The New Year is starting off great: first of all, the new Constantia Flexibles website will be “unveiled” in March. Our CONSTANTIA Reel-Calc app has been updated and can now be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play. And: The first commercial applications of DryFoil in action will soon be presented.
A very special new product will be
unpacked at Constantia Flexibles in
March: the new website for the whole

the company and products was
already found on the Constantia
Flexibles Internet pages - these have
now been completely revised and

Flexibles has also developed further
as a company significantly in recent
years - this is reflected in the new

few seconds to calculate values
such as roll diameter, weight and
length. The Reel-Calc app has
now been expanded to include a
tool for converting units, a landing
page and also our Home&Personal
Care products, making it even more
practical. At www.constantia-reel-calc.

calculator, in case you aren’t using a
mobile device. The option of calculating
the new DryFoil has also been included.
And while we have your attention: With
its combination of active water vapor
management, high effectiveness and
security, DryFoil is currently being
tested intensively in the packaging
process with excellent results with our
customers and DryFoil will certainly be
a “hot topic” again this year.
WE’LL SEE YOU AGAIN!
Last year was another year full of important trade fairs and 2015 will be no different. Looking back, the CPhI/P-Mec in Mumbai, India was a highlight, where we participated for the fourth time.
A total of 1,000 exhibitors from over
100 countries and over 30,000
visitors were counted, making this fair
a big draw as usual. A large number
of global visitors also stopped by our
booth allowing us to meet many current
customers and new interested parties.
Come meet us again at CPhI Mumbai
between 1st to 3rd December 2015.
The Drug Delivery to the Lungs 25
Conference in Edinburgh was also
important for us. It is traditionally held in
the same location each year and turned
25 last December. This anniversary
was celebrated with a big gala
dinner. At the conference more than
500 guests from the pharmaceutical
industry and science sector discussed
the various facets of the inhalation
industry. At the Constantia Flexibles
booth, the design study of an inhalation
device with CONSTANTIA Safemax
generated a great deal of interest from
the conference delegates.
At Pharmatech, the largest and most
important fair of the pharmaceutical
industry in Russia, Constantia
Flexibles presented itself for the first
time with the Russian cooperation
partner TT print. The interests of the
visitors rested both in our product
portfolio - CONSTANTIA Coldform,
Blister and Sachet – as well as the
supply chain and logistics options
within Russia. The results at the end
were clear: Pharmatech is an excellent
opportunity to strengthen existing
contacts and make new connections.
Pharmapack Europe is much more
than just an exhibition, it is a platform
which gathers together expertise and
excellence in the field of packaging
innovation. Why is Pharmapack so
interesting for us? Pharmapack is the
leading drug delivery and packaging
event in Europe. The exhibition boasts
cutting edge products and services
associated with the manufacture and
delivery of pharmaceutical products.
It is a unique and superb platform
for fostering networking among the
professionals of the Healthcare
industry and is an ideal place for
innovation and learning opportunities.
This 2015 edition has been extremely
successful both in terms of meetings
with global customers as well as
establishing business relationships
with potential customers. We
welcomed visitors from all over Europe
but also from Egypt, Turkey, Israel,
South America, Japan, Tunisia and
South Africa.
This year, we noticed special
focus on CONSTANTIA DryFoil,
CONSTANTIA Child Resistant,
CONSTANTIA Sachet, CONSTANTIA
Stick Pack, CONSTANTIA Bag-on-Valve,
CONSTANTIA Anti-Counterfeiting. To put
it in a nutshell, Pharmapack Europe
delivers one-on-one opportunities with
professionals in a dynamic market.
Looking forward to seeing you all
again in 2016!
Last year was a successful year for the
pharma sector of Constantia Flexibles.
We are, of course, very happy that our
work, innovation and motivation paid
off. On the back of our success, it is
especially nice that we can celebrate
three prizes. The Austrian State
Prize “Smart Packaging 2014” went
to CONSTANTIA Coldform Lotus
this year and GlaxoSmithKline won
a 2015 World Star Award with the
inhaler protection pack. An additional
2015 World Star Award was given
for CONSTANTIA Perform, which
was developed for Greiner Bio-one´s
VACUETTE® PREMIUM Safety Needle
System Tube Touch.
Many of our partners already know, but
we do want to point out once more in
this short review of the year that there
has been a change in the ownership
structure of Constantia Flexibles: One
Equity Partners has sold its shares to
the Wendel Group. We look forward
to our future with our new owner
who will accompany us on our global
growth-journey. Investments have also
been made in our pharmaceutical
sector, as you can read in this issue.

THE TAMPER EVIDENT OPENING SYSTEM
Let’s raise the curtain on another innovation from the pharmaceutical sector of Constantia Flexibles: the Tamper Evident Opening System - or TEOS for short. As is often the case at Constantia Flexibles, TEOS was developed in collaboration with the customers, for syringes with a TNF-blocker.
The key feature is the tamper evident
peelable cover foil that is destroyed
during opening and thus provides
reliable protection against illegal
recycling of the packaging and in
combination with other features
provides excellent anti-counterfeit
protection.

RUSSIA FROM THE STANDPOINT OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL MARKET
The Russian pharmaceutical market is one of the most interesting worldwide. In part, this is due to the fact that it is
already one of the “top ten” today in an
international comparison. There is also
a two-digit growth rate that, according
to forecasts, will lead to a quadrupling
of the market volume by the end
of 2020. However: In comparison
with the German pharmaceutical
market, the overall Russian market
volume is still proportionally small.
When comparing the countries and
measured against the sale prices, it
amounts to only a third. On average,
Russians spend five times less on
healthcare than Germans. The reasons
for this are diverse. The lower average
earnings, the widespread practice of
self-treatments and the relatively poor
health system are the primary causes.
The driver for this nonetheless rapid
growth is the 2020 Pharmaceutical
Strategy Program that was started
about five years ago by the Ministry
for Industry and Trade. The goal of
this program is the modernization
of the pharmaceutical industry with
the simultaneous improvement of
healthcare for the Russian people.
In order to make the domestic
pharmaceutical industry “fit for
purpose”, three instruments are
used: the strengthening of the local
production, the reduction of generic
imports and the development of
innovation. Today, attractive market
conditions have resulted in new
production operations being built
by national and top international
pharmaceutical companies such as
Novartis, Astra Zeneca and Teva.
There are three main pharmaceutical
clusters, these are located in St.
Petersburg, Kaluga and Yaroslavl.
They are attractive due to favourable
investment conditions, a comprehensive
educational and research network and
their infrastructure.
If Russia intends to cover half of its
need for medications itself by the year
2020, the need for flexible packaging
materials will also increase. As a
result, Constantia Flexibles Pharma
has been building upon the successful
collaboration with the Russian
company “TT print” for many years.

INVESTMENTS - SUSTAINABLE AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE
The interesting recent investments of Constantia Flexibles in the pharma sector form a trip through Europe with stops in Germany, Spain and the UK. What unites all of these locations is that investments have been made in state-of-the-art technology ...
In Remshalden near Stuttgart,
Constantia Fromm prints blister
packaging, childproof laminates
and sachet foils. The printing of
blister packaging with ethanol
based inks is a proven technique
but an increase of production brings
about a corresponding increase in
consumption of the required printing
inks and therefore the amount of
solvents contained in the exhaust
air increases. This is why a so-called
RTO system to clean the exhaust
air was also installed here last year,
after a successful RTO-installation
in Sittingbourne. RTO designates a
process in which the solvents are
rendered harmless through oxidation.
The production locations of Constantia
Tobepal in Burgos and Logroño in
northern Spain are quite some distance
Euromac TB3-08
Pharma
from Stuttgart and investments have
also been made here in state-of-
the-art technology in the form of a
Euromac TB3-08. This brand new
slitting machine significantly increases
performance - especially through the
high stability of the slitting process
and speeds of up to 750 meters per
minute. In addition, the slitting machine
is also able to produce jumbo rolls with
a special carrier, in addition to small
rolls, which makes this equipment
versatile for customer requirements.
At Constantia Sittingbourne in
southeast UK an investment was
also made in a state-of-the-art roll
slitting machine, the Universal X6t.
Finding the right machine wasn’t easy
here because the product range of
Constantia Sittingbourne is broad,
extending from thin aluminum foils to
multi-layer and correspondingly thick
laminates. The Universal X6t has
proved itself to be quite flexible here
and also offers an entire series of
additional benefits, including a high
speed of up to 600 meters per minute
and low changeover times since the
next set of cores can be loaded while
the machine is running and the knives
are automatically set.
