Thank you for a great kick-off to the 2013-2014 school year! As you know, we are working hard to improveour daily attendance at Petal Primary School. Building the habit of good attendance will help to ensure yourchild’s success in school. Good attendance will help children do well all the way through high school, college, and even when they get a job. Research shows that students can fall behind if they keep missing just a dayor two every few weeks. Starting from kindergarten, too many absences can affect a student’s academicperformance. You’ve heard the old saying, “Old habits are hard to break”. We want to make every attempt toprevent poor attendance habits from becoming a pattern that will become difficult to change. Suggestions forhelping to establish these good attendance habits include setting a regular bed time and morning routine, laying out clothes and packing backpacks the night before, and communicating to your child the importanceof being at school and staying at school all day. At the end of the first nine weeks, students with goodattendance will receive a gold medal. Stay tuned!!!

We work hard to help our students grow in all areas. Our goal is to ensure that all children reach high levelsof success. We have created a learning environment that will encourage active learning, positive socialinteractions, and self-motivation with the utmost emphasis on a happy, safe, and nurturing atmosphere.

We had a big crowd every night for each of our Parent Information Nights. Your commitment and involvementis critical to the success of our school. It is both a privilege and an honor to have this opportunity to beinvolved in the education of your child.

Kayden is a young man who daily exhibits the qualities necessary to be a successful student.

As a second grader, he understands what it means to treat others well and to always strive to

do his best. He is a model for all the students at Petal Primary School. Kayden is motivated

to learn, works extremely hard, and always has a positive attitude. His pleasant disposition

and willingness to go the extra mile proves that Kayden is "Above the Line" . We are

pleased to recognize him as our Academic Achievement Panther for Petal Primary School.

The goal for Box Tops this year is to raise $9000. To reach this goal each child would only need to bring in ten Box Tops each month. If you can send more, great!

Please make sure Box Tops show the letter code in the corner as well as the expiration date.

Labels for Education should include the point value and the UPC code. Check our Facebook page for examples. Place all Box Tops and Labels in an envelope or a clean, unused baggie marked with your child’s name, grade and teacher. No need to have them in groups of 50, and yes, you can put Labels and Box Tops in the same bag. Just make sure the teacher’s name is on it.

Please check your packages before discarding for Box Tops or Labels. They are on more than just

food items. Ask grandparents, friends and neighbors to help save. This is free money for our

school so don’t toss it away!

Show School SpiritTattoos will be sold Thursdays before home games. Please send your child’s money in an envelope or baggie with their name and teacher marked on it. Your child’s tattoo(s) will be sent home to you inside your child’s red folder Thursday. You may buy tattoos for all dates at one time if you would like, as well as for other children in your home. You may apply

the tattoos to the children on Fridays of home games only on their face, arm or hand. Instructions for application are

listed on the back of the tattoos.

Box Tops winning class was Mrs. Floyd’s class! They were able to keep Boxer the Box Top Bear in their classroom for the

entire month of September.

August Winners

Labels for Education winning class was Mrs. Farris’ class! They kept Eddie the Labels for Education Bear during September.
