View From the Bridge Commander Egbert Most, SN [email protected] 203-264-6678 It has been way too long since we last had a meaningful activity going on in our Squadron. Limited get-togethers on the water, only one membership meeting, a beautiful Oktoberfest, at Karen’s and Paul’s home in October, and no Education courses or seminars. This is the time of our yearly cycles, when we traditionally get together to paint our faces green, dig out those green sweaters, eat and drink green, and enjoy the camaraderie to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, inside where it’s warm, while we bid adieu to the winter doldrums. We certainly have been “blessed” with a little bit more than in the recent past with the “other” tradition of winter in New England, the “white stuff.” Some of us enjoy being outdoors in the snow and ice, skiing, snowshoeing or skating. We dig out our gear, dust it off, fix it up, and soak in the bright sun as it sends a few warming rays into our beaming faces. Others, the “snowbirds,” like to flock further South to warmer climes for a few months, escaping the cold, snow, and ice of Connecticut. Before long they will be getting ready to head back our way, to finally meet again with friends and families. We certainly ALL look forward to that first opportunity to see each other in person again, to hopefully get back to some semblance of what may become the “new normal.” ZOOM Has Arrived at WSPS Your Bridge has decided that it is time to invest in the technology that is so commonplace now, that almost everyone has had some level of experience using it to stay in touch with friends and loved ones. Waterbury Squadron is now the proud owner of a “Zoom” license. Though your Bridge has been meeting monthly using tele-conferencing, our March meeting was held successfully via Zoom. This technology will now allow us to set up virtual meetings, classes, or seminars. More about that follows. This is also the time to look back and review what has been, but more importantly, look ahead at what will be. For our Squadron, that means thanking all those who have volunteered their time and service to contribute to what it takes to keep such a wonderful organization like ours afloat. I especially want to thank the Bridge officers who have supported me and our squadron through this year of pandemic.
