Editorial02SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2014

Dear Readers,

As you flip through this issue you will notice a heavy spotlight on all things Election. Sorry, you can’t escape hoardings, ads on your favourite radio stations and TV channels and now even in Parsi Times, your favourite weekend read! Countries go through revolutions all the time. When we saw Egypt revolt, when we saw Saddam’s statute being brutally pulled down, we had a sense of awe, a sense of realizing that we were witnessing historical moments. Our Election should carry with it the same value…

We live in a Country in need of less greed and laze and more heart and happiness. We all suffer at the hands of a Governing system gone awry but our degrees vary. The problems of traffic may haunt you but try comparing them to the trauma of families in villages where the bread earning farmers hang themselves in the face of surmounting debt. It is important to gather the family and head to your polling booth. Be proud that you CAN vote and you are not subjected to hideous laws like those coming up in nations like Iraq, where they want to legalize marriages for minors and suppress the woman’s voice. I know parking is a pain in all the wrong places and standing in the boiling sun is not the most comfortable. But it is all necessary, so necessary. The Politician is a smart man. He knows how to get to you. He knows what makes you feel good about yourself and works on it. In the villages it is free goodies, in the slums sharab and hard cash. But what does a Politician give a Zoroastrian Community? He gives us pats on the back, an acknowledgement of our superiority as a Community (having built the nation and all…) and he knows that we could easily lap it all up in exchange for a vote and a resounding cheer! Don’t let him. Show that Politician that the most important things about us are goodness, truth and honesty. Demand real facts…refuse food! Vote for him if you see true potential. Vote for him if he inflates your heart and not your ego. As Hands, Trains, Brooms, Bows and Arrows, Lotus Flowers and Elephants fly around my head at maddening speeds, the witty Vir Das sure made me laugh! (on Pg. 19)

Dear Editor,Kudos to the writer of this

article titled ‘MIND OVER MATTER!’

I fully agree with the author, Ms. Daisy Zohrabi, regarding the unthoughtful wastage of throwing Daar ni Pori, etc. into the sea on the auspicious day of Roj Avan and Maha Avan!! She further writes that “Avan Advisur Banu wants from us to keep her pristine and pure!”

Today, with education and

water!! On one hand, we talk of progress and take pride that our Community is well

how come we still practise such unhealthy deeds? Instead of throwing the Daar ni Pori or

coconut in the sea, it is wise to feed the hungry. No sooner is the coconut thrown in the sea than little boys jump and retrieve the coconut in front of our eyes! Are we appeasing Avan Advisur Banu in this manner?

Another line worth pondering is, “How often do we ignore the needs of the deserving but leave no opportunity to indulge in our own extravaganza?” So much wisdom is packed in these lines! Only a beautiful soul could have churned these words!! Surely mankind should meditate upon these lines and introspect.

Yes, all mankind, including me, tend to ignore or overlook the outstretched hands of needy and avoid doing our bit

On Sunday, 6th April 2014, Mah Ava Roj Govad, the Panthaki Baug Welfare

Centre (PWC) of Panthaki Baug, organised a bus trip for senior citizens to Chowpatty sea face for prayers and a religious ceremony.

The bus, packed with a ripe 40 senior citizens (some

their walking sticks), huddled into the bus and embarked on the journey to Chowpatty at 5.00 pm and set off with the

loud reciting of 2 Yatha Ahu Vairyo’s and 1 Ashem Vohu for a safe journey. Amidst the

and we arrived at Chowpatty an hour later at 6.00 pm.

As we disembarked and arranged ourselves on the pavement, we were greeted by high tide and a sea of weekend crowd. Heads were then covered piously in scarves by the ladies and black topis by the men as the Kusti prayers were recited on

the footsteps of Chowpatty arcade. Post the Kusti

kharak-supari, sukhad, and agarbattis were generously offered to the sea, Ava Ardeshir Banu. Urchins along the shore helped collect sea water in bottles for all of us to take back home. After this ritual was complete, the men and womenfolk performed their prayers, some seated at the cement benches and others standing at the gate. Naturally, this otherwise-unusual practice piqued the curiosity levels of passers-by, who stopped to snap photos of our group, our hired bus with the ‘Senior Citizens’ banner included!

After a good whole hour of prayer and relaxation, it was time to make the return journey back. We all assembled back inside the bus, took our

seats, and munched on snacks like dal-ni-pori, Punjabi samosa, and wafers, while simultaneously sipping on Frooty. On the way back, Monajats were sung by Aban Jassawalla and Shernaz Bulsara, and the entire bunch joined in the singing.

Credit for the smooth passage of the event goes to PWC Secretary, Mr. Pervez

Iraver, along with volunteers of the event, Dinshaw and Zarine Elavia, Zarin Jesia, and Freny Siganporia. Their effort and care – especially with those above the 80 years of age – was commendable and appreciated.

All in all, the journey was a pleasant, happy one, with everybody looking forward to next year’s trip.

Tuesday, the 25th of March 2014, saw Parsis decked

make their way to the Bombay Presidency Radio Club Pier at 5.00 pm to seek the blessings of water deity Avan Ardavisur Banu on the occasion of Ava Mahino Ava Roj. The function started off with a Jashan headed by Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor of Udvada along with 21 Mobeds.

Celebrations of Ava Yazad Nu Parab were started years ago by Mr. Dinshaw Merchant and Mr. Rustom Kaka. Today, the legacy is carried forward by Committee Members Kersi Limathwalla, Bakhtawar Merchant, Zarir Bhathena, Ervad Nadir Modi, Rusi Bhumgara, and Kersi Commissariat. Zarine Commissariat was compere for the evening.

The festivities began with a wonderful Monajat by Mr. Marzban Mehta and a lovely song composed by Rustom Chothia, sung by the students of Girton High School. Following this, there were speeches by

Kersi Limathwalla and Vada Dasturji Saheb. While Mr. Limathwalla spoke of giving back to the Community

what has so abundantly been given to us by the Community, Vada Dasturji Saheb issued a wake-up call to the audience, asking them all to think about the issues currently clouding the Community – from the dwindling numbers to the status of education. Post this, Keynote Speaker, Ervad Aspandiar

and evil, where good ultimately triumphs. As the function neared its end, a vote of thanks

was given by Rusi Bhumgara to all who had so generously contributed to making the evening a success, in particular to the Management of Radio Club. The celebrations came to an end with the ceremonial singing of ‘Chhaiye Hame Zarthosthi’ and other nostalgic numbers by Mr. Marzban Mehta.

Dear Mamaiji, You always make me read the Gujarati calendar date from the front page of the Parsi Times. Today is Zamyad Roj. What does that mean?Dear Dikri,Zamyad Roj is the day dedicated to the Angel, the Divinity, the Yazata who presides over the Earth. The Earth is not just a physical planet but a living organism in every way, including in Spirit. Many cultures refer to her as Mother Earth. Dedicate yourself this day to take care of Her. Connect with the Earth by simply expressing love and gratitude to Her for all that she has been providing since eons. Ground yourself. Take

Earth. Also, thus, strengthen your bonds with your own human mother. Cherish her with unconditional love. The day preceding this one, Aasman, stands for Sky (Father). Thus, we see the subtle indication of the Male-Female, Yin-Yang Principles that pervade the Universe.

Election-par-eedu06SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2014

As the 16th Assembly Election is under way, voters are in a state of

confusion, as no party seems to be trustworthy enough. The last phase of the Congress regime has probably been the darkest period of Indian democracy, tainted with multiple scams, shameless behaviour in both the Houses of Parliament, and total mis-governance, where the parliamentarians looted public funds and properties. Till the elections are over, the voters are the kings, lured and wooed with tall promises. It seems the ruling party has woken up from the deep slumber with renewed promises, which they failed to deliver during their long spell in power. The country certainly needs a change.

There is much hype about the Modi factor, with the development agenda on the cards, but the reality is far from the factual truth. It is true that he has grabbed the opportunity to establish some big projects, but Gujarat has not achieved a status where the common man has received his due share of progress and development. In the last ten years, about 60, 000 small scale industrial units were shut down in Gujarat, raising the tally of unemployment to over six lakh. Gujarat ranks 5th in foreign investment and 12th in agricultural production. Its GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) growth has declined by 3.44%. 57 of the 225 blocks in 28 districts of Gujarat have no electricity. There are 4, 55, 885 pending applications for electricity connections. Healthcare has been totally

neglected. In 1995, 4.15% of the budget was allotted for healthcare, which has reduced to a mere 0.77%, the second last in the country. The rich have become wealthier and healthier, but among the weaker section, cases of starvation and malnutrition have increased to a great extent, especially among women and children. These authentic

‘development.’ The Aam Admi Party

entered the political arena with the promise to weed out corruption and bring good and honest governance. But the hopes of the common man received a jolt with their many controversial decisions. They failed to show the maturity expected of them. Yet there is no doubt that they harbour honest intentions. Nonetheless, they lack experience and maturity. There seems to be no direction for the voters as they seem to be stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.

It is not that there are no dedicated and honest people among the politicians, but the tainted and the corrupt outnumber them. Under the circumstances, the public should ignore the party politics and vote for candidates basis their merit, totally rejecting tainted candidates with criminal records. The old hard-cored thick-skinned politicians should be replaced by young, energetic, enthusiastic youth with a vision to bring change for the better. This is the time voters have to show maturity in selecting candidates with clean images.

Unfortunately, the Community lacks interest in politics, but we should support the lone Community

candidate in the Bandra Constituency. Hailing from the family of a genius, Mr. Nani Palkhivala, the chip of the old block, Mr. Phiroze Palkhivala has inherited values that the stalwart stood for. Not only the members of the Community, but the entire Constituency should vote for him, as the public today wants a change – a change for the clean politics that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi insisted upon.

Rahul Gandhi is the grandson of Mr. Phiroze Gandhi, who was a member of the Parsi Community. Phiroze was the son-in law of Jawaharlal Nehru, but he never hesitated to criticise the government of his father- in-law. He exposed the case of Shri Ram Kishan Dalmia, who, as a public servant, used public money to fund for his personal gain. He further exposed the Haridas Munda case, which ultimately led to the resignation of the Finance Minister, T.T.Krishnamachari. He continued challenging a number of issues and emerged as a bold, upright, and honest parliamentarian to be reckoned with in his own right. Unfortunately, there have been only a few Parsis in Parliament, but all of them have shown exemplary conduct and have made us feel proud. Today, more than ever, we need bold and upright members in the assembly, and I am sure the lone candidate from our Community, Mr. Phiroze Palkhivala from the AAP, will not only win the election, but will also inspire others in our Community to join politics and weed out the corruption inherent within – a goal which will lead us to prosperity.

Trent, established in 1998 runs lifestyle chain ’Westside’, hypermarket chain ‘Star Bazaar’ and ‘Landmark’, a books and music chain and is the retail arm of the Tata Group.

Noel Naval Tata, brother-in-law of Tata group Chairman Cyrus Mistry has taken over as the Chairman of Trent, succeeding F K Kavarana, who retired from the group after turning 70 this month. Noel, 57, was vice-chairman of the company and was instrumental in getting British retail giant Tesco as a partner to invest in Indian retailing. The joint venture plans to invest Rs 680 crore in multi-

venture after the Union government opened the sector for foreign direct investment in September 2012.

Noel was the managing director of Trent from 1999, a post he relinquished in 2010 to become the

vice-chairman. The company’s consolidated turnover rose from Rs 8 crore in 1999 to Rs 1,932 crore in 2013.

He is also the non-executive chairman of Tata Investment Corporation and chairman of Landmark, the group’s book and music retailer.

Former Chairman of the world-renowned Tata Group (one of the largest employers in Britain), Ratan Tata, was recently honoured by Queen Elizabeth with a GBE (Knight Grand

Cross), one of the United Kingdom’s highest civilian awards.

said the GBE had been bestowed on him for his services to UK/India relations, inward investment to the UK, and philanthropy.

awarded as part of the ‘Honorary British Awards to Foreign Nationals’ for 2014, a might commendable achievement! As Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata had been conferred a KBE (Knight

Commander) by the Queen back in 2009, a year after his Indian conglomerate had acquired Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the ubiquitous British luxury car brand.Joining in the praise was British Prime Minister David Cameron who lauded Tata as he spoke of JLR as a ‘great story’ of the 500 million pounds investment by Tata Motors in a new plant located in the West Midlands region.Aside from his lengthy list of business contributions and achievements, Ratan Tata is also recognised for his contributions to academia in the UK. The Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship, currently in its 18th year, works with the London School of Economics to offer an 8-month fellowship to scholars in the social sciences with South Asian research experience to work at the LSE Asia Research Centre (ARC).

Phiroze Palkhivala is the AAP candidate for North Central Mumbai (Bandra East & West, Kalina, Kurla,

Chandivali, and Vile Parle). An inspiring amalgam of intellect and heart, Mr. Palkhivala, by all accounts, will make a very effective MP. He has an incisive mind that is able to cut straight to the core of any issue, the burning passion to do what is right, and the desire to make a difference.Nephew of Sri Nani Palkhivala, who fought relentlessly for the rights of the country through the dismal period of the emergency, and had the moral courage to speak when all the voices of reason in the country had been silenced, Phiroze has inherited the same genes. His integrity and idealism make him stand apart from the rest and he is never afraid to speak up for what is right. In fact, Phiroze Palkhivala never expected to be in politics. Till the AAP appeared on the scene, politics

was not a space for clean-thinking, high-minded citizens. We now have a platform for the ‘aam aadmi’ who is socially minded and wants to devote his energy to the good of the nation.Having held back for so long

this constituency, the AAP seem to have got it right with their choice of Phiroze Palkhivala. Here’s a candidate who seems incorruptible, proactive, secular and

progressive. Only time will tell whether he will be able to deliver, given the present political scenario, but considering the general calibre of our representatives,

and the hope for a better tomorrow.Phiroze Palkiwala is an Advocate by profession and a practicing council in

the Bombay High Court for last two decades. He earned his Law degree from Govt. Law College, Mumbai and has appeared in numerous PIL’s. His main interest is in Spirituality.

Mr. Maneck Davar spoke how important it was to vote for the right leader, that “if you press the button on NOTA, it’s a waste of your vote, and if you vote for Congress, its a waste of your future.” He said that 65% of India’s population is under 35 years of age and this election is not about charity but about hopes and aspirations of the people. He said that if the Indian economy did not grow at 9%, it would be catastrophic to the country. To achieve this, stability was required and the only man who could provide this was Narendra Modi. He then introduced Mr. Rahul Shewale, the BJP- Shiv Sena Candidate from the area.

Mr. Rahul Shewale is a Civil Engineer by profession & has been elected 3 times as a Corporator & as the chair person of a standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai. He spoke about the work done in the Dadar Parsi Colony, like repairs & maintenance of roads,

5 gardens, availability of the civic amenities.

He said the Country needs a leader who understands & is sensitive to the needs & problems of workers, farmers, labourers, ordinary tax-payers, professionals, women, youth & senior citizens. This is possible only through the Grand Alliance led by Mr. Narendra Modi. He appealed to the Parsi community to elect him as their representative from Mumbai South-West Lok Sabha constituency & enable him to serve them.

Mrs. Shaina NC said that she had not come to tell the Community who to vote for. But it is important to cast one’s vote sensibly. She was very grateful to the people who had taken out the time

being played on the same evening. She said the Parsi contribution to the city was tremendous & she was very happy to be there that evening. Parsis have left

industry and they should continue to live upto that.

Mr. Aditya Thackeray began by saying, “I want this to be an informal heart-to-heart talk with you. Some of my best and most valuable friends are Parsis. I spend so much time with them

a minority Community.”He said the country was indebted

to great Parsis like Dadabhai Naoroji and Sir Phiroshah Mehta and it was a pleasure to be there. He said we had lived upto the promise of “sweetening the quality of life” and assimilating in the country. He concluded by saying the Shiv Sena – BJP alliance was the only hope of the country under the able leadership of Mr. Narendra Modi.

The next speaker Mr. Mickey

India is ill and the only doctor is Mr. Narendra Modi. By default, there is no other individual with the passion & commitment of Mr. Modi. On the global front too he is the best representative. He told Parsi women not to be silly saying Rahul Gandhi “ketlo mitho che- ene vote apo. Rather send him a love letter but vote sensibly for the Sena-BJP.

Mr. Jimmy Mistry, architect & a resident of the Dadar Parsi Colony

said from experience he knew that the Sena leaders helped in whatever way possible & were always very co-operative. For economic stability, growth & progress Mr. Narendra Modi seems to be the only choice. In Udvada also he showed his support for the Parsi community in several ways through legislation to safe-guard our property. Mr. Mody comes across as an out-

right, dynamic & progressive leader.Mr. Parvez Damania said his

association with the Thackeray family went back a long way. They work for the common-man, are genuine, helpful & sincere. The Sena_BJP alliance will ensure smoothness in work which gets affected if there is a different government at the centre. He mentioned a visit to Ahmedabad revealed how effecient systems were in place there. Mr. Narendra Modi’s

Hearing Mr. Modi speak in Udvada showed the Community that in him they have a leader who will always be there for them. The Community will get the recognition they deserve.

Mr. Aditya Thackeray then said that he was ready to answer questions. Mrs.Bachi Karkaria said that the Community was very upset that Rohinton Mistry’s book “The Long Road” had been banned & withdrawn from the Bombay University B.A. syllabus & that he had been warned not to visit India. Mr. Aditya Thackeray said that the book had never been banned, but because it had profanity the staff had said it was embarrassing to teach. So instead of making it compulsory reading, it is left to choice reading. It is available in stores & has never been banned. With regards to Rohinton Mistry there has never been any threat to his life nor has he been warned or threatened to stay away from India. Mr. Aditya Thackeray said ‘If he ever visits India I would be very happy to share a cup of tea with him.’

Dear Parsi Times Readers,

I interacted with some members from the Parsi community last week. The Thackeray family has had many close Parsi friends, for generations: be it Balasaheb Thackeray, Uddhav ji and myself. Some of the friendships have been well known in social circles, some remained in family circles.

community as an emissary of the party. Being candid, of course it is for elections and votes, but on meeting them, it was much more than that. Seeing familiar faces, smiles, it took me to a connect, never realized before. I did admit that I was there to ask for votes, but also promised, regardless whether I get the votes or not, there are things I want to do for the community.1) Get central funds through our

MPs for the repair of dilapidated baugs.

2) Get a scheme to support the Elders of the community that are above 65 years, be it medically or socially.

3) Help the Parsi youth come into the mainstream, on merit, by holding employment/ career programs for them and inviting them to govt posts.

I do know, the community is self reliant, enterprising and visionary. It has given many luminaries as industrialists, statesmen, and guiding forces, but today as the community does need some assurance of not being distanced, this is to simply lend a friendly hand.

The contribution of Parsis to our dear city of Mumbai stands unparalleled and this is only to help fellow Mumbaikars, who love their city as much as I do. I thank Parvez uncle and Roshni aunty, Mr Maneck Davar, Mr Jimmy Mistry and Mr Mickey Mehta for endorsing our candidates and symbol bow and arrow, and for reposing their faith in me.

Community Coverage 09SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2014

P.T.: You have been associated with the May Queen for 10 plus years now… the contest has grown from strength to strength.. why do you think it has sustained and become such a huge event? M.M: Through pageants the youth undergo tremendous experiential learning. We try and install in them a lot of value systems like Caring, and sharing. Each year I take the May Queen Contestants to the Parsi General and Free senior Citizen Wards to mingle with the poor or abandoned elders of our Community and show them that someone cares. I always tell models ‘don’t only be models on ramp or in print

transformations in the society around you’. If even one of the girls’ takes the advice forward my purpose is reached. We teach them to respect parents, be open and honestly communicate. To be benevolent they are taught grace and compassion. They should lead by example. P.T.: What are the changes you have seen in the Pageant over 10 years? M.M: Now we have girls coming from every walk of life including the ones going for higher studies. This speaks about how the pageant has been able to contribute. People have seen it grow!P.T.: What’s your favourite part of the pageant M.M: The Q&A by far!! I judge the Body Beautiful round. In the Q&A there is typical parsi fun and humour! Funny are the questions and so funnier are the answers!P.T.: Any particular ‘oooo’ moment you remember? M.M: A judge asked a contestant if she would consider marrying outside the Community. She replied… ‘Andhado chalse, behro chalse, lulo chalse…pan Parseej joye!’ and the crowd went wild!!!

Once I had asked the contestants if they had to choose between dating Khojeste Mistry and Jimmy Mistry who would they pick…The results were mixed. P.T.: What advice would you give this year’s contestants?

M.M: I would advise the contestants to be spiritual, to use their beauty,

transform society and do a lot for the underprivileged always. P.T.: Why would you urge parents to let their daughters participate in a beauty pageant? M.M: Simply because it is a great opportunity for them to mingle with girls from different walks of life so that there is immense amount of cross pollination and learning. In such conditions girls learn to share and not want to trample onto the other but uplift the weaker onesP.T.: Our Editor Freyan Bhathena will also be part of the Judges panel this year. Any advice from yourself, a seasoned judge at pageants? M.M.: Sure! Fellow judge, please don’t put them in a spot by asking questions on community and religion. Instead challenge their intelligence and ask them questions of larger interests of life and questions which can address larger issues P.T.: What do you look for in a winner for the Pageant? M.M.: The winner has to be a person who is completely heart oriented as this is a contest not a competition.P.T.: All the girls will be putting their best feet forward so how tough is it to suss out the trueness from the drama? M.M.: Yes! We do get feedback from the other sessions and people and in general this comes across in the time they spend with us. P.T.: Thanks Mickey! Look forward to seeing you there!

P.T. Reporter Tina Dastur meets the talented Jehangir Jehangir, drummer for Baycity Lights in this exclusive P.T. Chat.

An interview with Jehangir Jehangir, drummer of the popular Mumbai-based

what drew him to the drums, and other such intrigues. P.T.: Hi Jehangir! What are your earliest memories of drumming and how did you get into it? And why the drum in

J.J.: My earliest memory of drumming was on my Super Calcutta Drum Kit playing a Nirvana song with my cousin, Ardeshir, on guitar in my bedroom. I got into drumming incidentally when I saw the band that I am playing for now perform at my school fun fair... I guess you can say it’s come full circle in a way.P.T.: Are you a Mumbai Boy?J.J.: Completely and totally a Mumbai boy, and intend to be so my entire life. P.T.: and any memories of what got you so

J.J.: Well, I was given a snare drum by my uncle, Kavas, for my Navjote. Before that, I used to always jam with him using plastic swords as drum sticks on a sofa, so I guess you could say it all started back then. Also, I have always been inclined towards performing since my parents have been heavily into theatre.P.T.: Tell me about your early years as a drummer. How hard was it

Community Coverage12SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2014

The celebrations of Jamshedi Navroze at the Parsi Ward of J. J.

Group of Hospitals undertook a modern, technological turn when the ward-in-charge and caretaker Mrs. Arnavaz Mistry displayed the various facets of the work that she does at the ward with a power point presentation. Each slide of the presentation was an eye-opener for the hundred strong supporters and well-wishers of the ward who had graced this occasion.

She summed up her presentation by reiterating that her goal in life was to serve the residents of the ward with total commitment and devotion, which she intended doing till her last breath.

Earlier Mrs. Zarin Havewala while introducing Arnavaz and acknowledging her contribution to the Parsi Ward said that other than

her 2 biological children, Arnavaz has 45 more. And whereas her two daughters on whom she doted when they were young, do not need her constant care anymore, the remaining 45 would need her care and affection all their lives.

Sir Jamshetji Jeejibhoy recalled the days when the ward was a desolate, dingy place where even destitutes were wary of habitation. Even the doctors were hesitant to step into the dreary, grimy site.

BPP Trustee Mr. Khojeste Mistree, while indicating that it has been two years since he has been attending the celebrations at the ward, informed the gathering that the UN’s General Assembly has recognized Nowruz as the international spring festival of Persian origin.

BPP Trustee Mr. Yazdi

Desai who attended the celebrations with his wife Anahita, commended the extra-ordinary work done by Mrs. Arnavaz Mistry and said that just as these days dynamic personalities in various

Achievement Award’, we should all join hands to confer the award to Mrs. Mistry for her meritorious services.

Dr. Mrs. Rekha Davar recalled her long association with the ward right from the time when her husband Dr.

Gustad Davar was the Dean of the J. J. Group of Hospitals.

Mr. Bomi Dotiwala, a long time supporter of the ward, assured Mrs. Mistry that any time she needs him he would be at the service of the ward 24/7.

Mrs. Jini Daruwala, a relative of one of the residents of the ward, in her profoundly moving short address, said that the Community owes its gratitude to two individuals: Sir Jamshetji Jeejibhoy whose ancestors have made this vast place available not only for the Community members, but also for all the other Indians in need of medical care, as also Mrs. Arnavaz Mistry who has accomplished this stupendous task of taking such good care of the ward.

Finally, Arnavaz’s daughter Ms Yasmin summed up her mother’s incomparable contribution by remarking

currently ongoing at Allbless Baug, Mumbai. A 4-day event, this unique exhibition on Zoroastrianism commenced on the 10th of April and is due to conclude on the 13th. The exhibition will be showcasing myriad aspects of the religion, some of which include the history of Iranian Kings (Peshdadian, Kayanian, Archaemenian, Parthian, and Sasdanian Dynasties included), the arrival of the Parsis at the shores of Sanjan, various rituals (like the Jashan, Navar, and Maratab, the Vendidad, Mutakd, Dokhmenashini, and Navjote/Wedding ceremonies), the different

Zarathustra and Dastoorji Kukadaru, among others. Also on display will be an Agiary model depicting the Sanctum Sanctorum, the home of our sacred bull (Varasyaji), and 3-D friezes and table top models and texts of various iconic moments in Parsi history (like the story of King Cyrus the Great and the Cyrus Cylinder, King Darius the Great and the Naqsh-e-Rustom, and the epic story of Rustom and Sohrab to name a few). The exhibition intricately showcases a slew of historic Parsi events over the centuries, most of which we Zoroastrians are blissfully unaware of. Parsi Times feels that this exhibition is a must-visit and we hope to see the Community thronging there this weekend!

19Sometimes, it so happens that when you are typing something, you

accidentally erase it. Or sometimes, the app in which you are typing suddenly crashes, and you lose everything that you had typed. With your own Type Machine, it is never a problem.

Type Machine saves everything you type in every app. Open it at any time to find old entries. Filter them by app. Drag the history slider to see what you typed letter by letter. Tap to copy. Never lose a piece of text again!

The app quietly logs every keystroke that you type in any Android App. But when you need to revisit the typed matter, you can just go to it and find it all there! It is discreet enough not to save the passwords that you type in any app. But you can password protect your own old entries, so that if your phone gets into the wrong hands, others will be unable to see your history.

Essentially, a boon for shaky hands and crashing apps!
