Step Three :: Your core (compulsory) modules

The core, or compulsory, modules for your course will be listed at the top of this screen along with their

associated CATS points and assessment group (AG). You have no choice over whether to take these

modules or not, they are a mandatory part of your degree course.

Assessment Groups fall into four broad categories and a key will be provided to assist you on screen. Inmost cases postgraduate modules will have an Assessment Group of 'A' meaning the departmentresponsible will inform you of the assessment pattern.

Part Time Students should go straight from here to Step Seven.

    Step Four: Your option modules

You will need to use this screen to add the option module(s) that you wish to take this year. Each option

module must be added individually, this is largely due to the fact that many modules require selection of aparticular CATS weighting or Assessment method as shown below.

    Once you have selected an

Finally, you will need to select the method of assessment for this module. Please refer to the key found at

the bottom of the page. Assessment Groups fall into four broad categories and a key will be provided toassist you on screen. In most cases postgraduate modules will have an Assessment Group of 'A' meaningthe department responsible for the module will inform you of the assessment pattern. Some modules may

have a method which is only available to particular students so make sure you are not choosing anassessment group you are not permitted to take (the department should notify you about any suchrestrictions).

You should repeat steps five and six until all the modules you wish to add or edit are displayed on thesummary screen. If you wish to add an unlisted option please see Step Seven below.

You should refer to information your department has given you and the departmental website (which isavailable via a link on the details summary screen which you saw when you initially logged in to the system -

see Step Two) with regard to any limitations on the selections you may make.

Where illegal module choices have been made you may find these amended by your department at a future

date without notice. You will be able to login at any time after the deadline for making changes to yourmodule selection but after this deadline you will have read-only access to review your module registrations.

All departments reserve the right to suspend a module at any time after registration is complete if, forexample, staff fall ill or leave the University. Where this occurs departments will endeavour to inform allstudents affected and will attempt to provide you with an alternative choice. Modules not currently shown on

the system may be added at a later date and you will have the option to register for these as they becomeavailable; your department will give you details.

    Important Information regarding CATS Points

Please ensure that you select the correct number of modules and/or CATS points. Normally your minimum

CATS points should be 180 CATS (for Full-Time, Masters study) or 120 CATS (for full-time postgraduateDiplomas) and departments may have restrictions on exceeding this limit also. The usual rules for makingyour selections are:

? A free choice from the options shown up to a maximum number of modules? A free choice from the options shown up to a maximum number of CATS points

    ?

A certain number of modules from each option list? A certain number of CATS points from each option list

    Step Seven: Adding unlisted options

Unlisted options are those option modules denoted in the course regulations for your degree under generalrubrics such as, for example, "Any other Mathematics module", and which do not have individual modulecode entries in the module lists for your degree and year of study.

To register an unlisted option module select Add module in the usual way and scroll to the bottom of the list

and select the Search for unusual options button (see note A of Step 7 above). You can then either enterthe module code if you know it (note B of Step 7), or search for the module by department and year of study(see note C of Step 7).

From here you add the unlisted module in the normal way, as described above under Step Five.

    Notes for Part-Time students

Part-time students may take some of their core modules in their second year of study and to facilitate this, the Online Module Registration system does not pre-populate core module lists in advance.

You should therefore follow the procedure outlined above for adding unlisted or unusual options to add allyour modules. Please only add those modules you are taking during the 2006/07 academic year at thisstage.

Step Eight: Summary and Confirmation of your Modules

Once you have added and/or edited all the modules you wish to take, please take a few moments to checkyour registrations against the regulations for your course available on the University website and from

material provided to you by your department. You should also look at the total number of CATS points forwhich you have selected modules normally this should not be less than 180 CATS (120 CATS for diploma

Once you have checked yourmodule choices are correct, click

    departments instructions concerning CATS points.

email will be sent to your Warwick email address.

important if you are using a computer that may be used by somebody else.

Step Nine: Giving Feedback & Requesting Assistance

To enable us to further improve the system and to answer any queries you may have please take the time to

leave some feedback on the forum. Navigating from the my.insite screen you may leave feedback about the

system by following the "Access the online module registration forum link" as shown in the screen shotbelow. Once you have accessed the forum simply click on the "Become a member of this forum" link found at
