’s Governor

Purdue held it during a special viewing of The Celtic Collection and was very im‐pressed with its beauty and antiquity. Just after the necklace arrived, the editor of a small historical publication wanted to feature special coverage about its discov‐ery. Paige McDaniel Vallee, our deputy CEO, then a founding model, was selected to represent its debut media appearance. A professional photographer conducted the photo shoot and several pictures were taken. All of our staff was behind the pho‐tographer and no one else was on the property. After a photo was sent in with the story and published, a remarkable image was noticed just above Paige’s

shoulder on the left of what appears to be a tall male dressed in black hold‐ing a tablet. At the time of the photo, we were all looking straight in the di‐rection where this image was standing, but we did not see anything. Erin Tompkins, a psychic and one of the investigators that recently examined the necklace, states the image is connected with the arti‐fact and has an ancient Celtic persona to it. A diverse mix of experi‐ences have been reported by several staff and others coming in contact with the

necklace, including getting chills, feeling stunned, experiencing a sense of awe and losing their balance. One model told me she felt that the artifact radiates with en‐ergy. Others report as soon as they touch it, start seeing images in their thoughts of ancient ceremonial and warfare scenes. Almost everyone says they feel an almost overwhelming sense of awe followed by feelings of calm, happiness, relief of stress and especially empowerment. These re‐ports are consistent with statements a few patrons have made after viewing the neck‐lace during an exhibition. In 2006, I was asked to teach a class on Celtic history at a parochial school. Part of the lecture involved a living history assign‐ment of having students walk around the room showing Celtic artifacts to their class‐mates. A young girl about age 14 volun‐teered to show the necklace. After putting it on, she acted stunned and just looked at

it without saying anything or moving. The other students did not react in the same manner to the artifacts they showed. The little girl proceeded to make her way around the classroom paying more atten‐tion to the artifact than the students. This was the first time I began to question whether something paranormal might be going on with this artifact. In 2009, one of the models came to my home for a magazine photo shoot, which involved her wearing different outfits and using several production props. The project took half a day to finish and had to be pho‐tographed at three public locations. One set of photos involved her holding the neck‐lace. After I handed it to her, she acted shocked for about 10 minutes and then her mood became very calm.

Early in August of this year, I took the neck‐lace to Angel Salter, a sensitive and seven year paranormal investigator, who stated that examining the artifact was her “Most memorable experience due to the intense emotion and energy I felt from this neck‐lace. I sensed a tremendous amount of energy that I have never felt before”. Angel also stated the necklace had been owned by a woman. Next, to obtain some objective feedback, I asked my friend Kim, who has no experience with my corporation, Celtic history or paranormal research to try on the necklace. She immediately extended her arms and said: “Just look at the goose bumps on both of my arms. This is causing me to feel very powerful. This necklace is full of energy”. After this incident, I decided to contact the Southeastern Institute of Paranormal Research in Atlanta and asked them to investigate the artifact. They gra‐ciously agreed to do so and I emailed them the debut image. On Friday, August 3, three Southeastern team members and newspa‐per editor Sherri Hammock arrived at my home.

Soon after they entered, Sherri noticed that her almost completely drained cell phone

had become fully charged. Investigators Denise Roffe, Diane Culpepper and psy‐chic Erin Tompkins observed that three of their fully charged video batteries were completely drained. Erin, who had not been informed about why the team was there, walked through the house and was asked to identify anything with a high energy level. I have thousands of geologi‐cal specimens and artifacts, including other sacred Celtic items. However, within a short time, Erin walked across the exhi‐bition room to a cabinet in which the necklace is kept, pointed to it and said that a high amount of energy was coming from that spot. After she held the neck‐lace for a while, she started to feel “Weak in her knees” and “Butterflies in her stom‐ach”. She handed it back to me stating she had better do so before becoming over‐whelmed from its energy.

The investigators then used two K2 me‐ters around the necklace, conducted an EVP session and videoed the event. Al‐though there were no EVP or video phe‐nomenon identified when the footage was later analyzed, both K2 meters registered a 2.5 when Sherri wore the necklace. Erin said she picked up on scenes of ancient woods, mounds camp fires and large gath‐erings of people. She said the necklace once had been valued as a sacred symbol and had been used by a woman. Each team member, including the editor, tried on the necklace. They all stated that wear‐ing it prompted feelings of awe, peace and calm. Denise told me she used com‐puter analysis on the photo and it appears to be genuine. Erin was then shown the image for the first time and she said she felt it was connected to the necklace.

We have carefully exhibited the necklace for many a year and it is very fragile due to its age. It has now been officially re‐tired to preserve its links and pendant attachments. Fortunately, it has not sus‐tained any accidental or other types of damage due transporting it from one cen‐ter to another or having models wear it during the shows. Although I am still skep‐tical about some of the details involved, there is no doubt about the number of reputable reports and documentation that we have collected. Over the past 8 years, we have had over 30 reports and experi‐ences of paranormal activity with the artifact. They are not coincidental or just the products of dramatic or overly worked imaginations. However, there have been no negative or harmful consequences to anyone after having made contact with it. Instead, most report feeling initially taken back with a strong sense of awe on some level followed by a state of calm, reduc‐tion of stress and empowerment. Perhaps this is our best indication of what the necklace may have been originally used to accomplish. I suspect it was worn while

performing healing ceremonies and pro‐vided hope, comfort and empowerment to many during wartime.

It was likely used by someone who was devoted to the tribe and invested long hours of service to ensure the well‐being of its members. I am informed that high levels of positive energy could indefinitely attach or imprint itself to an object used in this manner with so many individuals. This would explain the experiences we have encountered. There truly appears to be a pattern of unexplained phenomena and events associated with it. I cannot think of a better description that summarizes our diverse range of experiences than an ob‐servation Sherri made about it: “The neck‐lace has a powerful amount of residual energy. It feels as if all the elements are coming together within you as one, bring‐ing an awesome sense of not only peace but the energy to do what is determined to be done. After wearing it, I was left with a lingering feeling of welcome and joy."

Fact and fiction

With a few notable exceptions, science fiction’s portrayal of the future is overwhelmingly negative. Either robots are going to take over, or there’s going to be a nuclear holocaust, a massive natural disaster, invasion by hostile aliens, revolution by genetic mutants, or some kind of man‐made dystopian nightmare – where either freedom of thought or

basic comforts, or both, are but distant memories of a bygone age.

Personally, I would say that what this says about mankind’s psychology is clear: a sub‐conscious resignation to the possibility of a bleak future; something that we prefer to face primarily, if not exclusively, through fiction, because the idea of it as a reality is too horrifying. Arguably, the very essence of successful fiction is plausibility, so if we did not view these scenarios as possible, we would not create them as stories for our “entertainment”. In other words – we can see the mess the world’s in; we can see the barbarism of which mankind is capable; and then we put two and two together and see a potential future even grimmer than the grimmest vision of the present. But, safely wrapped up in the package of fiction – rather than religious prophecy or scientific prediction, it is easier for us to feel insulated from responsibility for it, and consequently feel little or no obligation to do anything to prevent these things from happening. In fact, that sinister presence throughout our lives known as “conditioning”, through the threat of the stick that is fear and the promise of the carrot that is pleasure, has tranquillized us into such a state of lethargy, apathy and reckless optimism – the “everything will be OK no matter what” philosophy – that we are to some extent mentally shielded from the impetus to bring about positive change upon our world. If this mental shield can be pierced – if there is a genuine recognition that some‐thing should be done – then the next hurdle is answering the question: “What can I do about it?” For many, this question is an‐swered before it has even been asked – with the rhetorically defeatist: “Well, what could I, one individual, hope to do about a big problem like that? Surely I couldn’t make any difference! No, there’s nothing I can do, I’m just an ordinary guy with prob‐lems of my own.” Such a reaction plays into the hands of the laziest, most selfish, comfort‐seeking aspect of our psyche – an aspect that we all pos‐sess. We are thus apparently exonerated from all responsibility for the future of our planet, and, in some cases, even empow‐ered into a brutal, self‐destructive hedon‐ism: “There’s nothing I can do to make the world a better place, so all I have to do is enjoy my own life to the full – caring about no one but myself.” This can result in an unhealthy obsession with personal happi‐ness, which leads to misery on a personal level, and, tragically, is sometimes even portrayed as being “spiritual”. This is the psychology of a planetary race in peril. A race where the evil few can manipulate the uncaring many with the ease that a whimsi‐cal child plays with a lifeless puppet. Of course not every piece of science fiction is negative – and not all of us fail to address

exist. It does not even have to be on the same plane of existence. The intelligences who were communicating with Dr. King are millions of years ahead of us; it is entirely logical that they should have moved on to a different type of experience cycle, be‐yond what we can readily appreciate. Thankfully, in part to progress in the field of theoretical physics, the concept of life “not as we know it”, and therefore poten‐tially extant but undetectable by our cur‐rent technology, has recently gained ground with the scientific community, notably thanks to Professor Lord Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal. Taking a step further, the idea that they would necessar‐ily choose to adopt a method of communi‐cation which is understood by modern science is presumptuous at best. We as a civilization have no experience of inter‐planetary communication, and therefore are in no position to judge how they would or should communicate with us. Being the brilliant and pragmatic beings that they are, they have chosen many different methods of communication, with a variety of individuals, throughout our history, and prehistory, on this planet. In Dr. King’s case, their primary communication method was mediumistic – through superconscious trance or conscious telepathy.

Their message is in essence a simple one – that we should devote our lives in selfless service to others, following the teachings of any true spiritual path, or any true spiri‐tual master. They do not demand our sub‐mission or devotion. They do not threaten us, or pander to what we might want to hear. They have our best interests at heart – because they have evolved beyond the petty selfishness that is commonplace upon Earth. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that they care far more about us than it would appear that we care about our‐selves. They certainly do more to help us than we do to help ourselves. And to those who maintain that they are hostile – I would simply say that the proof that they are not is as clear as the non‐reptilian nose on your face: if they were hostile, we would have been destroyed long ago. Ex‐traterrestrial beings with a technology so advanced as to be beyond our conception do not need to infiltrate world govern‐ments, royal bloodlines, or the world of finance – much less do deals with the mili‐tary – in order to take over our planet. All they need to do is press a button and life on Earth as we know it would be over. Even with our own technology we could annihilate the human race – so imagine how much more easily they could do the same.

problems beyond the narrow circle of our own lives. But to dream a dream of a better world is not easy to sustain – because, if we are to be a part of that better world, we ourselves, individually and globally, will have to change. Radically change. And change takes effort. We may think of our‐selves as “decent people”, minding our own business, leading modest, law‐abiding lives – but is this enough? Is this enough to change the world? To combat the rampant injustice, unfairness, violence and suffering that we see so frequently – if not in our own lives then at least in the media? So frequently in fact that we have become virtually numb to such things, regarding them as the norm – which in itself is a sad reflection of a desperate world. Life, Not as We Know It According to the spiritual teachings of my own chosen guru, Dr. George King (1919‐1997) – a master of yoga and space contac‐tee – we can all bring about positive change in the world. Anyone who is capable of reading this article is capable of making a huge difference. (For more information about Dr. King, see Issue 69 – ‘The Age of Aetherius’ by Richard Lawrence) Dr. King was contacted in 1954 by an intelli‐gence from a higher vibratory plane of the planet Venus – known as Aetherius. Hence the name of the organization he founded shortly thereafter: The Aetherius Society, a worldwide spiritual brotherhood based on the teachings of advanced masters from other planets in this Solar System.

It is not fashionable to talk about intelligent life in the Solar System – even within the relatively open‐minded world of ufology. Apparently scientists “know” that there is no intelligent life on the planets closest to Earth. But of course they know nothing of the sort. Life does not have to be like us to

Around 18 million years ago we inhabited a different planet – the planet Maldek. Hav‐ing achieved a more advanced technology than we enjoy on Earth today, life was fairly pleasant there, with much of the work be‐ing done by robots, so most people were content to lead lackadaisical, pleasure‐seeking lives, very similar to how we be‐have if ever we have the opportunity! It was only a minority who wanted something different; who craved material conquest, beyond their home planet. This resulted in the invention of a hydrogen bomb, far more powerful than ours today, which resulted in the total annihilation of the planet. All that remains of this planet now is the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Under the direction, guidance and care of the ancient minds of our wiser planetary neighbours, our discarnate souls were then reincarnated onto the planet Earth, where we have lived ever since – otherwise we would have been left homeless in space. Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Well, if that definition is correct, then there is no doubt that we – as a planetary race – are indeed insane… We built a new culture – Lemuria, but de‐stroyed that in a similar way. Then – Atlan‐tis, same thing again. And now today we stand in that same valley of decision – with a nuclear guillotine ever hanging above our largely apathetic necks. If all this weren’t a bad enough reflection on mankind’s utter foolishness, a factor that must not be forgotten is that planets are in fact living, conscious entities – in the literal sense. Our destruction of Maldek was not only suicide – but murder. Murder of an intelligence vastly more evolved than our‐selves. The Earth feels the wounds we inflict upon her through warfare and our shameful van‐dalism of the environment. She can even feel the baseness of our thoughts and petty violence towards one another. In fact, she even has to exist at a lower frequency of vibration than she would like to, and is able to, in order for us to be able to live here. If she released her full powers – they would kill us. Not because they are evil; they are not evil in any way; but because they are

too spiritual for a backward race like us to withstand. This extraordinary sacrifice on her part is entirely for our benefit. And being the great Goddess of compassion that she is, no doubt she would be willing to continue this sacrifice for as long as it took for mankind to change and advance, spiritually, to the point when we could all withstand the full impact of her spiritual vibrations.

However, thankfully, no being in creation is allowed to suffer indefinitely. This is an aspect of the law of karma, and as such, greater cosmic beings even than her, will eventually put a stop to her sacrifice, re‐gardless of whether or not mankind is ready. To help mankind get ready for this, teaching after teaching after teaching has been given to Earth by Cosmic Avatars – spiritual masters such as Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Lao Zi and so forth, who are all extraterrestrial in origin. If these teachings were lived – in the correct way exactly as they had been given – then our own vibra‐tions would rise to such an extent that we would be able to live in perfect harmony with the Life Force of our planet, without any need for her to make such an excruci‐ating sacrifice. In more modern times the teachings given by, and through, Dr. George King, serve as the perfect manual for preparation for life in a New Age when the Earth no longer hides her mighty light beneath the bushel of the material form she now adopts. Furthermore, there will come a time when any remotely reasonable doubt about the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life will be quashed for good. Dr. King re‐ceived a prophecy in 1958 that an extra‐terrestrial spiritual master will, at some point in the future, come to Earth – in a spacecraft – completely openly, with great powers, proving his credentials to all. If, after even this, the people of Earth still reject common sense spirituality and per‐sist in the ugliness of war and the futility of greed, etc., they will cease to reincar‐nate on this planet, and will instead be

born onto a younger world – another planet as yet undetected by mainstream science. They will be born into greater limitation than we now experience on Earth, and into much more hostile environ‐mental conditions. This is not a punish‐ment but simply the continuation of a natural evolutionary trajectory; this new world will provide them with the experi‐ence they require to evolve. This will leave the remainder of mankind to build a New Age of peace and enlighten‐ment, an age without the necessity of na‐tional borders, or a monetary system. An age free from violence, poverty and even disease. An age when the karma of man‐kind no longer demands so‐called “natural” catastrophes, because we will be living in complete harmony with our environment, and one another. At some point after the advent of this ex‐traterrestrial spiritual master – the Earth will unveil herself – freeing herself of her current limitation, allowing her light to shine forth for the whole galactic system to see. We ourselves, by that time, if we are among those who remain here, will be adepts of the spiritual sciences, able to withstand the Earth’s colossally high spiri‐tual vibrations, and also capable of feats so great as to seem almost laughable to our current minds. We will have advanced psychic powers and great powers of heal‐ing – and, greatest of all, we will be blessed with the power of wisdom.

The following interview with Diane Tessman, author of the brand new book ‘UFO AGENDA’, was conducted by Della van Hise the edi‐tor of the QUANTUM SHAMAN(QS) website and periodical.

(QS): Diane, what is your main goal in writing this book?

(DT) I have been a UFO researcher, writer, and experiencer, for over thirty years, having had several childhood encounters with UFO oc‐cupants. I have written five books over the years, several of which are very popular, but I wanted this time to put it all together and by doing so, reveal something new and astounding – the answers! I have concluded with certainty that there is not just one answer, but many answers to this ancient and enormous mystery. One of the barriers to humans finding out about the UFO agenda is that we look for one right answer. Each one of us then embraces one theory, and tends to exclude all other possible answers. We think we need to choose a team and then champion that one team. In fact, there are a number of origins of UFO occupants and a number of motives as to why they remain in our skies year after year. My book, published in July 2013, on Kindle and in paperback on Amazon, explores all the possibilities and answers. The answers regarding UFOs are huge, complex, and mind‐bending. I have attempted to capture this incredible tableau with logic and with intuitive insight from spirit, because both logic and spirit are crucial to the answers.

QS: Why did you divide your book into three main sections?

(DT) The first section of the book is entitled “Human Consciousness and Quantum Intelligence” because in my over 30 years of actively investigating UFOs and their occupants, I have again and again run into a presence I call “my Other.” I relate this to all humankind having “the Other” awaiting just across the veil. Somehow, as our human intelligence, knowledge and consciousness expands, so does the uni‐verse. More alien planets are spotted every day, more spinning galaxies appear, and more alien beings also manifest. Our survival and evolution as a species is indeed involved in the UFO phenomenon! As our awareness grows, they come to us more and more. The second section of my new book is “The Paranormal: Ghosts, Fairies, and Phantoms.” I believe that everyone involved in the search for UFO an‐swers, knows that The Paranormal is sometimes involved. Or perhaps always involved? In UFO AGENDA, I explore ghosts, fairies, phan‐toms and ultra‐terrestrial domains such as the dark plasma biosphere as UFO connected in a way which hasn’t quite been explored be‐fore. The third section is simply, “UFOs and Aliens,” and offers answers. I list and explain alien sources and motives/motivations as I have discovered them to be over the many years since my own in‐person contact with aliens in childhood. I also tackle questions such as what will become of human religions and society. I openly connect our own collective consciousness in its evolving state with these beings from other domains, realms, planets, and sources.

QS: Would you call your interest in UFOs intellectual or spiritual and which view of the puzzle is reflected in your new book?

(DT) Both! No longer can we proclaim that the UFO puzzle is absolutely scientific/intellectual OR spiritual. We have to realize it is BOTH and only in realizing this do we find the answers! Humans need to open their minds to logic/spirit blending which will allow a more com‐plete view of reality itself. This is our evolutionary step at hand. And when we collectively take that step, we will perceive the gigantic truths about UFOs and their mysterious occupants from mysterious sources. My new book “UFO AGENDA, So You Want to Know the Truth?” opens the portal of understanding which I believe has not been opened before.

No visit to California would be complete without spending time at the tourist Mecca of Hollywood. Visitors see it as a place of entertainment and glamour. But they may not realise that it’s also one of the most haunted areas in the United States. Legen‐dary celebrity psychic/medium Kenny King‐ston, the author of 6 books, has long been associated with Hollywood and the enter‐tainment world as spiritual counselor to stars of stage, film and television. His gifts were first rec‐ognized when he was a child. Ironically, two sites nor‐mally associated with comedy and laughter are among Hollywood’s most haunted loca‐tions. The Laugh Factory

The Laugh Factory, at 8001 W. Sunset Boulevard, has helped launch and continue the careers of Jim Carrey, Roseanne, Rod‐ney Dangerfield, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Milton Berle and many oth‐ers. Tourists and locals gather to enjoy a night of laughter and a drink or two. But when Kenny Kingston taped a CNN televi‐sion interview there several years ago, he

found as many big names in spirit as there were living comics appearing onstage.

“The first thing I picked up was someone on the second floor,” he recalls. “I saw a spirit and felt a very strong presence. This spirit told me he was the legendary come‐dian Groucho Marx (who, along with his brothers made up the iconic film team “The Marx Brothers”). Kingston says, “He was walking around upstairs and saying

he looks down at the comics onstage, listening to the audience’s response. He loves the sound of laughter.”

Nancy Clark was a public relations repre‐sentative for The Laugh Factory at the time of the interview and she confirmed the likelihood of Groucho’s spirit being present. “Most people don’t know that at one time Groucho used the whole second floor as his office,” she said. “Some of us who worked there felt his spirit in the club.” Another spirit visitor is controver‐sial comedian Lenny Bruce, Kingston says. “Look for him by the men’s room, for no particular reason except that he thinks he can draw more attention there.”

A frequent ghostly visitor is “Blues Brother” star John Belushi, who tragically passed away from a drug overdose not far away, at the Chateau Marmont Hotel. “You might feel a chill as you’re sitting at your table watching a show,” Kingston advises. “If you feel a breeze, watch for the candle flame on your table to flicker. He’s walking by.” Nancy Clark again con‐firmed this type of activity, saying, “John Belushi was a friend of The Laugh

Factory’s owner Jamie Masada.” She says that one night Belushi and Masada had been together at the club and were locking up for the night, checking to see that all the table candles were extinguished and the lights turned off. Satisfied that it was dark they turned to leave, but saw one small flicker of light on a table. “We must have missed a candle,” Belushi said. They then realized it looked

more like a lit cigar on the table. “That’s impossible,” they said. When they looked again, the cigar had disappeared. They both thought of Groucho Marx’s trade‐mark cigar smoking; but instead of trying to communicate with him they ran out the door as fast as they could. The Comedy Store Another popular – and haunted – club is the Comedy Store, at 8433 W. Sunset Boulevard. It began as a hugely

popular night club named Ciro’s in the 1940s and 1950s. Performers such as Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Maurice Chevalier entertained during the club’s heyday. Ciro’s closed, but was re‐opened in 1972 as The Comedy Store and its stage has featured performances by Richard Pryor, Chelsea Handler, Sam Kinis‐ton, Robin Williams and many others. It’s still a hot spot today, but if you decide to attend a show, look for some famous names who’ve long since made the transi‐tion to the spirit world among the eve‐ning’s “guests.”

Kingston has toured the club at the request of several news programs and usually feels drawn to the basement when beginning his walk‐through. He’s been allowed in the area to search for spirits, but this area is not open to the public. However its en‐trance is visible as you enter the back door from the parking lot. “There’s a lot of spirit energy in the basement and it’s not all good,” Kingston admits. “I felt a negative cold spot and sensed an argument about money. There seems to have been gam‐bling involved that led to a stabbing. In fact, I could psychically see blood on the

floor.” Personnel at the club confirmed that mobsters, including Mickey Cohen, had been frequent visitors during the clubs incarnation as Ciro’s, possibly playing a silent but active role in the club. This could certainly account for Kingston’s psychic impression of gambling and blood. The psychic isn’t the only one to sense negativ‐ity in the basement. Comedian Joey Gaynor, who’s performed at the club, told the story of going into the basement and seeing a large, blue figure which at first looked like a shadow on the wall. “But it came towards me,” he remembers, “and I held up my hands, saying, No – stay back – stay away.“

Gaynor said he got chills looking at the fig‐ure, yet his hands were burning hot and needless to say, he hurried back upstairs. Kingston feels that more innocent gambling occurred in the basement, too. “Surprisingly, I feel former President Ronald Reagan spent time playing cards there,” he says. In a smaller room above the main showroom, Kingston picked up the spirit of his friend Mae West, who used to entertain many other celebrities and VIPs in that room in Ciro’s earlier days.

The main showroom has been home to many visitations, as well. “I saw Errol Flynn walking in the wings near the stage,” King‐ston says. Comic Argus Hamilton agrees. While waiting to speak to owner Mitzi Shore one day he sat onstage playing piano. “Something caught my attention,” he says, “and out of the corner of my eye I saw someone standing nearby. I swear it was Errol Flynn.”

It’s been home to spirits for many years. “Spend some time upstairs in the Gable/Lombard Suite,” Kingston advises, “and you’re apt to have a visit from the couple, who spent honeymoon time at the hotel. They’ve playfully moved objects when I’ve taped television interviews in the suite,” he recalls. Another area that’s known for its cold spot of spirit energy is the Blossom Room, home to the first Academy Awards cere‐mony. “I don’t so much feel one spirit there,” Kingston admits, “it’s more like an accumulation of spirits whose energy has been left behind from the important events such as the Oscars that have taken place there. The Viper Room

If music and not comedy is your pleasure, a visit to The Viper Room is in order. Located at 8852 Sunset Boulevard in West Holly‐wood, the club was once called the Melody Room and owned by gangster Bugsy Siegel in the 1940s. From 1993 on, it was re‐named The Viper Room and was partly owned by actor Johnny Depp till 2004. Sadly, on Halloween 1993, Depp’s friend, “Stand by Me” star River Phoenix, passed away of drug‐induced heart failure on the sidewalk outside the club while Depp was onstage inside playing guitar.

Kingston has visited the club twice and says there is definitely a heavy feeling there, not only inside the club, but even outside near the spot where Phoenix collapsed. “It’s dark and negative there – I think anyone who visits would feel it. I’m glad Johnny Depp has severed ties with the club, be‐cause it was attracting negative vibrations to him,” he says. In fact, on the 13th anni‐versary of the tragic Halloween event, King‐ston held a séance and Phoenix’s spirit warned his friend Depp that danger was to be found in the shadows for him, possibly from an obsessive fan. He advised Depp to be more aware of security around himself and his family. “I feel the Viper Room curse is now over for Johnny Depp and the spirit world is glad he’s moved on,” he says. The Hollywood Roosevelt

Visitors needn’t go any further than their hotel to encounter spirits, if they happen to

hotel’s ninth floor. If you’re feeling truly brave, ask for Room 928. It was in this room that Montgomery Clift stayed while filming ‘’From Here to Eternity’. He’d walk up and down the halls at night rehearsing his lines and learning to play the bugle for his role as Private Prewitt. Since Clift’s passing, unsuspecting guests have called to the front desk, asking them to please stop the person who’s walking the halls playing a bugle at all hours. Guests of room 928 have awakened to the sound of their shower running. They’ve returned from sightseeing to find their bed moved across the room. “It’s just Montgomery Clift reliving a happy time,” Kingston insists. “He doesn’t mean any harm.”

Recently Kingston was asked by cable chan‐nel ‘American Movie Classics’ to hold a séance for Clift on what would have been his birthday. It was part of a viewer appre‐ciation contest. Contest winners gathered at the Roosevelt and just prior to going up to 928 for the séance (where the spirits of Clift and Burt Lancaster, among other celeb‐rities, put in an appearance) Kingston spoke to them in the hotel’s pool area, explaining some séance ground rules.

“Just as I got to the part about how they should listen for Montgomery Clift to blow the bugle during the séance, we all heard a very loud sound of a bugle. Just one note, but it got people’s attention, including some hotel guests who’d innocently been swim‐ming and listening to my talk. I’ve never seen people get out of a pool so quickly,” he laughs. Even walking on the ninth floor can generate some spirit activity, Kingston says. “I’ve been there when locked linen closet doors fly open and then slam shut,” he says. “And from the moment you step off the elevator on the ninth floor there’s a sense of spirit activity. People either feel extremely warm or extremely cold.” Musso & Frank’s

If you’re hungry, a meal at Musso & Frank’s restaurant at 6667 Hollywood Boulevard can satisfy the appetite, give a possible peek at current celebrities such as Nicolas Cage, Brad Pitt or Ben Kingsley, and per‐haps even entice a spectral visitor or two. Open for well over 65 years, the restaurant was a favorite hangout for literary types such as William Faulkner, Ernest Heming‐way and F. Scott Fitzgerald as well as early film personalities. “I’ve met several journal‐ists for print interviews at Musso & Frank’s,” Kingston recalls, “and I taped a television interview for a British talk show starring Sadie Frost (a model and former wife of. Jude Law).” Apparently Errol Flynn is quite busy, because Kingston has seen him here, too. “He was standing behind a man seated at a nearby table,” he smiles. “He kept scratching the man’s neck and the

man would reach up to touch his neck because he felt it.” Other celebrity spirits to look for include Lionel Barrymore, Pe‐ter Lorre, and by the bar, Orson Welles and Charles Laughton.

Grauman’s Chinese Theatre Before leaving Hollywood Boulevard, most tourists would naturally visit the address of 6925, the site of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. It was built in 1927 by theatre entrepreneur Sid Grauman. The theatre was home to the Academy Awards cere‐mony during the 1940s and has also played host to numerous film premieres, with its red carpet and bright lights at‐tracting television and newspaper report‐ers worldwide. The first premiere, for 1927’s Cecil B. DeMille epic “King of Kings”, drew 50,000 fans, who gathered to see their favorite celebrities arrive.

But its fame has come primarily from the more than 200 hand and footprints that fill the courtyard leading into the 1400‐seat movie theatre. Additional body parts and items are imprinted in cement, too, such as comedian Jimmy Durante’s nose, Harpo Marx’s harp, John Wayne’s fist and Whoopi Goldberg’s dreadlocks. Stars such as Harrison Ford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise have left their mark in more recent years.

It seems the spirits are as intrigued as the tourists to see their imprints. Kingston says each time he’s visited, he’s felt the presence of a spirit as he looked at their particular signature or imprint. “They like to reminisce about the special honor of being memorialized there,” he says. “I feel mostly happy energy at the theatre,” he says. “I’ve encountered Humphrey Bogart and gossip columnist Louella Parsons while visiting.” His dear friend Marion Davies (who was publishing czar William Randolph Hearst’s mistress and whose life was portrayed in Orson Welles’ classic film “Citizen Kane”) has been seen wandering the cement courtyard, as well.

“But there is one element of negativity near the sidewalk of the theatre,” he ad‐mits. There’s almost a feeling of an invisi‐ble barrier between the sidewalk and the courtyard, he says, and he attributes it to character actor Victor Killian, who co‐starred with John Wayne in “Reap the Wild Wind.” Killian lived a block from the theatre and was killed by an intruder after walking back to his home from a night on the Boulevard in 1979. His killer was never found, and it seems he still roams this block of Hollywood Boulevard, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. “It’s a futile ef‐fort,” Kingston says, “but his spirit is angry and restless and almost blocks visitors from entering the courtyard till he’s had a good look at them.”

Greystone Mansion

A couple of miles from Hollywood, at 905 Loma Vista Drive in Beverly Hills, sits the impressive Greystone Mansion. Built in 1927, the 55‐room estate has been the film site for countless films including “X‐Men”, “The Social Network”, “Spiderman III”, “The Prestige”, “There Will Be Blood” and even an Elton John music video. But despite its beauty and lush grounds (the grounds are open for public tours), the mansion was home to a notorious murder/suicide and its chilling effects can still be felt today.

The land was first owned by Edward Law‐rence Doheny, a wealthy Los Angeles busi‐nessman. He gave a parcel of land to his only child, Edward “Ned” Doheny, Jr. and the mansion was built, being named Grey‐stone when completed. In September, 1928, Ned, his wife and their five children moved in; yet five months later 35‐year‐old Ned was dead. He was fatally shot by his private secretary Theodore H. Plunkett who, after killing young Doheny in his of‐fice, went into the hallway and killed him‐self. The official verdict is that Plunkett was disgruntled after being refused an increase in salary. Unofficial reports hinted at a “lover’s quarrel.” Details were quickly hushed up and the unsolved scandal was eventually forgotten. Mrs. Doheny lived at Greystone until the 1950s and it then be‐came the property of the City of Beverly Hills.

The prestigious American Film Institute leased the property for 12 years but now it is used exclusively for weddings, recep‐tions and extensive film shoots. It’s beauti‐ful to tour, but Kingston says, “I don’t call many places ‘spooky’, but this is one of them. I wouldn’t want to live there. I wouldn’t know where to put furniture or hang a painting. I would feel extremely uncomfortable spending the night here as a guest. The spirit of the murdered Do‐heny, Jr. and the negativity of the tragedy lingers on here.” So, while the grounds are lovely to look at, venture too close to the mansion and especially the side windows housing the room where Doheny’s body was found, and a heaviness will overcome you, Kingston warns. It’s a grisly and little‐known bit of Hollywood‐area history. Westwood Memorial Some people visit cemeteries as a way to contact spirits and oddly enough, to “sightsee” and come in close contact with celebrities, albeit those who have passed over. If that’s your style, Kingston recom‐mends Westwood Memorial or Hollywood Forever. Tiny Westwood Memorial covers only 3.3 acres, tucked away behind high‐rise office buildings at 1218 Glendon Drive, just off busy Wilshire Boulevard.

It is final resting place to an impressive number of show business personalities such as singers Roy Orbison and Dean Martin, actor Burt Lancaster, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Two of Hollywood’s beau‐ties enjoy eternal rest here: Natalie Wood and Kingston’s client and friend Marilyn Monroe. “They’ve met in Paradise,” he says, “and they spend time together, some‐times at Westwood Memorial.”

Why would these two meet in spirit? “Natalie’s drowning was tragic and sudden and it took her a long time to awaken after a rest period on the other side. Marilyn was no stranger to a sudden, tragic passing and she helped Natalie’s spirit recover,” King‐ston clarifies. He has often communicated with Marilyn and says she’s told him they discuss men and a love of children, which Natalie had and Marilyn wanted. “They come together to the cemetery, sit on a bench donated by Marilyn’s fans, and giggle with delight as they see people who come to pay them respect.” Kingston also feels author Truman Capote visits his burial site to delight in attention paid him. “Don’t be surprised to feel a breeze or hear a little chuckle when you visit him. Just say ‘you’re welcome’ and he’ll be thrilled.” Hollywood Forever

Hollywood Forever Cemetery, at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, is enormous, cov‐ering 55 acres and lying right behind busy Paramount Studios.

It’s a tranquil location yet elaborately deco‐rated. One of the largest and most lavish funerals in early Hollywood took place here with the 1926 passing of screen lover Ru‐dolph Valentino. He was laid to rest in the Cathedral Mausoleum, which also contains

linked on earth. “In Clifton’s early days as a dancer, he worked with a woman named Bonnie Glass. When Clifton left the team as a career move, Glass replaced him with a young Italian man who toured vaudeville with her. His name was Rudolph Valen‐tino.” Another of Kingston’s clients and friends is interred at Hollywood Forever – is film actress Marion Davies. The white marble mausoleum bears her real family name, Douras. When alive, Davies often at‐tended Kingston’s séances in Beverly Hills along with Marilyn Monroe, columnist Louella Parsons and Clifton and his mother Mabelle Webb. “Clifton, Mabelle and Marion wander here together from time to time now,” he says. Others buried in the cemetery include Tyrone Power, gangster Bugsy Siegel and punk rock guitarist Johnny Ramone. One location Kingston will not recommend is the complex at Hollywood + Highland, filled with shops, restaurants and home to the Kodak Theatre, which hosts the Oscars. “I’ve driven by many times,” he says. “I find it very unpleasant. There’s a nervous energy, in fact so much energy that it feels like something is going to explode there.” So he stays away and would advise tourists to do the same. As Kingston ends his tour of the Haunts of Hollywood, we are re‐minded that, as the old saying goes, “All that glitters is not gold.” And in the case of Hollywood’s beloved dead, all that are thought to be peacefully sleeping…may not be...

the remains of Peter Lorre and Peter Finch. Oddly enough, more recently the cemetery has begun showing films outdoors, pro‐jected on the walls of this mausoleum. No doubt it’s a fun evening, but sitting in a graveyard watching a movie is not for eve‐ryone. The cemetery has been regarded as haunted for many years and Kingston agrees. “There are many ‘ghosts’ here,” he chuckles. “I don’t usually use that word but it works for this location. There are spirits everyone and though they’re not harmful there is a certain heaviness – an overpower‐ing feeling – in certain places. One time when a television crew was filming a story with Kingston, they ran into technical diffi‐culties each time they tried to record near Valentino’s crypt. A camera wouldn’t work, a light refused to stay on. “Valentino was there that day, of that I’m certain,” he says. Kingston’s longtime friend and client, Broadway and film star Clifton Webb, is buried in the Abbey of Psalms Mausoleum alongside his beloved mother. “Clifton drops by, walking the corridor. You may catch his shadow out of the corner of your eye. He likes to see how many fans stop by to see him.” Sun shines strongly in this building, adding extreme heat but most importantly, an overpowering spirit energy can make the area very uncomfortably hot. If you visit the cemetery in the summer it’s best to visit the Abbey in the cooler morn‐ing hours. Kingston says it’s ironic that Webb and Valentino are buried in the same cemetery since their paths were indirectly

Fredrich Wilhelm Nietzsche 1844‐1900 The above astonishingly astute quotation from an observation made by the German philosopher, Wilhelm Nietzsche, on the risks involved in becoming involved with causes and beings whose enmity knows no bounds and re‐flects with disturbing accu‐racy what occurred during the filming of a fairly recent supernatural mystery/drama, ‘The Stone’. What occurred on the set of ‘The Stone’ in many ways reso‐nates with inexplicable incidents during the filming of other films that dared to portray and confront some traditions and icons associ‐ated with the darker side of religious belief and spiritu‐ality. The most notorious films in this category, and which most certainly did gaze deeply into the abyss, were, arguably, ‘The Omen’ and another film that has been awarded the dubious accolade of one of the most terrifying film ever made, ‘The Exorcist’. This last film was so accu‐rate in its portrayal of both demonic possession and exorcism that it received the unreserved approval of Fr Gabriel Amorth, at one time the chief exorcist of the Vatican. Yes, exorcism, anachronism that it is, is still used by various organisations around the world to great affect; your author has also used it, although not the approved version of the Roman Catholic Church, to equally good effect. Before considering the unsettling events surrounding ‘The Stone’, we should briefly touch upon what occurred during the proc‐ess of making one of the above‐mentioned films. While ‘The Exorcist’ was in produc‐tion, the grandfather of Fr Merrin (played

by Max von Sydow) died of a heart attack. Individually this may have been nothing out of the ordinary, but when one factors in details like a total of nine people dying during filming in bizarre on set accidents,

one of Linda Blair’s relatives died of a heart attack, as did the mother of Fr Da‐mien Karras, (played by Jason Millar) then a little more attention is justified. As if this was not enough, immediately following its cinema release, Jack McGovern (another actor featured in the production) died of a heart attack; were these just the result of bad luck or was something much more sinister afoot? The reaction of paying audiences affected by the content of the film is also curious and alarming; there

were authenticated cases of vomiting, fainting, people soiling themselves, heart attacks, spontaneous comas, some people were committed to psychiatric hospitals and there were even reports of sudden

deaths. Perhaps the most telling and worrying statistic is the fact that at the last count in 2005, approximately 1500 people had died while watching this film. As a mat‐ter of interest, although still a legitimate and incredibly influential work; in Finland it is still utterly proscribed. I have to declare an interest here, when I first saw the film many years ago it affected me at a visceral level and in the years since I have been pre‐sent at several exorcisms, from my own experiences, while this film is about as accurate as it gets, not all exorcisms are quite so de‐manding. The Location and Background to ‘The Stone’. A worrying account indeed, but what of the events sur‐rounding the production of ‘The Stone’, another film that dares to gaze into the un‐known and perilous void of the abyss? Briefly, the plot of the film concerns a team of paranormal researchers who venture into an old building (which, incidentally, is not only a real location, but is also reputedly haunted) and the horrific events that unfold around them. Some of the events associated with the location (Annesley Hall) have been used as part of the story.

Before proceeding further I have to grate‐fully acknowledge the fact that I was given exclusive access to the accounts and ex‐periences of the director plus several members of the cast and crew and I have no doubt whatsoever of two things. One is that each of them was 100% sincere and the second is that they were genuinely alarmed by what they experienced. filmmaker, author and former talk show host, Philip Gardiner. Given Philip’s keen interest in the esoteric and various strands of gnostic belief his choice of source mate‐rial should come as no surprise, but even Philip could not have predicted what would occur as the film progressed. The origins of the Hall date back to the 12th century, although its present form is attrib‐utable to a series of enlargements and modifications conducted in the 17th and 18th centuries rendering it more suitable to the needs of a large, prosperous, and thriv‐ing family and their, at the time indispensa‐ble, servants and retainers. Although the hall was named for its original builders, the Annseley family, it latterly became the property of the Chaworth‐Musters and remained so until they sold it in 1973 and moved to nearby Felly Priory. The old build‐ing suffered damage in a fire in 1997 and is no longer inhabited and English heritage have it listed it in its ‘Buildings at Risk Regis‐ter’ as of ‘high vulnerability and deteriorat‐ing’ and the current owners evidently have no plans to carry out any refurbishments. This, however, had no impact on the invisi‐ble residents who never left and who seem to have been disturbed by the arrival of the cast and crew while making the film.

The spirits who allegedly haunt the build‐ing, which was home to a lover (Mary Cha‐worth) of the notorious hell raising poet Lord Byron, include a female servant (Elizabeth) who supposedly became preg‐nant by one of the owners and hung herself after being spurned by her haughty suitor. Curiously enough, but perhaps predictably, there is an 18th century account telling of a duel fought in front of the house between the then Lord Chaworth and the uncle of Lord Byron, which resulted in the death of Lord Chaworth. The shade of the unfortunate loser in the duel is also allegedly seen in the same loca‐tion. Another frequently observed ghost is that of an old man who is seen as a black figure wandering aimlessly as if searching for something. There are also a number of other spectral figures that have been ob‐served from time to time in the building. One particular area of note is the former wine cellar, which was at one time used as a mortuary holding the bodies of the newly deceased prior to funeral services being

on is neck stand up for no obvious reason when he and an actress, Suzy, went into the cellar and former mortuary. He also felt something touching him and there was also the strong impression that the ambi‐ent temperature dropped rapidly when this occurred, although Suzy did not ex‐perience this. However, both of them had the distinct impression of being continually watched while in the cellar. Simon also observed that the electric kettle in the office belonging to the gardener kept boil‐ing spontaneously even when switched off, it was eventually unplugged. Significantly, there was no obvious problem with the kettle (or the thermostat) after this event.

Suzy D (an actress) reports that in addition to her encounters in the cellar with Simon Dulay, she was standing near to the laun‐dry room where the unfortunate Elizabeth hung herself (Suzy actually recreates the grisly hanging scene in the film) when a series of unsettling events occurred. She was chatting to two crew members, Rob and Dick, describing a photograph of the area in which she was sure she could dis‐cern an image of the dead girl and reading from an article about the dead Elizabeth, when, with no warning, the main door slammed violently shut. There was no wind and the door was solid and very heavy, when this occurred her phone froze on the image she was describing. She is adamant that all the photos of the Hall currently on her camera ‘play up’ as she puts it, and even now some of them will not download or the phone simply ‘freezes’.

There is also the account of one of the stuntmen employed on the film. One of them, Nick Spencer, comments that during a hazardous ‘stair fall’ he was injured by a metal bracket lying on one of the stairs. This could be attributed to carelessness except for one thing; the stair had been meticulously checked, tread‐by‐tread, before the fall and had even been swept from top to bottom the stuntman involved; these guys leave nothing to chance. The fall had been done twice, but it was on the third and final fall that the bracket ap‐peared and injured Nick’s leg. No one else had been on the stair other than Nick and he did not carry the bracket with him or place it so that he could fall on it. Some kind of poltergeist influence perhaps?

held in the nearby chapel, we shall hear more of the wine cellar a little later. Filming Begins. According to my information the unnatural events began from the first scene on day one of the shoot, a process that lasted for seven consecutive days, and they affected everyone present to some degree. What follows are the accounts of some of the actors and a stunt man present during the shoot. Wes Dolan (an actor) recounts that he was present when the director, Philip Gardiner’s mobile phone rang during a scene, the phone call came from an actress who was in the scene Phil was directing. She did not have her phone with her at the time and when checked later it was switched off. Wes also says that his phone went flat within half an hour of arriving on set despite being fully charged that morn‐ing, (the standby time for most mobile phones is approx 80 hours). As we shall see, electromagnetic anomalies were often no‐ticed as the filming progressed. Finally, Wes also reported that he ‘felt something’ brush past him as he waited for a scene to begin. There was another incident relating to a mobile phone, this time belonging to a mu‐sician, Corjan, who wrote to score for the film. It is interesting to note that almost all of the mobile phones belonging to actors on the shoot were, to say the least, unreli‐able and problematic. However, while Cor‐jan was back at the hotel used by the cast and crew, he was in his room taking a shower when his phone suddenly burst into life and started playing a tune at about a tenth the normal speed so that the words came out at a very low pitch. He likened it to the typical ‘voice’ used in many horror films when portraying the voice of demons or those possessed and not surprisingly he was alarmed. There was nothing wrong with the phone and it was fully charged, although unlike a tape, CD or record, the state of charge should have no effect on how an MP3 file plays, it either plays or it does not. Simon Dulay (another actor) reports that he took a picture of an upstairs window and in the image there is what he believes to be a figure standing looking out through the glass. He also reports that he felt the hairs

Another incident involving Nick occurred while shooting a stunt called a ‘lake fall’ when he prepared a ‘fall’ into a lake, which is on the estate. According to Nick, the sec‐tion of lake selected is about eight feet deep with approximately three feet of silt and sludge on the bottom. Every time he fell into the water it seemed as if he was being physically dragged down into it and prevented to climbing out. The following day the gardener swam from exactly the same spot with no untoward feelings or unearthly hindrance. Some re‐search indicates that at least four people including a child have drowned in the lake. Could Nick’s uneasy encounters have been the result of some spirits aggrieved at the presence of an interfering film crew, or was this something else? One of the most fascinating events involves the director, Philip Gardiner. According to Philip, he had just completed one of the key scenes, a dramatic and enervating posses‐sion sequence, when the memory card in the camera spontaneously ‘wiped’ or erased itself, Phil had no choice other than to re‐shoot the entire scene, fortunately this time there was no repeat. The question one must ask is why? What is the common factor here? All of these events appear to have an electromagnetic origin and I have personally seen similar things happen to electronic equipment on my own cases when new batteries suddenly went flat and the fully charged spares were also found to be mysteriously discharged. What does this tell us? Has the production of another film dealing with the supernatu‐ral shot in an already reputedly haunted location produced similar effects to those already noted on other, similar productions, or is this a separate and unrelated incident? Why did the majority of the incidents that occurred while filming ‘The Stone’ involve the appearance of electromagnetic phe‐nomena (EMP)? There is ample room for speculation here, for that, regrettably, is all there is, for there is no definitive answer here one way or the other. Are EMP’s created by ghosts and do they exist in some unsuspected bandwidth within the electromagnetic spectrum just as we exist in ours? Or do the EP’s create the ghosts; chicken or egg? Do films depicting or reflecting supernatural events some‐times create a resonance with the invisible worlds around us and invoke the conscious ire of the inhabitants of these worlds? Perhaps we shall never find the answer and as far as The Stone is concerned, most of the ill‐starred events attached to other works of this kind occurred in the post pro‐duction aftermath; let us hope that The Stone and those involved in its genesis do not go down this path...

I love horror films. Mind you, not just any scary movie. I’m talking about vintage, genre‐defining works, such as Hammer Horror productions and cult classics, like The Wicker Man. In addition to horror, these films offered a sub‐

lime blend of drama and sex appeal that has never been equalled. There is a new film, however, that pays homage to the genre, and it’s called The Stone; a supernatural horror film, set in England, about a group of paranormal investi‐gators who travel to a haunted old manor, in the hope of freeing souls that have become trapped in the afterlife.

Along the way they encounter more than they bargained for; they uncover a mirror into the darkest recesses of their souls. The film is engaging and fast paced, and features a rogue cast full of fresh new faces and a director with an eye for the esoteric. Oh, and I’m in it. How I came to appear in a motion picture, let alone star in a supernatural thriller directed by Philip Gardiner, and distributed by Warner Brothers, is not entirely clear. All I know is that one minute I was assisting Global 1000 companies with their customer experience strategy and the next I was walking around Annesley Hall, the former estate of Lord Byron, and one of the most haunted sites in Britain, with a script in my hand, muttering, “What’s my motivation?” Although I have appeared on television and in documentaries, and am a regular on the speakers’ circuit, I was apprehensive about acting. Let’s be honest. I was scared senseless. I did not have much time to prepare, and in the weeks preceding I frantically solicited acting lessons from drama students and friends, such as the accomplished author and playwright, Patrice Chaplin. The instruction helped and allowed me to discover that my character, the Crowley‐inspired ‘Alister’ (an occultist of dubious authenticity, who is addicted to women and whisky and passes himself off as an esoteric guru), was someone I knew more than I cared to admit.

“Hmm. Hardly a stretch then, is it?” Chaplin mused, as I described my character to her on the deck of her north

London flat. “That’s exactly my point,” I retorted defensively. “Being typecast is not as easy as you think. How will they know I’m acting?” My preparation did not stop with acting lessons. I also had to look the part. I struggled, at times, with how a neo‐occultist should look, but I had a vision in my head and several trips to the gothic clothing boutiques in London’s über‐trendy Camden Market soon produced the statement I was going for: pretentious and retro. In the days leading up to the film I helped direct the expert interviews for the opening sequences. We had selected the interviewees with great care and I was keen to hear what they had to say about the role of sacred stones in history and mythology, i.e. the Grail Stone, the Black Stone at Mecca, rune stones, standing stones, etc. The interviews were a great success and created some momentum leading into the film. A week later, I arrived on

set after a memorable, if not harrowing, Saturday night train journey from Nottingham to Mansfield – a trip reminis‐cent of the film Terror Train, only worse – and reacquainted myself with the cast and crew, most of whom I had met at a promotional event a few weeks earlier. We commenced filming with little ado. Disappointingly, I struggled with the first and, arguably, easiest scenes, but found my way with the more dramatic ones. The explanation was simple:

it’s easier to be dramatic and scream than it is to be conversational and subtle.

I’d known Phil for several years. He was a mate, but on the set he was all business. My pleas of “can I try that scene again please?” were not only mostly in vain, they were frequently countered with a terse “No. I have what I need, thank you, now let’s move on.” Similarly, in one scene I stumble, dazed, down an abandoned hallway and unleash a blood‐curdling scream as my character falls downstairs. Thinking I’d nailed it in one, I was cheekily dusting debris

from my soiled shirt and trousers when I heard Phil’s dead‐pan voice deliver an unsympathetic, “Cut! Do it again, and this time don’t scream like a girl.” Eleven takes later we had a winner, but I was unsure which had taken a greater beating, my ego or my knees? I was hurting, but did not want to let on; after all, “what’s a flesh wound amongst friends?” I thought. “And anyway, no sacrifice is too great for the film, right?” I would soon discover just how true this was. Lying at the foot of the stairs, extending the John the Baptist gesture (the index finger pointing upwards in defiance, as depicted in classical art of the Saint) in my left hand, just like I had in the movie poster, with my right hand; my ode to the now lost painting of John the Baptist that once hung over the fire place in Annesley Hall. © Darren Washington. My last scene was certainly the most surreal and would test my resolve like no other. I was buried vertically in a pit with only my head protruding above ground. One by one, maggots, leeches, crickets, and other assorted creepy crawlies, were placed on my head, face and neck, including a tarantula. Within seconds, as if

in unison, they began to slither across my eyes, nose and mouth. Oddly enough, I experienced a sense of calm throughout. I attribute this to having watched my brave and beautiful co‐star, Layla Randle‐Conde, endure a similar scene a few days earlier. That, and the fact that I was warned that if I flinched, the tarantula, which is hypersensitive to vibration, would sting! “Ah, being still is the key” I thought. And in that one scene I learned the true essence of acting. The entire experience was amazing and I am grateful to Phil for the opportunity to have given it a go. I

learned a lot and cannot wait to do it again.

October 1 - Comet C/2013 US10 Catalina. Newly discovered comet C/2013 US10 Catalina may reach naked eye visibility on October 1. The comet will continue to brighten and could reach magnitude 5 by November 6.

October 8 - Draconids Meteor Shower. The Draconids is a minor meteor shower producing only about 10 meteors per hour. It is produced by dust grains left behind by comet 21P Giacobini-Zinner, which was first discovered in 1900. The Draconids is an unusual shower in that the best viewing is in the early evening instead of early morn-ing like most other showers. The shower runs annually from October 6-10 and peaks this year on the the night of the 8th. The second quarter moon will block out all but the brightest meteors this year. If you are patient, you may be able to spot a few good ones. Best viewing will be in the early evening from a dark location far away from city lights. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Draco, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

October 11 - Uranus at Opposition. The blue-green planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view Uranus. Due to its distance, it will only appear as a tiny blue-green dot in all but the most powerful telescopes.

October 16 - Mercury at Greatest Western Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest western elongation of 18.1 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the morning sky. Look for the planet low in the eastern sky just before sunrise.

October 13 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 00:06 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.

October 21, 22 - Orionids Meteor Shower. The Orionids is an average shower producing up to 20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by dust grains left behind by comet Halley, which has been known and observed since ancient times. The shower runs annually from October 2 to November 7. It peaks this year on the night of October 21 and the morn-ing of October 22.

The first quarter moon will set shortly after midnight leaving fairly dark skies for what should be a good show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Orion, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

October 26 - Venus at Greatest Western Elongation. The planet Venus reaches greatest eastern elongation of 46.4 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Venus since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the morning sky. Look for the bright planet in the eastern sky before sunrise.

In what is needlessly called “alternative health”, we see the might of trans‐national drug companies steering government health policies as well as affecting personal sovereignty in the form of forced vaccinations, freedom of choice in the treatment of serious disease, and the right to be able to purchase health prod‐ucts of our choosing.

In explorations of “fringe sciences”, including subjects such as the Expanding Earth theory or the Electric Universe theory, we see the unexplained anomalies regarding energy, gravity, electricity and biology, being ignored, suppressed or ridiculed. I believe that it is in the open‐minded exploration of such anomalies, that we actually further our scientific understanding of our universe. In discus‐sion of consciousness and the paranormal, we again see mainstream media re‐porting distorted versions of events, misreporting factual data, not reporting it at all, and again, outright ridicule (snigger factor).

The fact of the matter is that people want to know more about who we are as spiritual beings, about the role of consciousness in determining how we experi‐ence life, and the role our inherent beliefs have on how we live and treat other people. I believe that the vast majority of people on this planet want to live in peace and harmony with each other, and I also believe that there are forces at work, including the military‐intelligence‐industrial complex, that desire and profit from manufactured conflict. We live in an era where a growing number of people are stepping up to blow the whistle on illegal and suppressed informa‐tion. Information they believe is in everyone’s interests to be made public. Un‐fortunately, despite the assurances of protection to whistleblowers from world leaders, we actually see the opposite—the suppression and persecution of such people.

And finally, we live on a planet where the way in which we live is dramatically affecting the entire ecosystem. Meas‐urable levels of chemicals are found in the air over the entire planet—in the groundwater of every continent, and in the oceans everywhere. Why is it noble to focus on CO2 and energy sav‐ing, while ignoring the death, disease and destruction of our habitat and life forms, including our own? I have cre‐ated the Alternative News Project (ANP), not as a vehicle to fight the current mainstream manufactured reality, but instead to provide a vehicle for like‐minded, independent thinkers, to help create something new. Some‐thing better. Instead of endless searches on the Internet, we will bring you the news, every day, right across the spectrum of hundreds of non‐mainstream news Topics. We have called it a Project, as it is not just about information—it is about the building of a global community through the distri‐bution of information. The ANP is the first time that independent thinkers of the world (i.e. you) have a centralised location not only to see more of what is going on in your world than ever before, but where you also have the opportunity to send alternative news and information from anywhere across the globe. On December 9, 1965 at 4:47 pm, ‘something’ navigated through

our airspace and made a semi controlled landing in

For me, the entire story has been about how it made a left turn near Cleveland and a right turn near Kecksburg and slowed down before minimally “crash” landing in rural Kecksburg and avoiding population centers (like Flight 93). The legend has grown to include one witness who saw a scaly, three fingered hand come out of the top of the UFO, similar to the ending of the 1953 movie “War of the Worlds”, to seeing an alien body on a gurney at Hangar 18 at Wright Patterson Air Force base alongside a cone shaped craft. I was contacted in February 2015 by Owen Eichler in regards to his theory that the December 9, 1965 Kecksburg UFO incident was potentially a crash and retrieval of a GE Mark 2 reentry vehicle (RV) launched on December 7, 1965. Owen said he has spent ten years researching his theory and be‐lieves he is correct. The GE Mark 2 RV has never been mentioned as a possible candi‐date for Kecksburg. This object was a spy capsule that was kept secret until 1991. I posed a few questions that were significant to the case:

Although I always root for the UFO, Owen got my attention and as the Pa State Direc‐tor for the Mutual UFO Network, I feel obli‐gated to offer his theory as a possible expla‐nation for the Kecksburg UFO even though I still had questions as to the symbolic writ‐ing and whether GE, NASA or the Air Force can confirm where the loss of the reentry vehicle landed? I contacted experts in the field for a GE phone contact but they didn’t have one. I also attempted to contact GE and Lockheed Martin since Lockheed took over the Mark 2 design program and would have the records, but with no luck. I also wondered if the GE Mark 2 didn’t collide with Cosmos 96 since the Russians said the Cosmos 96 probe struck something in space. As we approach the 50th anniversary

of the event, here’s what Owen, who wit‐nessed the in‐flight characteristics of the UFO, had to say: "It was a clear day on December 9, 1965” explains Mr. Eichler, "Myself and several other neighborhood boys and girls were playing baseball in an open area with a wide field of view. As catcher, I saw a bright multi‐colored flaming object and called to my playmates to look. I was 13 years old at the time. The predominately green glowing object with wisps of yellow, purple and orange colors was moving from northwest to southeast in my little village of Shafton near Irwin, Pennsyl‐vania. As I had been spending flying time in a small Piper Cub with a neighbor, I was amazed at how low and level the object was moving. I also had spent many hours at a local airport and was familiar with speed and altitude of small airplanes. The object seemed to have a speed somewhat greater than that of small aircraft and a low altitude. In addition, as the object was moving along a path parallel and above the Pennsylvania Turnpike Bridge in the vicinity of the Irwin/North Huntingdon interchange, I can still remember checking the speed against the distance as I was instructed when flying in small aircraft. As I found out later in life, the object travelled an additional 17 miles to Kecksburg and did not significantly lose altitude. But most of all, I was fixated on the predominantly green color of the object." Mr. Eichler discovered later in high school chemistry that the element copper glows green when incinerated in the open atmosphere. The connection of copper and the object he saw in 1965 put him on an investigative path of the origin of the object for the next 45 years. Moving ahead in time to the present, and after many hours of research, Mr. Eichler has determined the object was an American reentry vehicle designed and manufactured by the General Electric Cor‐poration designated as the MK2 blunt body reentry vehicle.

During the late 1950s, many reentry vehi‐cles were designed and flown by the United States and the USSR for the original goal of delivery of nuclear bombs. Various Ameri‐can types of designs were tested with the so called "blunt body" design as the design of preference. The blunt body design made use of introducing the reentry vehicle into the atmosphere with a large air‐pushing event resulting in a buffering of the atmos‐phere to dissipate heat from the reentry vehicle. The American design used a sec‐tion‐spherical design while the Soviets used a full spherical design. The American de‐sign incorporated controls and jets to "steer" the reentry vehicle while in orbit whereas the Soviet version may not have incorporated such steering controls. Also, the American design used an internal moveable weighted control system for maneuvering in dense atmosphere closer to earth enabling the reentry vehicle to climb, descend and make turns.

Owen said the GE reentry vehicle had four control jets and an internal weighting control system for stability and guidance using the coanda effect to glide. Owen also said this was not a NASA project. 2. Why would the military show up in such force for a GE reentry vehicle? Owen said it was used for in‐space identification of orbit‐ing space craft and may have contained a Radio Isotope Thermal Generator (RTG) that needed to be recovered in order to control and prevent a radiation leak. The first nu‐clear power generators were used in 1961. 3. What is the explanation for the writing or symbols on the sides of the object? Owen said it was the result of identification weld‐ing on the reentry vehicle because there were numerous launches. The RV was also attached to the Atlas rocket at the base.

forward oncoming atmosphere can be tilted by the use of the trajectory control system to change the leading edge of the vehicle thereby changing/steering the path of the vehicle. The vehicle then in effect can rise or fall or turn left or right. This in flight capa‐bility was demonstrated by the object seen by many observers. And, during the final moments of the event when the reentry vehicle landed in Kecksburg, an eyewitness, Frances Kalp, remarked about seeing a "four star" object. The "four star" reference most likely was the four control jets used to steer the vehicle while in orbit and possibly used to change the descent speed. Note the similarities between the prototype, the ac‐tual MK2 RV and the hand drawn sketch/deposition by musician Jerry Betters who had never seen a MK2 RV or any other space craft up close. As explained below, the MK2 had various capabilities for deliver‐ing many payloads such as a nuclear device. Note the funneled end of the MK2 RV. Provi‐sions are made to eject a data capsule, or possibly a camera/film canister for later recovery.”

What about the predominantly green color of the object? Mr. Eichler states, "I was able to confirm that the blunt end of the object, the heat sink, was made of copper with minute alloying metals such as beryllium. Reports of green fireballs seen in the south‐western state of New Mexico occurring during the 1950s involving early test flights of reentry vehicles were followed up by ground surveys identifying copper residue over and above normal levels in the low‐flying flight path of objects seen flying over the area. Copper heat sinks sound counter‐intuitive to protecting a reentry vehicle from heat but the physics of the blunt body design demon‐strate that there can be ample heat protec‐tion. As a note of record, later RV heat re‐jection techniques used an ablative mate‐rial; a design that allows for heat absorp‐tion and subsequent stripping of the

ablative material from the reentry vehicle to release heat. The ablative design al‐lowed for a completely different physical shape than that of the MK2 reentry vehi‐cle." For a military perspective, Mr. Eichler added, “This was a cold war project based on the A4 German rocket, commonly known as the V2, designed by Werner Von Braun. The MK2 was the first reentry vehi‐cle to be used to carry an atomic warhead carrying up to 1.5 megatons of TNT equivalent at that time. An historical item of note is WWII Germany and Mr. Von Braun conceptualizing an A10 multi‐stage rocket with an atomic warhead to send via air mail to New York City. “The MK2 reentry vehicle was put atop the United States' Thor and Atlas rocket vehi‐cles. Many of these weapons were de‐ployed in various parts of the world with designations of IRBMs (Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles). For example, under "Project Emily", up to 60 of the Thor

IRBMs were deployed to Great Britain in the early 1960s. The United States sent the missiles and a training team from Vandenberg Air Force Base, here in the United States, to Great Britain. There were other deployments as well. Referring to figures 4 and 5, note the nose of the Thor rocket with provisions to receive the MK2 RV. Also note the general size of the in‐stalled MK2 as compared to the Air Force personnel standing below it.”

Mr. Eichler further stated, “The deploy‐ment of the Thor MK2 armed nuclear mis‐sile was eventually recalled from Great Britain as a result of advancing technology and the vulnerability of the MK2 reentry vehicle to intercepting enemy aircraft as the MK2 was slow moving and could be shot down. However, during the 1960s the United States Atlas Rocket was phased in to deliver the MK2 reentry vehicle. The Atlas SM‐65 rocket gave some advantages that the Thor rocket was lacking. For exam‐ple, much longer range and orbiting capa‐bilities. The Thor rocket could only deliver a sub‐orbital payload. With the Atlas Rocket, the IRBM became an Inter‐Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). With the introduction of the Atlas rocket also came smaller and more efficient reen‐try vehicles. So, then, because there were so many of the MK2’s made, possibly over 2000 units, they became useful in other areas of space research and development. Many MK2 vehicles were used to monitor atmospheric parameters in support of the United States moon landing. Another re‐markable program employed by the United States was Program 437. The latter pro‐gram, akin to President Reagan's "Star Wars" initiative, focused on using a nuclear explosion in space to disable an enemy's satellite with Electro‐magnetic Pulse waves.

“I also have a suspicion that the strange markings around the base of the Kecksburg UFO may have been caused by the super‐structure of a second reentry vehicle being welded to the base of the MK2. After the remnants of the superstructure burned away upon reentry of the MK2 in the atmos‐phere, all that would be left would be illegi‐ble weld spoils in various unintelligible con‐figurations when seen by a common by‐stander. And, in addition, the base of the MK2 is the only place of attachment of a superstructure as the rest of the MK2 was buried in nose of the launch vehicle and was made of thick 316 alloy stainless steel sheeting, copper cladded and overall electro‐coated with platinum. Also, the strange markings may be identification marks cre‐ated with a welding stick and a welder to provide positive identification as to the particular model (MK2A, MK2B, and MK2C) of the RV and its payload”. The possibility of the reentry vehicle that landed in Kecksburg of carrying a nuclear warhead is remote. Witnesses stated they saw people dressed in what they describe as full body suits and carrying something re‐sembling what is commonly called a Geiger counter. Examination of Mr. Eichler's re‐search demonstrates many reentry vehicles of the 1960s needed a power source. Mr. Eichler says, "Early power sources utilized batteries, with AC‐DC inverters or nuclear thermopiles. The power source of record was a Radio‐isotope Thermal Generator (RTG). The generator uses a nuclear mate‐rial that generates heat. The heat, in turn, heats a thermocouple assembly to generate electricity to power communications and control systems. In the early models, Pluto‐nium‐238, Curium 244 and Strontium 90 were used as the heat source. Factually, the authorities would be looking to verify the structural integrity of the reentry vehicle was not breached as a result of the impact potentially releasing radioactive contami‐nants from the RTG.” All of Owen’s proof can be found by search‐ing the internet. I also found this informa‐tion online: The Corona program was operated by the CIA with assistance of the Air Force and was used to spy on the Soviet Union and China beginning in June 1959 and ending in May 1972. Program 437 turned the PGM‐17 Thor into an operational anti‐satellite (ASAT) weapon system; a capability that was kept top secret. The Program 437 mis‐sion was approved for development by U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara on November 20, 1962 and was based at the Johnson Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Program 437 used Thor missiles and added booster engines to achieve orbital flights. Eighteen more sub‐orbital and orbital Thor launches took place from Johnston Island during the 1964–1975 periods in support of Program

437. In 1965–1966 four Program 437 Thors were launched with “Alternate Pay‐loads” for satellite inspection from John‐son Island. Two of the four payloads were designated as APX‐1 and APX‐2 both of which carried cameras. These launches were evidently an elaboration of a pro‐posed system to allow visual verification of an in‐space target before potentially destroying it. These flights may have been related to the late 1960s Program 922, a non‐nuclear version of Thor with infrared homing and a high explosive warhead. Care was taken to avoid even the appear‐ance of aiming toward a Soviet satellite.

These were U.S. Air Force missions that evaluated reusable, maneuverable, re‐entry vehicle designs that might be able to fly to a precise landing point on earth.

There were four launches planned from Johnson Island in 1965; three are listed as successful. The first one on December 7, 1965 does not list an outcome. On Decem‐ber 7, 1965 at 19:29 Military Standard Time (MST), the 10 ADS Air Force crew launched Thor missile Number J8‐2299 skyward on an interception azimuth of 153. The target was SPADATS object Num‐ber 613; an expended Atlas Agena rocket body. Interception occurred 8:18 minutes after launching following normal lift‐off, booster separation, flight path assumption, and payload operation. The camera‐bearing capsule registered a miss of .56 nautical miles from the programmed standoff distance of 3.2 nautical miles. All payload functions were performed nor‐mally up to separation except for film cut‐ting and sealing operations.

The failure was academic; however since the ejected film capsule was stated as never recovered and was visible at 19:45 heading for the ocean. The outcome of this mission is a prime candidate for the Kecksburg UFO! There would have been a five hour time difference from Johnson Island to Kecks‐burg Pennsylvania due to daylight savings time in 1965. That would put the reentry vehicle loss at 12:45am eastern standard time on December 8th. Could it stay in orbit for over 39 hours? The answer is yes: it could take two hours to three days to come down from low earth orbit. For example, the December 9, 1965 launch from Vanden‐berg AFB of a Thor Agena‐D took two days to recover after an erratic attitude. More complete analysis is required of the RV/rocket separation which altered descent characteristics since the Air Force said they lost track of it at 7:45pm on December 7th. There is no question that the MK2 RV was capable of extended orbital capabilities and controlled landing. I attended the 50th anniversary UFO festival in Kecksburg in July 2015 where witnesses told their story and I also analyzed the testi‐monials on Stan Gordon’s Kecksburg DVD created in 1998. Although Project Blue Book said that there were only three Air Force personal on site to recover a meteor, numerous civilian witnesses verified that there were as many as 25 armed military personnel present. Project Moon Dust was in place at that time and the response was consistent with this project’s recovery ef‐forts.

Witnesses also said, “It glowed green in the sky, it was a burnt orange color on the ground, the site may be radioactive, there was an arcing blue light coming from the woods, it looked like Egyptian hieroglyphics were welded on a bead in different designs around the base and that four guys in NASA moon suits took a four to five foot box into the area”.

There have been a number of theories over the years to explain Kecksburg:

It makes sense that the December 7, 1965 GE Mark 2 launch in the Pacific was tracked on radar. This explains the military re‐sponse within 30 minutes to the small rural town of Kecksburg. The copper heat shield‐ing would glow green, the stainless steel would turn a burnt orange color, and the technicians on site would wear proper ra‐diation suits and would carry the correct size lead box for a radioactive power source. They may have had to cut the

power source out with a blow torch and walked it out of the woods like the arc of the covenant. They could not risk a radia‐tion leak when exiting a residential area. It was equally as important not to divulge we were spying on Russia.

Since NASA has eliminated the Cosmos 96 probe as the Kecksburg UFO by confirming it came down 13 hours earlier, after our exhaustive research, we are only left with the Bell Project, a Mark 2 failure or a real extraterrestrial UFO. Since NASA was or‐dered by a Federal court to turn over its files on Kecksburg and they responded that the file box was lost, it is doubtful that NASA will confirm or deny our GE Mark 2 theory. Without confirmation from NASA, GE, the Air Force or the Navy, we have the most scientific explanation for Kecksburg but can only add the GE Mark 2 reentry vehicle to the short list of an extraterrestrial craft that maneuvered in the sky and crashed or a government spy reentry vehicle that fired its control jets and minimally crash landed. We be‐lieve a GE Mark 2 RV landed in Kecksburg.

Scientist Researchers Peter Behroozi and Molly Peeples, both of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, Maryland, have suggested Earth‐like planets are let to develop. But when they do, humans will be seen as the aliens in the galaxy that a new extra‐terrestrial species from another world will seek out. The scientists looked at data from the Kepler and Hubble space telescopes to estimate Earth’s position on the timeline of habitable world evolution. Although star formation has slowed down across the uni‐verse, and the amount of gas needed to form new stars in our galaxy the Milky Way is depleted, there is ample left out there. The two calculated only 8% of potentially life‐bearing worlds had formed at the same time or before Earth, meaning there is scope for the other 92% to develop.

The theoretical study published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astro‐nomical Society has concluded it is quite possible after all that "we ARE alone", at the moment. The duo discovered that outside the Milky Way most other galaxy systems have enough star making material for new solar sys‐tems to keep forming for an extremely long time even in cosmic terms. Mr Behroozi said: "Our main motivation was understanding the Earth’s place in the context of the rest of the universe.“Compared to all the planets that will ever form in the universe, the Earth is actually quite early.”Ms Peeples added: “There is enough remaining material (since the Big Bang) to produce even more planets in the future, in the Milky Way and beyond.”

That’s the conclusion drawn by UFO fans after strange groups of lights were seen in newly released NASA images of the Apollo 17 mission. Others suggest it could be something far more boring ‐ such as a distortion in the image, one of thousands released by NASA this week on Flickr. Apollo 17 was the last time Man walked on the moon, in 1972 ‐ the conclusion of America's Apollo space programme. Alien hunter Scott Waring of the UFO blog UFO Sightings Daily is convinced this is ‘proof’ that alien life exists, though. Waring says, ‘All evidence points to this being 100% real guys. By War History Online Emergency crews climb aboard to find not one single person inside the air plane, no trace of any bodily fluid. What they do find are pilot logs, copies of radio transmissions. From the looks of it, the pilot stated that the plane was heavily damaged, the crew was badly hurt, but the plane itself was not damaged at all. Let alone, from what was seen, it was flying and landed itself!

“The gunners were surprised to see a B‐17, wheels down, approaching their positions. As they called in to their operations room, the B17 landed. It bounced to a stop when one wing tip dug into the ground about 30 yards from the AA gun position. One propellor buckled and stopped, the other 3 kept going. John V. Crisp arrived upon the scene 20 minutes after the B17 landed. The propellors continued spinning, but no one had emerged form the plane. Crisp managed to get into the plane and looked around. No one was in there, although there were signs of recent occupation. Crisp managed after some experimenting to get the remain‐der of the engines shut off.

“I looked next at the navigators table,’ Crisp has written. “The aircraft log was open and the last words, written some‐time before were ‘Bad Flak.’

“We now made a through search of the fuselage and found about a dozen para‐chutes neatly wrapped and ready for clipping on. This made the whereabouts of the crew even more mysterious. The Sperry bombsight remained in the Per‐spex nose, quite undamaged, with its cover neatly folded beside it. Back on the navigator’s desk there was the code book giving the colors and letters of the day for identification purposes. Various fur lined flying jackets lay in the fuse‐lage together with a few bars of choco‐late, partly consumed in some cases.”

On checking the planes serial number, they learn that the B17 has come from the 91st BG and the crew is already safe in England. It seems to be a rare thing these days to come across a person who isn’t at least open to the idea of intelligent extraterrestrial life existing somewhere in the universe (or if you prefer, multiverse). In fact, the general consensus within the mainstream scientific community is that we are assuredly not alone; as the Director of Operations for Bigelow Aerospace, Mike Gold, puts it, the universe is most probably “teeming with intelligent extraterrestrial life.” Indeed, not long ago, top U.S astronomers recently testified in front of U.S. congress expressing the same belief. Furthermore, we have a number of scientists, astronomers, astronauts, high ranking military/political personnel, and academicians trying to tell the world that we are not alone, that we never have been, and that intelligent extraterrestrial life has been and is currently visiting our planet and interacting with the human race. It can seem unbelievable, but it’s a serious topic with tremendous implications, but that’s another topic.

“Yes, it’s both. [ET contact is] both literally, physically happening to a degree; and it’s also some kind of psychological, spiritual experience occurring and originating perhaps in another dimension. And so the phenomenon stretches us, or it asks us to stretch to open to realities that are not simply the literal physical world, but to extend to the possibility that there are other unseen realities from which our consciousness, or, if you will, learning processes over the past several hundred years have closed us off.” – John Mack, Harvard Psychologist. Dr. Theodore C. Loder III, Professor Emeritus of Earth Science at the University of New Hampshire, is a great example; he has been telling the world that intelligent beings from other star systems have and are visiting our planet Earth. Dr. Jack Kasher, Professor Emeritus of Physics at the Univer‐sity of Nebraska, has been quoted as saying: “There is another way, whether it’s wormholes or warping space, there’s got to be a way to generate energy so that you can pull it out of the vacuum, and the fact that they’re here shows us that they found a way.”

Roscoe Hillenkoetter, former head of the CIA, is one out of hundreds of ex‐amples that come from personnel within the Department of Defence making the same claims. He was quoted as saying: “Behind the scenes, high ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown fly‐ing objects are nonsense.” When thousands upon thousands of declassified UFO documents from dozens of governments are added to the equation, it’s not hard to see why so many people in ‘high’ places are starting to speak out. Even those within the government are voicing their concern. John Podesta, for example — former White House Chief of Staff for Bill Clinton, Barack Obama’s right hand man (councillor), and the current head of Hilary Clinton’s presidential campaign — has been quoted as saying: “I’m skeptical about many things, including the notion that government always knows best, and that the people can’t be trusted with the truth. The time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue. We have statements from the most credible sources – those in a position to know – about a fascinating phe‐nomenon, the nature of which is yet to be determined”.

This Is What Happens When A “UFO” Is Tracked On Military Radar

To the left you will see a picture of Clark C. McClelland, a former ScO of the Space Shuttle Fleet who claims he personally observed an 8 to 9 foot tall extraterres‐trial (ET) on his monitor while on duty in the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Con‐trol Center (LCC). He claims that the ET was standing upright in the Space Shuttle Payload Bay having a discussion with two tethered US NASA Astronauts. He also claims to have observed (on his monitors) the spacecraft of the ET as it was stabi‐lized safely in orbit to the rear of the Space Shuttle main engine pods. He claims he was part of hundreds of mis‐sions for NASA.

On his website he writes:

How did it communicate? I have no idea. It did move its arms a lot. Almost like giving instructions! I heard no voice com‐munications. The helmet was not as large as our two NASA Astronauts, and had a viewport to look forward.

It had a small, perhaps a communication device, attached only to the right side of the helmet! I saw no oxygen tank(s). It had a wide belt like wrapping around it.. It did not appear to be tethered as the two Astronauts were to the sides of the shuttle structure. I observed nothing that appeared to be a weapon. The time of this amaz‐ing scene was one minute and seven seconds, I timed it on my Astronaut chrono‐graph watch. Below is an illustration of what he (supposedly) saw:

Others have also vouched for Clark, in‐cluding Richard Dolan, one of the world’s leading experts in the field of UFO re‐search; he talks about Clark in this radio interview. Apparently, Clark’s identity has also been verified by Apollo 14 astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell, the 6th man to walk on the moon, in a radio interview that took place with Ross Hemsworth in 2009, but I have been unable to find the source to verify these claims.

His work for NASA cannot seem to be ‘officially verified,’ which is strange. But again, the pictures, and those who have vouched for him, make this an interesting story. He claims that the U.S. govern‐ment stripped him of his pension and his identity as a NASA employee after he spoke out about what he saw. Probably the most important factor (other than the pictures, which clearly look like him) is the number of astronauts (with verified backgrounds that cannot be disputed) who have made comments about intelli‐gent extraterrestrial civilizations.

Below are a few of many examples, the first two come from Dr. Mitchell (as men‐tioned above): “Yes there have been crashed craft, and bodies recovered … We are not alone and they have been coming here for a long time. I happen to be privileged enough to be in on the fact that we have been visited on this planet, and the UFO phenomenon is real, although it’s been covered up by our govern‐ments for quite a long time.” This one comes from former NASA astronaut and Princeton Physics Professor, Dr. Brian O’Leary: “There is abundant evidence that we are being contacted, that civilizations have been visiting us for a very long time, that their appearance is bizarre from any kind of traditional materialistic western point of view, that these visitors use the technologies of consciousness, they use toroids, they use co‐rotating magnetic disks for their propulsion systems, that seems to be a common denominator of the UFO phenomenon”. This one comes from Gordon Cooper, Former NASA astronaut, aeronautical engineer, and test pilot. He was one of the seven original astronauts in Project Mercury, the first manned space program of the United States: “In my opinion I think they were worried that it would panic the public if they knew that someone had vehicles that had this kind of performance … so they started telling lies about it. And then I think they had to cover another lie, you know, tell another lie to cover their first lie, now they don’t know how to get out of it. Now it’s going to be so embarrassing to admit that all these administra‐tions have told a lot of untruths…. [and that] there are a number of extraterrestrial vehicles out there cruising around”.

These are a few out of many examples of statements made by former NASA person‐nel, with verified backgrounds, that make Mcclelland’s story seem more believable. Adding further fuel to the fire are thousands of photos from the Lunar missions have been kept from the public eye. The Russian government recently raised concerns about this, calling for an international investigation into why so much film footage and so many artifacts (lunar rock) and photos have gone missing. Perhaps this is why NASA recently released thousands of never‐seen‐before images from the Apollo missions? Other people who have been involved with NASA are also speaking out. For example, Dr. John Brandenburg, a plasma physicist who was the deputy manager of the Clementine Mission to the moon (the mission that discovered water at the moon’s poles in 1994), has said that we are not alone, and that the mission was really a photo reconnaissance operation to find out what “someone else” was building on the moon.

Again, the list of reasons as to why Mr. McClelland’s story is worth sharing is end‐less, regardless if you think his story is real or not...

In 1990 images emerged of a "secret US military alien autopsy" which was found to be hoaxed. However, an FBI memo that has come under scrutiny following freedom of information requests even suggests each "saucer" contained three bodies of three‐foot tall aliens in the legen‐

dary "alien" incident.

But subsequent FBI pa‐pers dated from 1994 and now released under freedom of information requests, show the agency was apparently so concerned about what else may be contained within the files, it began monitoring the planned opening of the museum in 1994. This further revelation has sent modern‐day conspiracy theo‐rists into overdrive, who now believe there has been a major US government cover up over contact with aliens over several years.

The FBI raised its concerns about the Hakui project in one memo dated Janu‐ary 7 1994, soon before the centre opened, saying the “main attraction” would be the library with the 10,000 documents available to read. The bullet point memo states that the museum official, Toru Wada, said, “In the future, we hope the center will become a focus of international attention in terms of collecting and disseminating informa‐tion on UFOS.” Mr Wada was quoted as saying: “The city has painstakingly ac‐quired the documents over a 10‐year period from such sources as the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).” Also discussed in the memo is Josen Takano, then 38, a municipal employee and UFO enthusiast and investigator who had collected US information on UFOs. The FBI memo added: "Takano said efforts are under way to gather even more information through a network of en‐thusiasts in 12 other countries.” Topse‐cretwriters.com, which writes about conspiracies and cover ups, said: "The memo served to validate the fact that the US government was highly inter‐ested in any type of UFO related activity prior to the creation of Project Blue Book. " The 1994 memo further vali‐dates suspicions that the monitoring of civilian interest and investigations of UFOs was still being carried out." It is not clear if the FBI had any influence over what eventually opened at Hakui, but according to topsecretwriters.com, it does not appear to be as devoted to UFO study as the facility previously being worked on. The centre which opened is called Cosmo Isle Hakui and in a UFO‐shaped building said to house a UFO and NASA Space Research Mu‐seum. But it doesn’t appear to house the in depth research documents it set out to host.

The next day it retracted the statement amid claims it was later identified as a weather balloon. UFO chasers have forever since believed it was a major cover‐up and that the US military actu‐ally discovered the craft and the bodies of alien pilots. The FBI memo now in the spotlight, dated from 1950 ‐ three years after the Roswell incident ‐ said each of three "saucers" contained three bodies of three‐foot tall humanoid occupants, making nine aliens in total. Museum workers stumbled across the document as as they were preparing to open the Hakui Centre for UFO Research in the coastal city of Hakui, 310 miles west of Tokyo, Japan, back in 1994. But it has only come to light again after subse‐quent documents released under the US Freedom of Information Act suggested the FBI was so concerned about the museum opening, it opened up its own file on the proposals. The original 1950 memo suggested the US military found three metallic, saucer‐shaped objects, complete with occupants, near New Mexico, in the USA.

The memo revealed US radar equip‐ment in the area was believed to "have interfered with the saucers and brought them down", according to the Journal Telegraph. It said: "An investigator for the Air Forces states that three so‐called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. "They were described as being circular in shape with raised cen‐tres, approximately 50 ft in diameter. " Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three‐feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. "The single‐page memo begins with the name of the person who fur‐nished the information about the flying saucers blackened out. It said: "According to Mr (blackened out) infor‐mant, the saucers were found in New Mexico due to the fact that the Govern‐ment has a very high‐powered radar set‐up in that area and it is believed the radar interferes with the controlling mechanism of the saucers. No further evaluation was attempted by SA [blackened out] concerning the above. Researchers discover immense pyramid in Mexico, larger than Teotihuacan’s Pyramid of the Sun. Researchers in Mexico have discovered a Pyramid that, according to initial measurements, is larger than the Great Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan. Initial excavations were done in 2010. The Pyramid, 75 meters in height, was explored by specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) on the acropolis of Tonina, Chiapas, esti‐mated to be around 1700 years old. Emiliano Gallaga, director of the ar‐chaeological zone, explained that work has been done in the last two years, and by means of a “three‐dimensional, researchers verified that in the north‐eastern part of the site, stands one of the largest construction in Meso‐america, comparable in size only to great Mayan cities like Tikal and El Mira‐dor in Guatemala. Another features which makes this “unique” pre‐hispanic structure stand out are the seven platforms which integrate it and were specific spaces intended to serve as palaces, temples, housing and adminis‐trative units. It is a unique structure for various specific functions within the social, political, economic and religious structure, which is not repeated in any other archaeological site of the Mayan world stated researchers from INAH. “It’s a big surprise to see that the pyramid was done almost entirely by pre‐Hispanic architects and therefore is more artificial than natural. “This is because it was believed that the entire structure was a natural hill, but re‐cent evidence has revealed that the structure was almost entirely built by ancient inhabitants.

Archaeologists added that the pyramid is bigger than we had anticipated. The structure is connected by roads located on top of surrounding elevations Gallaga added that, after all of the information, we can confirm that this pyramid exceeds in height the pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan which measures 65 meters. INAH researchers have determined that the city center had an architectural continuity between 10 and 12 hectares, which is the double of what was previously thought and mainly corresponds to the south facade of the Acropolis, one of the most important Mayan areas known to researchers.

God: OIC and captain of the Spaceship Heaven. His real alien name is of course Yahweh, or in the vowelless version YHWH, but I'll just shorten that to God, a name that all and sundry recognise. Satan: God's original First Officer and sec‐ond in command of the Spaceship Heaven, later exiled to Hell, or at least to Earth, for mutiny. Fallen Angels: Fallen Angels are those offi‐cers and crew who were in cahoots with Satan in the unsuccessful mutiny against Captain God and who were court‐martialed and stripped of their status and rank and exiled to Hell on Earth. The Seraphim: Because the Seraphim have six wings, they are probably a separate extraterrestrial race aligned with the alien race of beings to which God and company belong. (Well Star Trek exhibited a multi‐species crew from the start.) One such alien was apparently someone called Metatron, an angel who acted as the voice of God', a scribe, and is the tallest and greatest of the lot. He's' sort of the chief cook and bottle washer on the Spaceship Heaven. The Cherubim (singular is cherub): The extraterrestrial Cherubim might be related to the Seraphim in that they are enormous four‐winged beings. The definitive book in the Bible on cherubim is the Book of Eze‐kiel, mainly the first and tenth chapter. Governor or Watcher Angels: These are your typically obedient angels who just sort of watch over humanity in general, a sort of extraterrestrial Peeping Tom some of who had an eye for the Daughters of Men. Archangels: Senior officers of Spaceship Heaven. Those messenger and battle ready angels. The best known of the lot were the archangels who are very high‐ranking an‐gels indeed, starting with Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, but followed by Uriel, Simiel, Orifiel and Zachariel. Angels: Ordinary crewmembers of the Spaceship Heaven, forever running errands for the senior officers. Sons of God: Apparently hand chosen sen‐ior crew members, perhaps literally biologi‐cal offspring of Captain God. The Sons of God were apparently some or all of the Governor or Watcher Angels. Daughters of Men: Human females. Nephilim: The offspring of the Sons of God and the Daughters of Men. They were ap‐parently the giants' referred to in the Earth', though exactly how giant was giant isn't spelled out. Jesus: Another offspring of the Sons of God

It's referred to as the Twin Paradox of Special Relativity, though it's not really a paradox at all, just the logical conclusion of the equations of Special Relativity which have been verified by ob‐servation and experiment, at least on the micro scale. Matthew, Mark, Luke & John: A quartet of roving reporters who independently inves‐tigated what was to them relatively recent history ‐ just several generations had passed ‐ each in his own way. God first had to expel human trespassers after they learned or overheard too much extrater‐restrial knowledge forbidden to terrestrial ears. Later on however God gave Adam an interstellar ride in his Spaceship Heaven. Sodom & Gomorrah: The twin cities were destroyed via fire and brimstone from above, leaving no trace whatever after‐the‐fact. The obviously high tech weaponry might have been incendiary bombs or even nuclear weapons, but it certainly wasn't any sort of destructive weapons technol‐ogy common to that era. Joshua: 1) Was in possession of high tech‐nology sonic weaponry at Jericho. 2) He later witnessed several UFOs that stood still in the sky providing illumination for his army. Enoch and Elijah: These two human males are the only two whose ultimate fate (death) we don't know anything about. Both humans apparently joined the Space‐ship Heaven at the behest of her captain never to be seen again, albeit Elijah was spotted with Jesus by three of his disciples (see Transfiguration). Old Age Pensioners: Methuselah, Noah, Adam as well as others, apparently lived to really, really ripe old ages, way, way, way beyond the standard three score and ten. The explanation: these were humans in‐vited by the officers and crew of Spaceship Heaven to take a relativistic interstellar journey at velocities at a considerable frac‐tion of the speed of light. Title: The Secret History of The Gnostics Author: Andrew Philip Smith Publisher: Watkins ISBN: 978‐1‐78028‐821‐5 Price: £10.99 This first class new book is one of several dealing with the ever‐mysterious and poorly understood subject of Gnosticism. The difference is that this one is actually both readable and extremely informative. In fact the author shows in the first few pages just how Gnostic beliefs have percolated their way into mainstream culture via a variety of unlike sources. Chief amongst these has been in literary works like, amongst others, Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ and in iconic films like the ‘Matrix’ series. The author also (and very helpfully) explains exactly what is meant by ‘Gnostic’ and ‘Gnosticism’, which at its core is the desire of the individual to discover his own personal God and develop his own view of reality.

Also covered are the horrendous trials and tribulations faced by the early Gnostics like the Cathars and the Bogomils, both of whom were ruthlessly sup‐pressed by the Catholic Church in a spectacularly brutal fashion, much as some branches of Islam still viciously persecute those who disagree with their teachings. The fact that Gnosticism still survives in various forms today is a testament to its open and fair minded approach to spirituality; which the book explains (especially their beliefs and traditions) in fascinating detail. This book is a splendid introduction for anyone wishing to increase their understanding of the subject and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Once again Self Made Hero present another absolute gem of a graphic novel, this time featuring the travails for three slackers who spend most of their time high as kites on an unlikely mixture of wax and narcotic wall insulation, Yes, it’s that kind a dark, off‐the‐wall combination of blacker‐than‐black humour and urban horror that was typified in the unnerving work of Irvine Welsh. Imagine ‘Trainspotting’ on steroids and L.S.D. and you get the picture.

The plot? Well, it concerns Carlisle, who lives with three slacker flatmates in a flat owned by their landlord, the toxic Mr Stapleton and his equally malign son. By helping another dweller in the block of flats the group incur the wrath of Mr Stapleton The publicity describes the book as ‘more sewer pipe than kitchen sink’, and it is absolutely right and due to the combined skills of the writer, Si Spencer, and the unique talents of the illustrator, Dix, this is a superb work of surreal and inventive menace and well worth the ticket price.

This important, new, scholarly and eminently readable book from Andrew Philip Smith is designed as a companion piece to equally fascinating, ‘The Secret History of The Gnostics’ from the same author. In this book, Smith achieves the difficult feat of rendering a work that is both well‐researched and informative, but at the same time eminently approachable. The author takes the reader on a fascinating journey of exploration and succeeds in revealing the truth about the Cathars and how they func‐tioned, but also shows in unflinching detail the vicious and spiteful suppression they suffered at the hands of an embittered medieval Catholic Church and the hated Inquisition was only a part of it.

From what the author reveals this is hardly surprising, since, by their simple piety, the Cathars offered both another interpretation of scripture and simulta‐neously just how shamelessly corrupt, venal and hypocritical the medieval Catholic Church actually was. The author traces the history of the Cathars and their dualistic beliefs from their Mandean and Bogomil origins to their final, bloody denouement following a decades long crusade against them at their mountaintop fortress of Montsegeur. Although this event more or less finished them as an organised group, oddly enough some of their customs still find resonances with other, single minded religious sects such as Opus Dei and rather more worryingly, Islamic factions like ISIS and al Qaeda. This book makes a vital contribution to the corpus of knowledge about the mysteries and practises of the Cathars and richly deserves a place in the bookshelf of anyone who desires a deeper knowledge of this group. Both, The Secret History of the Gnostics ‐ Their Scriptures, Beliefs and Traditions and The Lost Teachings of the Cathars ‐ Their Belief and Practices are books well worth purchasing. I am aware of both books and believe they are excellently written and deserve a place on your bookshelf (Steve Mera PM).

If you can recall the original version of this using the, at the time spectacular, stop motion effects created by Ray Harryhausen (remember the fight with the skeletons)? then this will jog some memories, but the special effects are so much better. Set in the Ancient Greece of 2000 years ago, this is an Emmy nominated, made for TV mini‐series and the plot is pretty much the same as the film with Jason trying to reclaim his birthright, the throne, from his villainous uncle and being sent to retrieve the most powerful artefact of the age, the legendary gift from the Gods, the Golden Fleece.

The tale shows him, accompanied by his faithful crew of Argonauts, set off aboard their ship while encountering a variety of mythical beasts, dragons, clashing rocks along the way. Not to mention the fact that the Gods, Zeus and Hera, occasionally meddle in his exploits. However he finally obtains the fleece and after more battles reclaims the throne. All good stuff that, for a change, all the family can enjoy; this would make the ideal stocking filler for Christmas.

This film, which opens in 1961, charts the almost unstoppable career of two of the most violent thugs ever to disgrace the street of East Lon‐don. It begins with a man being beaten senseless by the young Krays and continues in a similar vein for a fair bit of the running time. Anyone who falls for the line that the notorious and brutal Kray brothers only harmed those who opposed them is due for a rude awakening, for this fearless film (made by the team who brought us The Rise of The Foot Soldier, another searing gangster opus) quickly kicks that idea into the long grass.

Special mention must go to Simon Cotton who plays the part of the schizophrenic and psychotic Ronnie Kray with great skill, and shows just how twisted and evil he was as he and his brother started to carve out a place in the east London underworld. Drugs, protection, prostitution, clubs, it was all part and parcel of their criminal empire. The film also tells of Ronnie’s potentially damaging homosexual affair with the bisexual Lord Bob Boothby, a senior Tory MP. It was this relationship and the protection that Boothby supplied (along with the collusion of others in government) that delayed their arrest for several years. This is the first of two film documenting the rise and fall of the twins, based on what I have seen do far I look forward to the next offering with great anticipation,

Writer/director Christopher P. Garetano’s arch pseudo‐documentary THE MONTAUK CHRONICLES has existed in various forms and cuts for almost five years. Screened publicly in 2012, Garetano kept obsessively tinkering with the film, adding footage, re‐structuring and delaying its official release time and time again. Of course, for those that were following its stop‐and‐start existence, the behind the scenes drama only added to the myth of the film and drew attention the shadowy conspiracies it aims to investigate. Now, New Yorkers will have the chance to catch the world premiere of the current – and purportedly final – cut, screening as part of the Third Annual Phillip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival, this Saturday at 5 p.m. at The Producer’s Club.

Your interest in THE MONTAUK CHRONICLES depends mightily on your interest in conspiracy theories, alien insurgence and other things charted nightly on syndicated radio shows like COAST TO COAST. The film tells the tale of long dormant Long Island military based Camp Hero, a near century‐old spot that was at the center of some very eerie reported occurrences in the 1970’s involving mind experiments, Alien examinations, torture and time travel. Garetano uses the recollections of three men: Alfred Bielek, Stewart Swerdlow and Preston Nichols who all swear they saw the unseeable and were subjected to the unspeakable while locked within the subterranean confines of Camp Hero. If you buy their wild tales of the fantastic, then you’ll be riveted by THE MONTAUK CHRONICLES. If you think its all bunk, you’ll raise an eyebrow and roll an eyeball at the way Garetano (who is in the movie as well) earnestly follows their leads and frames their stories. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be equally as glued to the screen. It’s not clear whether or not Garetano believes that anything really happened at Camp Hero, but he uses the story to flex his own phantasmagorical visions and, my God, what visions they are…

Anyone who has seen Garetano’s short film COTTONMOUTH (in which this writer provided some of the music) knows that the filmmaker has a deft eye for nightmarish, fetishized visuals. When THE MONTAUK CHRONICLES breaks from meticulously shot talking head footage, Garetano launches into long, visionary and often utterly horri‐fying realizations of the trio’s tall tales. Scenes of exploding liquids, tormented victims and fanged, drooling extraterrestrials accompanied by a dense sound design are passages that won’t soon leave your mind. By the time the film wraps, many questions are asked about the dirty deeds done and no matter your take, Garetano’s intelli‐gent sense of cinema is a force to be reckoned with, and his ability to visualize the stuff nightmares are made of is peerless. This is a fascinating, strange film about a fascinating, strange series of events made by an artist who has little interest in playing by the rules.
