HOW TO APPLY
The candidate is required to register and fill the application online from September 27, 2013 toOctober 21, 2013 by accessing http://pgadm.iitr.ernet.in and after finalizing, download the online filled applicationand Bank Challan simultaneously, then the requisite fee of Rs. 200/- for GEN/OBC and Rs. 100/- for SC/ST/PDcategory candidates must be deposited in any branch of State Bank of India throughout the country through Bankchallan on next working day of finalization of online application and or before the last date i.e. October 22, 2013.The Bank Challan will be printed in triplicate. Bank will retain a copy and will return two copies to you. In those twocopies, retain the Candidates copy with you and attach the IITRs copy with the print out of downloaded applicationform.

1. THE INSTITUTE
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is the latestmember of the IIT family and has its roots in theRoorkee College established in 1847 as the firstengineering college in India, which was soonrechristened as Thomason College of CivilEngineering in 1854 after its greatest mentor JamesThomason. After about 100 years of distinguishedservices, the college was elevated to University of
Roorkee as the first Engineering University ofindependent India on November 25, 1949. It has now23 academic departments/centres offering 11undergraduate courses in engineering andarchitecture, 5 dual degree programmes and 6Integrated Dual Degree courses in M.Sc./Engineeringand over 52 postgraduate courses in engineering,architecture, sciences, computer applications andbusiness administration besides researchprogrammes at doctoral level. It has three campuses,main campus at Roorkee and other two atSaharanpur and Greater Noida
IIT Roorkee has a highly qualified and motivatedfaculty of about 390 members who are engaged inresearch and consultancy in addition to teaching. Thefaculty members offer their expertise throughconsultancy services to private/public sectorindustries as well as to Government agencies. Theinstitute has about 4300 undergraduate students,2130 postgraduates and Over 1425 researchscholars.
There are a number of academic and researchcentres engaged in interdisciplinary research, andmany collaborative programmes exist with institutionsin India and abroad. Several central facilities exist
such as Mahatma Gandhi Central Library havingmore than 3.65 lac volumes of books and periodicals,Information Superhighway Centre with Internetconnectivity, an Educational Multi-Media ResearchCentre with full-fledged television studio, a modernComputer Centre and Institute Instrumentation Centrewith highly sophisticated analytical instruments.
The Institute prepares students to meet ever-increasing technological and social challenges with itstraditions of self-discipline, hard work, all-roundpersonality development and innovative approach toproblems.
IIT Roorkee is fully residential, with well-designedhostels (Bhawans) both for boys and girls, sprawlingsports ground, hobbies club, Hospital, a modernswimming pool, boat club and a host of facilities fordifferent games including Tennis, Squash andBilliards. Societies and Associations along withactivities like NCC, Rangering and Rovering,Mountaineering and Trekking provide excellentopportunities for self-development.
2. ROORKEE TOWN
Roorkee, a quiet town of moderate size in the districtof Hardwar (Uttarakhand), is located on the banks ofthe Upper Ganga Canal, which takes off at Hardwar.It is about 30 km south of the Shivalik range of themighty Himalayas, about 170 km to the north of Delhiand is situated on the Amritsar-Howrah main railwayline. Roorkee is linked by rail to many important megacities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai.
Roorkee is also well connected by road, beinglocated on the Delhi-Hardwar National Highway (NH58), and on the Roorkee Panch Kula Highway (NH
73). Roorkee (Latitude 29o 52 N and Longitude 77o5352" E) is 268 m above mean sea level and has acold winter. The summer months, though hot, aremoderated by the proximity of the Shivaliks. The rainyseason is mainly between July and September withan average rainfall of 1050 mm.
Roorkee town is an important centre of engineeringactivity. Apart from the IIT Roorkee, which is situatedin a 150-hectare campus, Roorkee also has theCentral Building Research Institute, the National
Institute of Hydrology, the Irrigation ResearchInstitute, the Irrigation Design Organization, theheadquarters of Bengal Engineering Group & Centrealong with an important Army base.
The Institute campus is 2.5 km from the RoorkeeRailway Station and is only 200 m from theRoadways Bus Stand.
3. CENTRAL FACILITIES AND CENTRE OFEXCELLENCE
EM2RC
The EM2
RC provides valuable resource material forhigher education and mass communication. Theprogramme produced at the centre are televisedunder the UGCs Country Wide Classroomprogrammes. The Doordarshan National TV Networktelecasts these programmes.
The centre undertakes research aspects of
educational technology in relation to learning in
diverse age groups for both urban and rural
population, in various disciplines. It invites faculty
from within the Institute, other Colleges, Universities
and Institutions for the production of programmes and
software transfer.
Institute Instrumentation Centre
The Institute Instrumentation Centre has awide range of analytical facilities for processing andcharacterizing materials. These facilities are availablefor use by researchers (students/faculty) in bothacademia and industry not only for the academiccommunity of IIT Roorkee, but also to variousresearch organizations and industries across thenation.

This centre provides modern facilities for advancedmaterials processing and characterization. Thefacilities include well established Nanoscience whichconsists of state of the art nanomaterials synthesisfacilities laboratory (Sputtering and Pulse LaserDeposition Technique for Nano-materials synthesis).More details are available on the website. IIC isequipped with more than twenty specialized andsophisticated equipments for analysis and solution ofintricate scientific and industrial problems. Theseinclude, among others, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance(NMR), Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometer(TIMS), Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA),Macromolecular Crystallographic Unit (MCU) forprotein crystallography (All the required facilities forcloning to crystallization are available), X-RayFluorescence Spectrometer (WDS-XRF), Powder X-Ray Diffractometer (Powder-XRD), Glancing angleXRD, Single crystal XRD, Scanning ProbeMicroscope (SPM), Field Emission ScanningElectron Microscope (FE-SEM), 200 KV TransmissionElectron Microscope (TEM), Scanning ElectronMicroscope (SEM), Superconducting Quantum
Interference Device (SQUID) Magnetometer,Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), Atomic
Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), FluorescenceLife Time System, Inductively Coupled Plasma MassSpectrometer (ICP-MS) attached with Laser Ablation,Differential Thermal and Thermo Gravimetric
Analyzer (DTA/TGA). Each laboratory generally hasan operator working under the supervision of a facultymember or a scientific officer. Besides these, theCentre includes a training laboratory for summertraining of the engineering students.
Area of Research:
There are two faculty members each having severalsponsored projects and research programmes in theareas of Magnetic Multilayes/Heterostructures,MEMS Devices, Thin Film Solar Cells, FunctionalNanomaterials, Molecular Crystallography/Bioinformatics, and Geo Physics.
Institute Computer Centre
The Centre works towards the common goal ofimplementing the academic agenda of the Institute byconstantly interacting, evaluating and updating theresources to meet the international standards. ICC isplaying the major role of a central facilitator tostudents and faculty members who are intenselyengaged in research activities. It is making availableon appropriately high-end hardware platform, thelatest scientific and engineering computing softwareto the research community.
Computing Resources: ICC, a central computing facility, is equipped forHigh Performance Computing, which includesinfrastructure for Cluster Computing, besides high-
end Servers and Workstations on heterogeneousplatforms. Centre has a wide range of servers from Intelprocessor based ones to high-end RISC servers fromHP, SUN, IBM, SGI and NAS (Network AttachedStorage) servers of 2x1.6 TB (terabytes) capacity.Blade servers for computational requirement andsoftware services at the central facility in hp c7000blade system. SAN System with FC connectivity toblade system hp c7000. ICC has state-of-the-art facilities for applicationssuch as: CAD/MCAD, Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD), FEM & FEA, Image Processing / ScientificVisualization, 3DAnimation/Visual Simulation/Geospatial imaging and analysis. It has mid-range to high-end configured graphicsworkstations with MIPS R16000 64 bit RISC based(SGI)/ 64 bit Quad-core Intel Xeon (Dual CPU) / 64 bitQuad Core Xeon (Dual CPU) / Core 2 Duo (Dualcore) /PIV EM64T CPUs/AMD Opteron; GPUOptimized High Performance & Graphics Workstation(Supermicro 7046A-HR+) with NVIDIA Tesla forscientific/engineering computation and research in
the area of GP GPU and HPC based applications. Linux based HPC Cluster and all the other serverscan be accessed within the campus including DPTSaharanpur Campus through campus LAN.Major Engineering and Scientific softwareresources:ICC not only delivers the computing environment on24x7 basis with remote access facility but has alsoestablished in a short span of time one of the bestrepositories of latest scientific and engineeringcomputing software in any of the technical institutesin India. Computing Environment and Access Timings: The Centre maintains a comfortable environment,conducive for research & training for both studentsand faculty. Dedicated systems with specialized softwarerequired by students of M.Tech, and Ph.D scholarsduring their dissertation/thesis period in the ResearchScholars lab at ICC. These are high- endworkstations with multi-core with high processingspeed and high capacity memory and graphicsadaptors in network with remote access facility on365x24x7 basis. Scientific and engineering softwarelicenses being served through servers at ICC. Short term training programmes /workshop/seminarfor students, faculty members and office staff are alsobeing organized by the centre. It has eight job-specific labs with about 250desktops/thin clients of latest configuration in100/1000 mbps CAT 6 based structured networkhaving gigabit managed switches with internetconnectivity at every system. Computer Centre runs in two shifts from Monday toFriday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM and on Saturdayand Sunday 8:45 AM to 11:00 PM.
It is rendering services all 7 days/week. Computingand software license serving facilities are available on24x7 basis within the campus including DPTSaharanpur.
Information Superhighway Centre
The Information Superhighway Centre(ISC) wasestablished in March 1996. It is the nodal centre foroutside/inside connectivity to the campus and servesas an Information Technology Center for promotingthe effective use of IT, IT Systems, resource
management and facilities for modernization/automation of the IP Infrastructure of the Campus
The Institute has a star topology Gigabit EthernetSwitch based, state-of-the-art Enterprise classnetwork with data, voice and video communicationcapabilities. All department and Centres areconnected to the Information Superhighway throughOptical Fiber. The network covers 365 acres of areathrough 35 Km of OFC and 70 km of CAT6/E CAT 5
UTP, connecting all Departments/Centres, Hostelsand Saharanpur Campus. The Intranet has 6000+wired-line I/Os and 3200+ points through Wirelessaccess, providing internet/intranet, and e-mail facilityto all faculty, students, staff, library, and laboratories.
All research scholar Hostels have wired line internetconnectivity in each room. Under Graduate/Graduatehostels have Cyber caf equipped with 20 desktop forinternet connectivity in addition to 802.11g Wi-Finetwork Internet/Intranet connectivity in each room.New Hostels at IIT Roorkee main campus andSaharanpur campus have Wire-Line connectivity ineach room.
Institute has 1 Gbps internet lease line link ofNational Knowledge Network (NKN) from NICunder MHRD Govt of India initiative. 100 Mbpsinternet leased line link from TATA Communication,New Delhi, 100 Mbps internet leased line link fromBSNL Haridwar 2 Mbps Lease Line link from ERNETIndia, New Delhi. 34 Mbps dedicated leased line(RailTel) in a close group to Saharanpur Campus.
Above Facilities through the Centre is being usedextensively by the faculty and the students for theireducational and research needs and provides anavenue for the exchange of Information with otherlibraries and the centres of research and education.
The ISC also has an Information ManagementGroup(IMG) which is managed and run solely byB.Tech. students for developing website and intranetapplications.
Quality Improvement Programme Centre
The Government of India has launched the Quality
Improvement Programme in the 1970-71. One of the
main objectives of the programme is to upgrade the
expertise and capabilities of the faculty members of
the degree level engineering colleges/ institutions of
the country. Since 1994-95, the programme is being
implemented and monitored by All India Council forTechnical Education. In Quality Improvement
Programme only sponsored teachers are eligible for
admission to both Masters and Doctoral Degree
Programmes, with the aim to enable them to acquire
Masters/Doctoral degrees and imbibe in them a
culture of research and better teaching capabilities by
exposing them to the environment of a higher level
institute.

The Programme was launched to improve the overall
quality of technical education in the degree level
engineering colleges/institutes. It was anticipated that
placing the teachers on the campus of these institutes
of excellence including 7 IITs, and Indian Institute of
Science, Bangalore, will expose them to an altogether
different environment of sophisticated infrastructure
and to improve the standard of technical education in
their own institute.
Mahatma Gandhi Central Library
The library serves as a central organ of the academic
activities of the Institute. To this end, it continues to
fulfill its obligations in providing necessary
infrastructure facilities in the form of books, advanced
treatises, works of reference and bibliographical
nature, current and back volumes of journals, theses,
CD-ROMS, e-journals, e-databases, e-books and
other kinds of monographs to its members. It has well
bound collection of more than 3.65 lakh volumes to
meet the growing and varied requirements of its
clientele consisting of undergraduate and
postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty
members. The library strives to provide physical
facilities with calm and cozy atmosphere conductive
to study for long hours. It subscribes to over 800
current journals in all branches of Engineering,
Physical Sciences, Bio-Sciences and Humanities &
Social Sciences. Besides this the library provides
access to e-resources including more than 13,000 e-
journals and 30,000 e-books published by major
science and technology publishers of the world. All
the e-resources of the library are available throughout
the campus on Institute network. Library also
maintains 5 LCDs, 7 servers and more than 100Desktop PCs on its Local Area Network. Forty seven
CCTV cameras have been recently installed at
various places of the library. The Mahatma Gandhi
Central Library has been provided with latest RFID
technology with self issue/return facility for the users.
Mahatma Gandhi Central Library building is one of
the most beautiful buildings in the country. It is a
state-of-the-art facility fully air-conditioned which
provides the best possible environment to the
students and faculty. It occupies an area of over
90,000 sq.ft. Ample sunlight through dome and
skylight provision, state-of-the-art cabling for internet
and light, fire services, cyber rooms, open terminal,wi-fi environment are some of the main features. A
separate reading room with 80 seating capacity for
using personal books is a unique feature. The Central
Library is on its way to provide library services in such
a way that Saakaar becomes Niraakaar and believe
in becoming pro-active rather than providing services
on demand.

1. Centre for Transpor tation Systems (CTRANS)
CTRANS is a Centre of Excellence of IIT Roorkee in
the area of Transportation Systems with an aim to
promote multidisciplinary and high quality research
and education in Transportation Systems with
collective participation of Engineers, Scientists and
Researchers from Science & Technology, Humanities
and Social Sciences of the Centre, Architecture &
Planning and Management background. Theresearch areas are Public Transport System Highway
& Airfield Pavement Management System, Intelligent
Transport System, Design of Comfort (Rail
Transport), Environmental Management, Biofuels for
Automobiles, Traffic Emission Modelling, Air Quality
Modeling, Mathematical Modelling, Supply Chain

Technology, Remote Sensing, GPS & GIS
Applications, Health Hazard in Transportation
System, Inland Navigation & Water Transport,

Centre is equipped with a number of modern
equipments i.e., Road Measuring Data Acquisition
System (ROMDAS), Portable Automatic Traffic
Counter-cum-Classifier, Trimble IR 5600 Robotic
Total Station, Electrodymic Vibration System, Falcon
Handheld Stationary Radar with Data Logger and
measurement of vehicular speeds, Integrating-
averaging noise level meter, 50" Plasma TV for
Traffic Analysis study, Portable Falling Weight
Deflectometer, Diamond Core Drilling System,
Portable Reference Measurement System etc. The
Centre has Sound Plan, HEADS, TRANSCAD,
VISSUM & VISIM softwares for a variety of
transportation system problem analysis. The Centre
has a good computing facility for modelling and
simulation of transportation systems. A multi-
Institutional Nationally Co-ordinated Project entitled
Integrated Development of Public Transport System
Sponsored by AICTE is executed at this Centre. A
R&D Project on Design and Analysis of Urban
Multimodal Mass Transportation System sanctioned
by DST, Gol is under progress. CTRANS is also
offering advice and Consultancy Services. TheCTRANS is providing consultancy services for the
RSVY Project of CPWD on Development of State
Highways in Bihar State. The Ministry of Road
Transport and Highways, Govt. of India has
established Professorial Chair at CTRANS.
2. Centre for Disaster Mitigation and
Management
The Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation &
Management was established at IIT Roorkee in

March 2006 to initiate multidisciplinary studies &
national capacity building in Disaster Mitigation and
Management. Initially, focus is on natural/man-made
disasters. The Core faculty group and facilities are
drawn from the participating departments.
The CENTRE is devoted to human resource
development; R&D activities leading to Ph.D. degree;
disseminates technical know how; provides extension
services; evolves strategies for mitigation and
management of disasters and establish a nationaldatabase for rapid dissemination of information and
knowledge. The centre is also engaged in running
M.Tech. programmes in Disaster Mitigation and
Management.
3. Centre for Nanotechnology
Centre for Nanotechnology was established in
December 2005 as one of the Centres of Excellence.
The faculty of the centre, drawn from different
departments is involved in developing state-of-the-art
facilities at the Institute and is vigorously pursuing
interdisciplinary research on various current aspects
of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. For thispurpose the Institute has granted ten MHRD
assistantships to the centre. A wide range of
sophisticated equipment related to Nanotechnology
has been made operational at IIC involving the
multidisciplinary faculty of the centre.
In view of the major impact of Nanoscience in vast
disciplines of Science and Technology, M.Tech.
program on Nanotechnology had started in 2008.
This course aims at providing the basic knowledge to
B.Tech./M.Sc. students about various concepts of
nanoscale materials, their synthesis, characterization,
novel properties, applications and future
perspectives. This being a multidisciplinary area, a
number of electives have been designed to impart-
knowledge on Nanoscale modeling and simulation,
Nanophysics, Nanochemistry, Nanobiotechnology,
Nanomedicine and technological aspects of
nanomaterials. Besides, it is providing students a
practical training on advanced methods being
employed for the synthesis, characterization and
elucidation of different nanostructures. This expertise
could be utilized to fabricate new Nanomaterials and
Nanodevices for various applications.

Alternate Hydro Energy Centre established in the

AHEC offers research in the area of small hydropower : Optimization of civil structures, hydroulicturbines, induction generators, power systemsplanning, distributed energy; solar energy, biomassenergy, waste-to-energy, integrated renewable andhybrid energy systems.The research areas in the field of environment are :water quality modelling, environmental managementof rivers and lakes and GHG emissions fromreservoirs.

EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING
Earthquake Engineering Education in India started atthe Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (erstwhileUniversity of Roorkee) in 1960, through theestablishment of School of Research and Training inEarthquake Engineering. The School was renamedas Department of Earthquake Engineering andbecame an integral part of the University of Roorkeein 1979. Four major areas of earthquake engineering
namely, Structural Dynamics, Soil Dynamics,Engineering Seismology and Seismotectonics, andInstrumentation have been nurtured for the pastabout fifty years. The major functions of theDepartment include teaching and research, andrendering expert advice to various organizations inthe area of earthquake resistant design of structuresand systems, such as dams, bridges, power plants,etc. The Department has played a key role at thenational level in formulating Indian Standard Codes ofPractice for earthquake resistant design of structures.Several major facilities exist in the Department forconducting experiments related to earthquake
engineering. Some of the major facilities include: Alow cost railway wagon Shock Table for dynamictesting of structural models up to 20 tonnes weight, a3.5 m x 3.5 m computer controlled Shake Table witha maximum pay-load capacity of 20 tonnes tosimulate Strong Ground Motion, a Quasi StaticTesting Laboratory having servo-controlled dynamicactuator systems and servo-controlled compressiontesting machine of 300 tonnes capacity, a SoilDynamics Laboratory equipped with liquefactiontable, geotechnical centrifuge and cyclic triaxialtesting system, and a Seismological Observatory
having state of the art 3-component broadbandseismograph to record local, regional and tele-seismic earthquakes. Department has deployed aStrong Motion Network of 300 digital accelerographsin the Himalayan region covering seismic zones V, IVand parts of zone III for the purpose of measuringstrong ground motion in the event of majorearthquakes and a state-of-the-art 12-stationtelemetered network deployed in the GarhwalHimalaya to continuously monitor the localearthquakes around Tehri Dam.

It shall evince the candidatescapacity for critical examination and sound judgementand shall represent original contribution to theexisting knowledge. The Institute is also recognisedas one of the centres in the country for Ph.D.programmes under QIP.

7. ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY
(1) An applicant belonging to the above admissioncategories in 6 should possess the followingqualifications in appropriate areas to be eligible toapply for admission for the Ph.D. programme of theInstitute.
(a) Masters degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/ Urban & Rural Planning /Pharmacy / Computer Applications of 3 years
duration after graduation, in respective disciplineor equivalent with a minimum Cumulative GradePoint Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 pointscale or equivalent as determined by theInstitute wherever letter grades are awarded; or60% marks in aggregate (of all theyears/semesters) where marks are awarded.
Such candidates should have qualified GATEprior to admission to M.Tech/M.Arch orthereafter (GATE score may or may not be valid)or UGC/CSIR NET wherever applicable.Thiscondition shall not be applicable to SponsoredResearch Scholars/ Part-Time Research

(2) The admission eligibility requirements may be
relaxed to 5.5 on a 10 point scale or equivalent, or
55% marks to the following categories:
a. SC/ST candidates with Masters degree.
b. Academic staff of the Institute who has an
experience of more than 5 years.
c. Preference given to the candidates who
possess M.Tech/M.Sc. degrees from IITs/IISc
will be as to follows:
Candidates with M.Tech. degree in
Engineering or M.Arch. having a CGPA of
7.50 or more from IITs/IISc be called for
interview and recommendations for their
admission will be sent separately by the
departments without taking into account their
merit with candidates from other institutions.
Candidates with M.Sc./M.Tech. degree in
Sciences having a CGPA of 8.00 or more
from IITs/IISc be called for interview and

(3) Eligibility for Part-time Ph.D.
a) The applicant possesses the minimum entry
qualifications for the degree as given in 7(1);
b) The applicant proves that his official duties
permit him to devote sufficient time to research;
c) He / She will be required to reside at the Institute
for a period of not less than 6 months during
his/her registration for the degree. (Thiscondition of minimum residence period will be
automatically waived for candidates who are
working in Roorkee or in Organizations /
institutions located within a distance of 100 km
from the Institute).
d) The facility of part time registration will also be
available to all employees of the IIT Roorkee or
candidates working in organizations having MoU
with IITR or organizations approved by IIT
Roorkee as Research Centres. Such applicants

are exempted from the requirement of having
valid GATE/NET/GPAT.
e) The applicants must have experience of two
years after qualifying degree and also have
continuous service with the sponsoring
organization for at least two years at the time
of submitting the application form for
admission.
f) The candidates working in Institute/University
awarding Ph.D. degree itself are not eligible foradmission as part-time candidate.
g) Employee seeking admission to the Ph.D.
programme with minimum of two years service in
an organization or confirmed regular employee
may obtain and submit No Objection Certificate
from the employer to the effect that the duties
allotted by the employer will allow the required
time for this pursuit.
(4) Eligibility fo r Foreign Nationals
a) The applicant possesses the minimum entryqualifications for the degree as given in 7(1);
b) Foreign nationals seeking admission to Ph.Dprogrammes should apply through the Govt. ofIndia, if they wish to come through any Govt.supported programmes or under CulturalExchange Programmes, or through EducationalConsultants (India) Ltd., New Delhi. They mayseek necessary help from the Indian Embassy intheir country or their Embassy in India. In additionto these avenues, a provision of direct admissionfor Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and self-financing Foreign National candidates exists for
Ph.D. degree programmes.c) Foreign nationals are required to undergo
medical examination as per medical rules of theMinistry of Human Resource Development, andhave to undergo test for HIV at NICD, Delhi withinone month of their admission. The admission offoreign nationals would be confirmed only aftermedical examination and the receipt of the testreport regarding HIV.
d) Foreign nationals will be admitted only afterobtaining the clearance from the Govt. of India.Foreign candidates having students/provisionalstudents visa only are eligible for admission.
For NRI and Self Financing Foreign NationalsNon-Resident Indian (NRI) nationals residing andstudying abroad and self-financing, non-sponsoredforeign nationals who are interested in obtainingadmission are eligible for admission subject tomedical and Government clearances as per Section7.4.
Foreign candidates including NRI and Self FinancingForeign nationals must have fulfilled the following :
(i) Qualifications equivalent to educationalqualifications required for admission to Ph.Dprogrammes as per section 11.
(ii) The candidates must have a minimum of twoyears of full-time work experience in a relevantfield after the qualifying degree
(iii) Certificate of good conduct and character fromthe Head of Institution last attended,
(iv) TOEFL with average of 70 out of 120 or IELTS
with 6 on 9 point scale as proof of proficiency inEnglish.
(v) Three reference letters.
(5) Application Process
For admission to Ph.D programmes for Spring
Semester of the session 2013-14 candidates
need to register and fill the application from
27.09.2013 ONLINE only by accessing the
website http://pgadm.iitr.ernet.in on or before
October 21, 2013. The application process is
complete only when a print out of the filled
ONLINE application with the candidatessignature, downloaded IITR copy of bank challan
and a good quality photo affixed in the
appropriate places is sent to the Chairman, PG
Admissions Office, IIT Roorkee, Roorkee -
247 667, Uttarakhand along with necessary
documents on or before October 25, 2013.
(6) HOW TO APPLY

10. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
