Introduction

The purpose of this project is to develop a stove water heater capable of efficiently heating water using excess cooking heat for the villagers in rural living conditions.

Villagers obtain their water from mountain springs with water temperatures of about 50 °F (10 °C).

A warm water source will greatly improve the frequency of bathing and quality of health for the villagers.

Water Flow

Tank

Oven

How it Works

• The tank sits above the stove

•Cold water flows down through the fire and is heated

•The hot water rises and the water begins to flow.

Question: How much pipe do we need in the oven to heat the water to 130° F?

Page 4: Peruvian Water Heater

Assumptions

The pipe that runs from the stove to the tank is perfectly insulated.

qs is constant within the stove

Constant mass flow rate

Conclusions

2.57 feet of pipe is required inside the oven to meet the desired temperature

qs = 1001.72 W is required from the fireThis is very possible to construct and will
