FAMILY

Quechuas form a huge family called Ayllu. The residential unit is called Llacta. Parents arrange their children’s marriage. The groom (boy) must provide a service to his fiance’s (girl) parents. They have a close friendship, extending the Ayllu, and they keep it giving goods and services. This friendship is so important that it is considered as blood ties.

The majority of Peruvians are catholic.

Quechuas are polytheistic, that is, they believe in a last God, Viracocha, and deify Nature as a being: Inti (Sun), Quilla (Moon), Chucuilla or Illapa (Ray) and Chasca (star).Pachamama (abundance) is the God of Mother Earth.They used to sacrifice animals (Llamas) and even little children.
