Was born into a brood of five brothers and one sister. At age of four, Tchaikovsky began taking

Piano lessons and showed note-worthy talent and eventually surpassed his own teacher’s abilities.

In 1861, he studied harmony and became a student to Nikolai Zaremba who later became

directorOf the conservatory. Tchaikovosky enrolled at the St. Petersburg Conservatory the following year,

Eventually studying composition with the Russian pianist, compose, and conductor Anton

Rubinstein.In 1866, he accepted a professorship of harmony at the new conservatory, and shortly afterward
