In our 60th Anniversary year, PFT makes history by staging its first ever Autumn production - and there could be no better way to begin this exciting new development than with a revival of the best selling show in PFT’s 60 year history: Whisky Galore – A Musical! Critically acclaimed, much loved and hugely popular, make sure you join us (and the folk from the Toddays) to raise a glass to PFT’s newest Autumn entertainment!

And there are thrills outdoors as well this Autumn. Transitions, The Enchanted Forest sound and light show, takes place this year in our very own Explorers Garden. This truly spectacular event gets better with each passing year, so prepare to be enthralled by fantastic sights and amazing original sounds in the many unusual and surprising spaces located throughout our unique 6 acre woodland garden.

Following the huge success last year of our spectacular first panto, Cinderella, we have dreamed up another magical treat for this festive season: Sleeping Beauty. A traditional, fun-filled family panto, expect amazing sets and dazzling costumes, a host of colourful characters . . . and without giving too much away, be prepared to boogie! Book early to ensure you get the best seats!

Fresh from a tour of China, we welcome back Scotland’s own Ballet West to perform the ever-popular Swan Lake. Opera lovers will be delighted to learn that Swansea City Opera return for two nights with An Evening of Romantic Opera (including Puccini, Verdi and Bizet) and Mozart’s magnificent Così Fan Tutte.

Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond tribute bands are joined on the PFT stage this

Season by living legends Alvin Stardust and Gallagher & Lyle, together with very special guest appearances from favourite Scots actress Hannah Gordon and the popular cookery author Josceline Dimbleby.

Mountaineering legend Sir Chris Bonington returns to the Winter Words Festival in 2012, as does archaeologist, historian, author and broadcaster Neil Oliver. Award-winning chef and food writer Sue Lawrence also makes an appearance, together with veteran Scots politician Dennis Canavan – just some of the headline authors and wordsmiths featuring in Winter Words 2012. See page 19 for further details.

Active Arts workshops span a broad range of subjects including Digital Photography, Drawing and Watercolour Painting! See pages 4 and 5 for full details.

And if all this wasn’t enough, the 2012 Summer Season follows with the May opening of the hilarious smash-hit musical, Little Shop Of Horrors!

Enchanted Forest 2011

Perthshire Big Tree Country’s award-winning sound and light show, The Enchanted Forest is a feast for your senses. Taking place in the spectacular autumnal setting of its new venue for 2011, the Explorers Garden at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, this is a unique opportunity to experience the outdoors, at night, amidst breathtaking imagery.

This year’s show, Transitions, will set your senses buzzing with dazzling visuals, sumptuous sounds and interactive displays. With lighting design by the award-winning Simon Wilkinson, and an original music score by R. J. Josceline Dimbleby is one of the country’s most successful and creative cookery authors.

She has written 24 books, including the first cookery books ever to be sold in Sainsbury’s stores - 2 million copies sold to date! Josceline was food columnist for the Sunday Telegraph for over 15 years and is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4 on programmes such as Woman’s Hour and Book of the Week.

Orchards in the Oasis is Josceline’s enlightening and absorbing account of her lifelong love affair with food. Packed with flavour, humour and adventure, this is a journey that will take you from Josceline’s childhood in Damascus to family life in Devon. It is interspersed with 70 irresistible recipes (with photography by Jason Lowe) from the diverse cuisines she has experienced on her travels.

There will be a book signing and a chance to meet Josceline after the show.

Drawing on her highly popular performances of A Year To Remember (celebrating the highlights of the calendar), Hannah Gordon presents a sparkling evening of readings laced with her own brand of charm from material by writers as diverse as Willy Russell, Siegfried Sassoon, Noel Coward, John Betjeman and Joyce Grenfell.

Her numerous television appearances include My Wife Next Door, Telford’s Change, Joint Account, Upstairs, Downstairs, My Family And Other Animals and several Morecambe and Wise Christmas shows. On London’s West End stage she played Shirley Valentine, Lady Chiltern in An Ideal Husband, Miss Tina in The Aspern Papers, and Mrs Higgins in My Fair Lady. In the second half of the evening, Hannah will be in conversation with the distinguished broadcaster Mary Marquis, whose interviewing experience has involved many of the great names in British public life, and who, like Hannah, is a Fellow of the RSAMD.

Three Women in search of a life . . .Three Jewish, New York widows meet once a month for tea before visiting their husband’s graves . . . Lucille and Ida in their own very different ways are ready for a new life and perhaps a new man - or in Lucille’s case, ‘men’! However when Ida meets Sam and romance starts to blossom . . . Lucille and Doris go into action! They know what’s best for Ida . . . or think they do!

This poignant comedy drama will definitely have you laughing and perhaps crying a little too!

Just Do It Theatre was formed in 2010 to indulge a passion for acting and to raise money for charitable causes. Fran Norris, Ruth McLaren and Wendy Huggins were most recently seen at PFT in successful productions of ‘Allo ‘Allo, Dick Barton – Special Agent and Paras Over The Barras.

All proceeds will be donated to charity.

Catriona McKay (Scottish harp) and Chris Stout (Shetland fiddle) play a dynamic and adventurous exploration of traditional Scottish music.

Deeply rooted in traditional and classical styles, Chris and Catriona are long term members of the dynamic Shetland supergroup Fiddlers Bid.

Having performed together for 15 years, this concert will feature many songs from their self-penned 2010 album White Nights, which is a modulation between past and present, between Summer and Winter, between reliability and risk!

Expect music inspired by the heightened senses during the long, light nights of summer in the north, and by contrast, music which celebrates reflections of winter landscapes and sounds.

An opera of comedy, splendid confusion and political satire, based on the love between a lowly shepherd, Strephon, and Phyllis, a ward of court who is also adored by the Lord Chancellor and the entire House of Lords, who naturally oppose their marriage. Strephon’s mother, Iolanthe, happens to be a fairy and together with the Fairy Queen and all the fairy ring, they play havoc with the Upper House until all is resolved at the final curtain!

Gilbert & Sullivan were at the height of their creative powers when writing Iolanthe, their seventh collaboration. When I Went To The Bar; The Law Is The True Embodiment, The Nightmare Song and When Britain Really Ruled The Waves are all well-loved songs - and the finale to Act I is probably the best in the repertoire!

Swan Lake Ballet West

Using Tchaikovsky’s stirring score and a moving adaptation of the original choreography, Swan Lake is one of the most famous and best loved of all classical ballet works.Swan Lake is a wonderfully dark story of an impossible love affair between a prince and a beautiful swan maiden. On the eve of his 21st birthday, the prince escapes his royal duty by running into a moonlit forest. He finds a lake of enchanted swans, falling in love with their beautiful but doomed queen, Odette.

He cannot free her from the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart and, in the final act, the lovers plunge into the depths of a magic lake to be reunited in death.

Ballet West is an established ballet company that uses a mix of professional dancers with students in the final stages of their dance training. Over recent years, the company has developed a significant reputation for producing very high quality classical ballet, which is developing loyal audiences in venues throughout Scotland and overseas.

Songs, Stories and Famous FolkOver a couple of very entertaining hours, the man best known for singing Fitba’ Crazy, hosting The White Heather Club,and traipsing o’er moor and mountain on radio and TV will recount numerous unusual and surprising stories and anecdotes about his life and work, combining interviews with the likes of John Wayne and Tarzan with songs, music and visual aids to create a truly relaxed and humorous show.

Hugely influential in the folk music revival, Jimmie has toured the world appearing in countless venues, from the Albert and Festival Halls to the smallest folk clubs. Latterly Jimmie has composed theme music for radio and hosted the long running, double award-winning show MacGregor’s Gathering.

This will be an unforgettable night of sheer entertainment in the company of the inimitable, eighty years young Jimmie MacGregor.

More on Corney & Barrow Established 1766 in Ayr and originally named Oliphant and Co., Corney & Barrow quickly became the west coast of Scotland’s major importer of wine, port and sherry, all shipped in its own vessels which plied their trade on the sea routes of Europe. Their wine cellars, built at the inception of the company, are the oldest commercial cellars in Scotland and it is highly likely that that the local customs officer, a young Mr. Robert Burns, would have been a regular visitor! A comic tale of deception, doubt, devotion and all the intricate twists and turns that inevitably go with a romantic tale of love, Così Fan Tutte tells the story of how a cynical old man (Don Alfonso) leads two naïve officers into a scandalous wager, in order to prove that it is against a woman’s nature to be faithful: ‘Così fan tutte’ – ‘they’re all like that’. As the story unfolds, we see just how well he succeeds: at first the women are unwilling, but later . . . well, you’ll have to wait and see!
