mehrere voneinander unabhngige Schichten gemeinsam montiert werdenknnen.

Ventilated type facade coverings were developed to
protect buildings against the combined action of rainand wind by counterbalancing the effects of water beatingon walls and keeping the building dry, with high levelaesthetic characteristics and undisputed advantages ofheat insulation and soundproofing. In fact the installationof Sistema Granitech for facades, both for new buildingsand renovations of existing buildings, gives considerableadvantages of wall durability over time and of energysaving, especially where tall, exceptionally exposed,isolated buildings are concerned.
In terms of thermal energy, Granitech ventilated wallscan reduce the amount of heat that buildings absorb inhot weather conditions due to partial reflection of solarradiation by the covering and the ventilated air gap andto the application of insulating material, thus achievingconsiderable reduction in the costs of air conditioning.Vice versa, in winter, ventilated walls manage to retainheat, resulting in savings in terms of heating. Finally, thisbuilding system, thanks to its chimney effect, sets upefficient natural ventilation, hence the name ventilatedfacade, notably aiding heat and moisture removal andguaranteeing a high level of living comfort.Precisely because of the numerous benefits and in depth
technological innovations, Granitech ventilated walls areearning increasing recognition in the world ofcontemporary architecture, permitting free interpretationof facades in a modern and brand new style, the perfectanswer to demanding project and performancerequirements.Ventilated walls are a complex, multi-layer structuralsolution that enables dry installation of the coveringelements.From a structural viewpoint, this is a truly cantileversystem compared to the traditional one; in fact the steelload-bearing structure is anchored to the building wallwith brackets and anchoring elements and enables theassembly of independent layers, such as an externalfacing and an insulating material, which, when fit together
create an air gap. Ventilation is much more effectivewhen applied to the entire facade and, for this reason,the air gap needs to be carefully dimensioned for perfectintake and discharge.

Granitech venti lated walls, together wi th
Porcelaingresmaterials, guarantee considerablybetter appearance and performance standards thanthose obtained using traditional building materials.These systems can also be used to create completethermal insulation by wrapping and protecting thebu i ld ing in a coat , wi thou t any of the disadvantages (being exposed to atmosphericagents, having to support the covering and theinsulating materials lack of aeration). The resultingtotal energy behaviour minimises dispersion andpromotes thermal balance by reducing energyrequirements to a minimum.In fact the positioning of a continual insulating layerto cover the wall guarantees a decrease in heatdispersion, eliminating heat bridges and interruptions
of insulating material due to beams and cornerpillars, generally present in traditional walls.The external facing takes away both the energyproduced by solar radiation and rainwater fromthe wall and, therefore, from the living areas, thusavoiding direct contact with the perimeter wall thatseparates the outside of the building from the inside.In addition, ventilated walls tend to increase thereflection of external noise as the particularconstruction, consisting of layers of facing, air gapand insulating material, ensures a certain level ofacoustic absorption. This obviously depends on theproperties of reflection, absorption and acoustictransmission of the materials used, as well as theirdimensions, thickness, positioning and the behaviourof the building structure
In short, the advantages resul t ing from theapplication of a Granitech ventilated wall comparedto a traditional one are:
elimination of the risk of cracked covering;
elimination of the risk of detachment from the wall;
protection of the walls against the direct action ofatmospheric agents;
elimination of heat bridges leading to energy saving;
elimination of surface condensation (the presence of anair gap facilitates evacuation of water vapour from theinterior and promotes the removal of possible moisture);
lasting efficiency of the outer insulating material, which
is kept perfectly dry thanks to an excellent ventilation; easy on site installation regardless of the climatic
conditions;
maintenance and work can be carried out on individualslabs;
creation of a technical working space for pipe andduct housing
eliminazione del rischio di distacco dalla parete perscollamento; protezione della struttura murariadallazione diretta degli agenti atmosferici;
eliminazione dei ponti termici e conseguente risparmioenergetico;
eliminazione della condensa superficiale (la presenzadellintercapedine daria facilita levacuazione delvapore acqueo proveniente dallinterno, favorendo losmaltimento di eventuale umidit);
efficienza nel tempo dellisolante esterno, mantenutoperfettamente secco da una ventilazione ottimale;
facilit di posa in opera indipendentemente dallecondizioni climatiche;
manutenzione e possibilit di intervento su ogni singolalastra

ausschlielich ganzen Elementen entstehen.
1. Einsichtnahme der Projekte bzw. des architektonischen Entwurfs inBezug auf die Gebudehlle;
2. Beurteilung der Durchfhrbarkeit;3. Feststellung der Materialien der Auenwand, die verkleidet werdensoll;
- das Aussehen der Fassade von Nahem;

When designing a new building it must be considered that
ventilated walls are a complex structural solution developedin accordance with industrial design criteria: every detailmust be examined and defined in advance to avoid theneed for substantial modifications and/or improvisationsduring the implementation stages.Designs for a new building may include consideration ofa particular facade module. The actual dimensions of theslab are added to those of the joints to develop a possiblecovering layout entirely composed of whole slabs.When dealing with facade components like openings,string courses or other non-modular elements, often foundin renovations, the number of slab cuts can be reduced inorder to correctly handle the different sizes and to limitcosts.
The preliminary steps to carry out a ventilated wall projectare:
1. examination of designs and/or the architectural conceptfor the building covering;2. feasibility study;3. identification of the materials that make up the wallfacing to be covered;4. identification of a structural plan and respective generalcalculations;5. completion of the detailed final drawings and plans.
One of the most important design decisions concerningthe final facade result is whether to use exposed or concealedanchoring devices.This choice fundamentally involves two considerations:- the aesthetics of the facade at close distance;- the economic aspect to be also valued according to themodularity of the chosen slabs.
When preparing a building for the laying of a ventilatedwall, the designer must take into consideration anapproximate weight of 28-30 kg per square metre for acovering of porcelain stoneware slabs, and a ventilatedpackage thickness of between 110 and 150 mm.

The functional layers of a ventilated facade
Multi-layer ventilated facadeA ventilated facadeis an articulated system requiringknowledge of the characteristics of the each singlefunctional layer it comprises, analysing aspects andrequirements of:1. Covering or external facing2. Anchoring structure3. Air gap4. Insulating layer5. Perimeter or curtain wall6. Anchoring elements
The advantages and performance of some elements mustbe accurately analysed while for others, albeit of equal
importance, a brief descriptive note will be enough.
The covering or external facingTheGranitechsystem for laying the technical ceramicslabs, in situations that would have seemed unthinkablejust a few years ago, arises from a combination oftechnology applied toPorcelaingresmaterials andfrom continual development in engineering. It is thereforeimportant to first choose the materials to be used to givethe best aesthetic and qualitative results, as it will be theexternal covering that improves the building appearance.Indeed, its function is that of characterising the building
appearance as well as protecting the walls fromatmospheric-polluting agents and achieving theperformance levels.As a safety measure 5 x 5 mm fibreglass netting is bondedto the back of each slab to temporarily hold together anybroken slab pieces until the slabs can be replaced.
The covering materials of a ventilated wall must meet thefollowing requirements:a)increased mechanical strengthb)increased resistance to thermal shocksc)reduced water absorptiond)non-flammabilitye)resistance of colours to sunlightf)resistance to chemicals and air pollutiong)lightweight and ductilityh)limited maintenance requirements

Porcelain stonewareortechnical ceramicshave all thesecharacteristics, making them technically better than quarrymaterials and classifying them as one of the most suitable
materials for ventilated facades.Technical ceramic slabs are much lighter than quarryslabs and so no unnecessary weight is added to thebuilding, a factor especially important in renovationworks, guaranteeing maximum resistance to corrosiondue to exposure to atmospheric agentsThe design principle of the ventilated facade lies in thestatic autonomy of each single facing slab as well as inthe elimination of fixing mortar.Not being directly anchored to the building, the coveringslab is free to move according to its own expansioncoefficient, independently of movements of the structuralsupports, and to adjust to the settling movements andoscillations of the building thanks to the elasticity of theanchoring. The joints must be suitably sized to absorbmovements, to allow the slabs to shift and expand without
interfering with each other.A joint is simply a gap separating slabs. It has the specifictask of allowing the slabs to move freely, in response tothermal expansions and settling movements in the system.The joimts vary between 4 and 8 mm., depending onslab size, distance between building floors and thestructure used.

Materials zu suchen.
ausgesetzt ist, machen die Phase der Planung zur Bestimmung der richtigenAbmessung der Tragstruktur zu einer Phase von hchster Bedeutung;
in unmittelbarer Umgebung).

The load-bearing structure
TheGranitech systemusually develops facade structuresin aluminium with steel anchoring elements, although all-steel structures or one with some wooden components arealso possible. The choice of aluminium for the anchoringbrackets and the continuous elements is mainly due itsexcellent ductility, to its sufficiently high resistance/weightratio and good resistance to atmospheric agents.In a ventilated facade the load-bearing structure permitsthe porcelain stoneware slabs to be anchored to the buildingwalls and has a purely static function.The frame of the structure is made up of integrated metalelements, generally extruded aluminium profiles, assembledto obtain the facades necessary modularity. The sizes ofthe technical ceramic slabs, their weight and the wind loadthey are exposed to represent the stresses the structure
bears, so that the dimensioning stage of the structure isextremely significant.Other important factors to be taken into considerationconcerning the ventilated facade and consequently thestructure, are the climatic conditions in the constructionarea, the buildings characteristics (especially its height)and surroundings (location, exposure to very windyconditions or frequent rain, characteristics of nearbybuildings).
The metal structural components of aGranitechventilatedfacade are divided into three groups:
anchoring brackets (1),
continuous elements: upright profiles (2)and crosspieces (3)
anchoring elements (4).The load-bearing structure works as follows:
The upright profiles of the facade are anchored to thebuilding structure by brackets and suitablebolts (5),
The possible crosspieces are anchored to the uprightprofiles using slots,
The facing slabs are anchored to the upright profilesusing special metal accessories

In jedem Fall mssen
kegelstumpffrmigen, werkseitig vorbereiteten Bohrungen befestigt.

Theanchoring brackets(1) are put directly on the building
wall and anchored to it using mechanical or chemicalbolts, according to the type of existing masonry, thatpermit connection with the continuous elements. Thebrackets also transmit to the structure wind loads andother stresses the facade has to bear. Thanks to adjustmentsystems, it permits to compensate for any out-of-plumbconditions in the buildings wall. Sheets of aggregateare placed between the wall and the brackets to avoidpossible corrosion caused by contact between the metaland the cement. The depth of the brackets mainly dependson the dimensions of the air gap and the buildingrequirements, while shape and height are calculatedusing incident loads.
The continuous elements (upright profiles (2) and
crosspieces (3)) have shapes that vary according to theloads they must bear and the intervals between theanchoring brackets: they must however be interruptedin length every 3/6 metres in order to permit expansionand contraction caused by thermal expansions.
Theanchoring elements (4) are used to assemble andanchor the porcelain stoneware slabs to the continuouselements and are generally positioned near the top ofthe slabs. These are provided with gaskets to separatethe different elements and prevent vibration.When exposed anchoring devices are used, theGranitechGHV system generally uses elements that are painted tomatch the slabs, considerably reducing visual impact tothe extent that from a distance of a few metres they areunnoticeable.
TheGranitech GHS systemwith concealed anchoringelements uses special clamps to fix the slabs to thecrosspieces, permitting any necessary adjustments. Theseclamps are anchored to the back of the slabs usingcontrolled expansion mechanical anchoring elements,in special truncated taper holes carried out in the factory.
Connection between the various elements is designed toallow the expansion of each component. Componentswith different expansion coefficients are separated andconnected using slot anchors to allow respective linearmovements, without causing any damage to the structureor the external facing.
Tra parete muraria e staffe vengono interposti fogli dimateriale inerte onde evitare possibili corrosioni dovutea l con ta t t o t r a me ta l l o e cemen to .

Ventilated air gap
In a ventilated facade the air gap between the insulatingmaterial and the external porcelain stoneware facing, besidesproviding an effective protection for the wall itself and aspecial chamber where the rain may fall, ensures circulationof air entering at the base of the facade and exiting at thetop as it heats up.Incident solar radiation on the facade and heat coming fromthe living areas in fact heat up the air in the gap, resultingin a circulatory motion. These ventilation openings can beprotected by grids to prevent the unwelcome entry of foreignbodies.
The air gap must be suitably sized to guarantee good aircirculation and, above all, to set up chimney style conduction.It is usually between 30 and 80 mm thick.
The functionality of this layer depends on its internal aircirculation conditions and so it should be kept free of anyimpediments which might limit the flow (bottlenecks causedby the presence of structural elements, etc.).
A ventilated air gap results in a series of benefits andadvantages:
the evaporation of damp present in the building walls(generated during construction),
evacuation of water vapour coming from the interior,
heat removal by the rising motion of air,
reduction of the heat flow from the outside to the insideof the building during the hot season,
it maintains dryness and therefore contributes tolong-term preservation of both the insulating layer andthe building walls
l'vaporation de l'humidit prsente dans lependant la construction) ;
l'vacuation de la vapeur deau provenantdu btiment ;
l'limination de la chaleur par effet duascensionnel dair ;
l'attnuation du flux thermique de lextrieude ldifice lors de la saison chaude;

Projekt geplanten Windbelastung standhlt.

Insulating layer
The insulating layer is made of semi-rigid or rigid panelsin mineral or vegetable fibres or cellular plastic materials.Its thickness depends on the type of material used and thethermal requirements of the project; generally it is between3 and 8 mm thick. The insulating panels are directlyanchored to the walls using suitable anchoring devices.Uniform application of the insulating layer (includingframework of beams and pillars) will guarantee a moreeven temperature between the various parts of the wall,eliminating the so-called heat bridges that are oftenresponsible for the creation of mildew and condensations.
The choice of the panel depends not only on the projectrequirements but also, and above all, on the followingperformance requirements:
thermal insulation capacity waterproofing
non-flammability
breathable material
acoustic behaviour
colouration of superficial layer (in some cases the jointsbetween the covering elements might expose the insulatinglayer and therefore colouration ensures homogenity)
resistance over time (the panels resistance to wear andtear and shredding)
Strato Isolante
dalle sue caratteristiche prestazionali: capacit termica isolante;
idrorepellenza;
eazione al fuoco;
traspirabilit (in modo da impedire fenomeni dicondensa)
isolamento acustico;
colorazione superficiale (talvolta necessaria nel casodi facciate ventilate con fughe che potrebbero consentirela vista dello strato, garantendo cos uniformit estetica);

Perimeter or curtain wallThe walls of a ventilated facade must be constructed, in asuitable way, with materials (reinforced concrete, masonry,blocks, etc.) able to support anchorage of the load-bearingstructure of the ventilated facade and must be strong enoughto withstand the wind loads, allowed for in the project.According to the thermal performance of the ventilatedwall, constructions of a suitably thick and appropriate typeof materials result in the elimination of the traditional innercounterwall of hollow bricks, thus providing useful surface,which can be used for housing. Attention must howeveralways be taken, when positioning wiring and cabling in
the walls, so that these do not interfere with the anchoringof the facade covering.A layer of mortar is generally spread uniformly over theexternal surface of the support to reduce localisedirregularities in the underlying wall.
