Bethanecol Atropine (atropair) 1) Class: Anticholinergic, antimuscarinic, antiarrhythmic 2) Action: Blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and inhibits parasympathetic actions; anti-secretory action suppresses sweating, lacrimation, salivation, and secretions from nose, mouth, pharynx and bronchi. Blocks vagal impulse to heart, resulting in decrease in AV conduction time, increase in heart rate and cardiac output, and shortens PR interval. 3) Use: to produce mydriasis (dilation of pupil of eye) and cycloplegia (paralysis of ciliary muscle of eye resulting in loss of accommodation by blocking responses of iris sphincter muscle and ciliary muescles of lens to cholinergic stimulation) for eye exams; preoperative medication to reduce secretions and bradycardia; treats sinus bradycardia or asystole. Potent bronchodilator when bronchoconstriction has been induced by parasympathomimetics; decreases bronchial secretions. Decreases GI spasm. 4) Flomax

BethanecolAtropine (atropair) 1) Class: Anticholinergic, antimuscarinic,

antiarrhythmic2) Action: Blocks the neurotransmitter

acetylcholine and inhibits parasympathetic actions; anti-secretory action suppresses sweating, lacrimation, salivation, and secretions from nose, mouth, pharynx and bronchi. Blocks vagal impulse to heart, resulting in decrease in AV conduction time, increase in heart rate and cardiac output, and shortens PR interval.
