I implemented PRINCE2 project management training for all technical staff. Successfully managing a project team of 14 people to achieve very challenging timescales in a difficult technical and commercial environment.The role involved managing the subsea controls system engineering design, engineering detail design, procurement, manufacture, assembly, testing procedures, testing, FAT, EFAT, SIT and delivery of the subsea controls system. The FATs, EFATs and SIT were witnessed by onsite Client representatives.

Shell Enterprise Corrib, West of IrelandProject Manager for the successful supply of a complete subsea control system for a new development off the West coast of Ireland. The project value was £8 million.The role involved the subsea controls system engineering design, engineering detail design, procurement, manufacture, assembly, testing procedures, testing, FAT, EFAT, SIT and delivery of the subsea controls system. Once delivered, the system had to be placed in storage due to planning issues at the installation site. The project was extended to involve the writing of maintenance, preservation and management procedures for the long term storage of all equipment.

ExxonMobil Skene North Bundle Replacement, UK North SeaManaging the successful re-supply of one of the electrical and hydraulic hose bundles for the Skene field development due to the loss of an umbilical section during tow out. The replacement bundle components needed sourcing to tight deadlines to meet a very tight 2002 installation window.

ExxonMobil Gawain, UK North SeaWorking with ExxonMobil successfully managing an investigation into a subsea umbilical fault in equipment supplied by others on the Thames Platform. The investigation required co-ordination of technical staff and equipment to tight offshore activity windows.The role involved the use of Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) to detect the location of the fault in the subsea umbilical. Once the fault was located, the section of the umbilical was retrieved and a replacement section inserted before being replaced on the seabed.

ExxonMobil Zinc, US Gulf of MexicoSuccessfully managing the production of a spare topside Master Control Station for the Zinc platform in the US Gulf of Mexico. The project was particularly challenging in resourcing “obsolete” engineering and materials for an old installation.The role involved the MCS engineering design, detail design, procurement, manufacture, assembly, testing procedures, testing, FAT, delivery, removal of the old MCS, platform SIT, commissioning and operational support for the new MCS.

ExxonMobil, Skene, UK North SeaWorking with ABB Vetco Gray Trees, successfully managing a complete 5 well subsea control system brownfield tie-back to the Beryl Alpha Platform. The project was for the supply of topside and subsea equipment, including engineering, procurement and construction activities with challenging timescales and budgets. In addition, extensive interface work was necessary during the engineering and construction phases. The equipment was successfully delivered on time, meeting the customer’s installation window.The role involved managing the subsea controls system engineering design, engineering detail design, procurement, manufacture, assembly, testing, FAT, EFAT, SIT, delivery, installation, testing procedures, testing and commissioning and early operational support of the subsea controls system by site technicians. The FATs, EFATs and SIT were witnessed by onsite Client representatives.

Strachan & Henshaw, Bristol, EnglandSenior EngineerConoco Norway Inc., Oslo Norway - Conoco Heidrun Tension Leg Platform, Norwegian North seaWorking as a lead consultant in Oslo, Norway, with Norwegian Contractors (EPCI Contractor on behalf of Conoco Norway Inc.) on the concept design of the Heidrun TLP tether top and bottom connectors, then project management of the connector contractor (Kvaerner).The most northerly TLP installation in the Norwegian North Sea, the project was technically challenging due to the onerous installation conditions for the platform.The project provided a number of management challenges working with an international team of consultants and suppliers from Norway, USA, France, Germany, Japan and the UK.

Earl & Wright, London – Conoco Post Hutton TLP Installation and Hook Up StudySix month secondment to work with Earl & Wright on the installation and hook up of an externally connected tension leg platform. The secondment led to the request for consultancy services for the Heidrun TLP detaild above.

Exxon EDIPS & BP DISPSThree years design and development of deep water remote operated (diverless) hydraulic and electro-hydraulic umbilical and flying lead connectors and stabplates for subsea control systems (BP DISPS and Exxon EDIPS) and tether connecting systems for Tension Leg Platforms (Conoco UK - post Hutton - & Exxon EDIPS).The role involved the conceptual designs, detail design, manufacture, assembly, test, FAT, delivery, SIT to an installation contractor of deepwater distribution equipment.

The all metal seal mateable subsea connectors were successfully installed on BP Foinaven and have been working well since.
