The Pharmacy Manager together with the

hospital management team are responsible for

implementation and maintenance of this

procedure

The company has to ensure that

representatives are well trained and protected


Duties of Company Representatives

Appointment with Pharmacy Manager or Stock

Controller - proposed agenda

Sign in the visitors book kept in the Pharmacy

Indicate departments and the reason for their

visit

Display identification tag supplied by the

Pharmacy

Important aspects

Representative allowed in theatre must have

documented proof of

Immunity against Hepatitis B

Absence of potentially infectious diseases

such as TB

Having completed an educational module in

OR technique, or certificate of Competence in

Clinical Environment Training

Hepatitis B

Representative allowed in theatre must have

documented proof of immunity against

Hepatitis B, to ensure that the representative

is protected

Hep B status can be shown with either the

vaccination record card - 3 vaccinations over

a 6 month period and then a booster every 5

years, if required

Hepatitis B - booster

If no booster - status of antibodies can be

tested by a blood sample measuring the Hep B

SAB (surface antibody) value

If below 10 mIU/mL booster required for those

with an ongoing risk for exposure

Protected as long as the anti-HBs value is

positive and higher than 10 mIU per ml

of a representative from a surgical services company ('representative') in the operating room or

theatre during my/the patient's operation, for purposes of ensuring effective use of a particular

surgical instrument or to provide assistance with a particular surgical instrument. I acknowledge that

the presence of a representative, if requested by my doctor, will be in my/the patient's best interest".

CRICE Including Theatre Setting: for CRs who

enter theatre setting – include surgical hand

scrubbing, gowning and gloving, general

theatre protocol

CRICE Excluding Theatre Setting: for CRs who

enter the clinical environment but not theatre -

excludes gowning, scrubbing and gloving
