Practical Farmers of Iowa is hiring a Digital Media Coordinator For over 30 years, Practical Farmers of Iowa has worked to equip farmers across the state (and beyond) to build resilient farms and communities. Farmers lead the exchange of experience and knowledge at Practical Farmers; we secure extensive media featuring a broad spectrum of farmers to highlight innovations aimed at transforming agriculture in Iowa and beyond. We are seeking a diligent, respectful and passionate professional to join our team as digital media coordinator. This is a new position, created to bolster and expand our online presence as we work to amplify PFI’s impact in the agricultural community. The digital media coordinator will join a dynamic, hard-working and enthusiastic team, and will help bring Practical Farmers’ communications program to a higher capacity as our organization and the demand for resilient farming systems grows. Practical Farmers offers a flexible, fast-paced work environment with opportunities for independent initiative and professional development. The digital media coordinator will draw on and contribute to an extensive and ever-growing collection of content – written, photos, videos, podcasts and more – featuring the knowledge and creativity of PFI farmers. The successful candidate will use that content to maintain a strong online presence and execute specific outreach and marketing campaigns tailored to accomplish our mission. The digital media coordinator will: 1) manage and produce content for Practical Farmers’ website; 2) coordinate email newsletters and create email marketing campaigns; 3) manage PFI’s social media channels, including engaging with PFI’s social media community and posting content regularly; and 4) design quality outreach materials for both online and print use. This position reports to the communications and marketing director and will be part of PFI’s growing communications team. Duties Manage Practical Farmers’ website and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) Coordinate and produce content for email newsletters and email marketing campaigns Compile data and analyze metrics for web, social media and email marketing campaigns Design quality outreach materials for print and online use (e.g. infographics, memes, fliers, advertisements, reports and other material) Enhance access to PFI’s online resources through improved organization and search engine optimization (SEO) Facilitate online community-building among PFI members Work with program staff to help meet program goals using online communication tools

• Cover events for Practical Farmers – such as field days and workshops – to produce timely, quality online stories

• Continuously learn about and use new online media tools

• Ensure consistency and quality of content on our online platforms • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Characteristics

• At least three years of experience coordinating digital media and/or websites

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications or marketing-related field • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop

• Experience with WordPress or similar website software • Experience with SEO and use of Google Analytics or similar software

• Experience with Constant Contact, MailChimp or similar email marketing software • Strong writing background • Strong graphic design background

• Ability to adhere to style and brand guidelines • Excellent analytical and project management skills

• Strong attention to detail • Experience with social media scheduling software, online forms management, customer

relationship management (CRM) software and photography experience preferred

This is a full-time position based in our Ames office. Salary is competitive, based on experience and qualifications. This position requires travel (mostly in Iowa), a valid driver’s license, the ability to lift 50 pounds and the ability to walk long distances. The position reports to Nick Ohde, communications and marketing director. Practical Farmers is a family-friendly employer.
