Phase 4: MAKING Jennifer Dai
Sketch Modelling: full-size or scale models that capture the embryonic/initial stage ideas arising from the design team’s concept development. Appearance Modelling:
The appearance model closely simulates the look of a production product. Used to communicate designs to clients or users.
Experience Prototyping:
The experience prototyping is a simulation of the service experience that foresees some of its performances.
Concept: Connect-a-Corner
Connect-a-Corner is a series of hubs located on street corners outside of NYC colleges with a larger counterpart construct inside the college buildings as well.
The physical structure is of a dissected corner, creating a tent-like space that will be intriguing to students and passerby, with a wifi signal on the exterior to lure them in as it emits an inviting atmosphere.
Concept: Connect-a-Corner
Each hub will have a different theme inside:
● The #URL-TO-IRL Corner, to cultivate a safe and comfortable
place for online friends to meet up without any awkwardness ● The #Music Corner, create digital playlists (spotify channels
displayed on screens) for everyone in the corner to follow+find/follow other people- plug in earphones to share a listen with someone-browse through music events to find friends to go with
● The #Foodie Corner, Upload #foodie pics on instagram on the screens inside-gain followers/browse/find and make friends- turn followers into friends
● The #Design Corner, showcase student and local art, browse/find art events, upload art onto screens inside-follow social media channels of artists and self-promote
Brainstorming
Dissecting a corner+placing each section on opposite street corners (next to/around traffic lights) to stimulate conversation and interaction amongst people
Enclosed physical space with alluring wifi signs to provoke people to enter
ELIMINATE/MINIMISE SMALL TALK- GET TO THE REAL TALK
Key Insights:
This was a very stimulating visualisation technique- we can picture how our design will help with connecting in the city.
This helped us to visualise the interior and exterior of our concept.
Brainstorming of physical spaces and constructs helped us be creatively inspired by public areas e.g. street corners, shared public areas outside of colleges.
