Writing – part 1

• In this part you have to complete the

second sentence so that it means the

same as the first sentence.

• This part is NOT about writing. It is about

GRAMMAR.

• The questions are TRANSFORMATIONS,

for example changing a sentence from

passive to active.

• You can use ONE, TWO, or THREE words

ONLY.

• There are five transformation questions to

answer.

• Each question is worth 1% of the total PET

mark.

• A spelling mistake in an answer means a

zero for that question.

• You only have 5 - 10 minutes to complete

Part 1 so you have to be fast.

• Read the first sentence.

• Check you understand the meaning of it

and then read the second sentence and

find the grammar and vocabulary that are

the same and different in both sentences.

• Comparatives, as... as, the same as and the verb prefer

• Past simple, present perfect, never and the first time

• Passive to active and occasionally active to passive

• So do I / So does she

• Close to / far from / near
