Petroleum Geology of Indonesia : Current KnowledgeRegular HAGI Course
Bali, 7 – 11 December 2009
Context
• Petroleum geology is the application of geology to the exploration for and production of oil and gas (Selley, 1985)
• Petroleum geology of Indonesia : discusses the geology of Indonesia, the sedimentary basins of Indonesia, their all aspects important for oil and gas occurrences, exploration and production.
Petroleum Geology of Indonesia : Current KnowledgeRegular HAGI Course
Bali, 7 – 11 December 2009
Objectives
• To make you familiar with the overall geology of Indonesia• To acquaint you with the petroleum geology of Indonesia• To introduce you with some details of the basins in Indonesia• To enhance your ability to do a work of regional geology• To make you aware on the current status of EP in Indonesia• To enjoy it all !
Principle of Analogue Basins
• SE Asian basins share a common tectonic history and consequently display similar stratigraphic patterns, trap styles and hydrocarbon charge systems.
• The arbitrary political divisions and local stratigraphicnomenclature schemes tend to mask the geological simplicity of the region.
• With a better understanding of the regional geology, plays and exploration concepts established in one basin should be applicable in less explored basins in the region.
