October 17, 2010The Hon. Andrew Cuomoc/o Andrew Cuomo 2010Church Street StationP.O. Box 683New York, NY 10008
In anticipation of your successful campaign for Governor-of New York we, the undersigned, residentsand visitors to the Lower West Side of Manhattan, call for your immediate attention to the closing of theDistrict's medical center and trauma center, St. Vincent's Manhattan Hospital,
Concern is increasing every day for the lives and safety of residents of Chelsea, Greenwich Village,SoHo and TriBeCa, as well as for the district's many "temporary residents"--notably tourists, workers in theFinancial Center, and the populations of our several colleges and universities. There is no medical center offirst resort for emergencies in th e Holland and Lincoln Tunnels .. Our elderly residents have been profoundlyimpacted. Our children's lives are endangered by the absence of timely pediatric emergency services.Manhattan's remaining hospital emergency rooms and clinics are struggling to meet the increased patient loa
We call your attention to recent articles in City Limits, the Daily News and others on the care crisis thhas arisen since St. Vincent's Medical Center closed in April.
We regard the existing hospital campus at 7th Avenue and West 12th Street as irreplaceable and themost expeditious and ideal location for there-establishment ofthe facility.
We expected leadership on the issue of our hospital by our elected officials and public health officialswho are responsible for our safety. But to date, passivity and resignation continue where immediate actionshould have been taken to protect our lives and prevent needless suffering and deaths.
We urge you to break your silence on this issue and to accomplish the replacement of our Lower WesSide medical center and trauma center in the first phase of your new administration.

In anticipation of your successful campaign: for Governor of New York we, the undersigned, residentsand visitors to the Lower West Side of Manhattan, call for your immediate attention to the closing of theDistrict's medical center and trauma center, S1.Vincent's Manhattan HospitaL
Concern is increasing every day for the lives and safety of residents of Chelsea, Greenwich Village,SoRo and TriBeCa, as well as for the district's many "temporary residents"--notably tourists, workers in theFinancial Center, and the populations of our several colleges and universities. There is no medical center offirst resort for emergencies in the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, Our elderly residents have been profoundlyimpacted. Our children's lives are endangered by the absence of timely pediatric emergency services,Manhattan's remaining hospital emergency rooms and clinics are struggling to meet the increased patient load.
We call your attention to recent articles in City Limits, the Daily News and others on the care crisis thathas arisen since St. Vincent's Medical Center closed in April.
We regard the existing hospital campus at 7th Avenue and West 12th Street as irreplaceable and themost expeditious and ideal location for the re-establishment of the facility.
We expected leadership on the issue of our hospital by our elected officials and public health officialswho are responsible for our safety. But to date, passivity and resignation continue where immediate actionshould have been taken to protect our lives and prevent needless suffering and deaths.
We urge you to break your silence on this issue and to accomplish the replacement of our Lower WestSide medical center and trauma center in the first phase of your new administration.Sincerely,
