Suggested Itinerary:
Trail System. A guided walk into the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica natural area, where
you will discover the Amazon Basin. This trail offers an excellent introduction to the
forest environment, winding past impressive trees such as the Shihuahuaco, and the
strangely beautiful strangler fig, offering excellent opportunities for bird watching and
observing exotic insects.

afternoon boat ride downriver from the

while you search for nightjars, owls,
capybaras and big caiman.
We will gather at The Eco Center and

Rest in bed or rise early — the choice is yours. Breakfast begins at 5:30 a.m., for those
who want to avoid the heat and enjoy nature at its fullest. A full buffet breakfast is
served from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

(1.8 mile) trail through the wildlife-rich reserve and arrive at the breathtaking oxbow
lake called Lake Sandoval. Here, you will have an excellent opportunity to see the
endangered giant river otter. Also residing in and around the lake are the rare red howler
monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, point-tailed palm creepers, and side-neck
turtles. Return to the Inkaterra lodge for lunch.
After lunch, consider visiting the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy and Anaconda Walk.
Ascending the first tower, 29 meters above the forest ground, you begin your encounter
with the treetop realm. For more than a quarter of a mile, you will literally walk through
the rainforest canopy on a suspension bridge network linking eight observation
platforms. During this hour-and-a-half expedition, be on the lookout for bright toucans,
woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys and the three-toed sloth. If you wish you may extend
your excursion and appreciate the sunset from one of the towers.
After your descent from the Canopy, experience the Anaconda Walk for about 30 minutes
along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the Aguajales swamps. In this lush eco system,
you may observe the various species of amphibians, birds, mammals, abundant flora,
trees and there is a possibility to see serpents of this flooded marshland. The walk

one and a half hours, explore the rainforest along the banks of a winding, dark-water
creek that is home to many piranha, caiman, turtles and birds, until the Sanipanga
landing point. Navigate your way back downstream, appreciating the abundant flora and
fauna along the way. You will return to Gamitana Farm to do a short guided tour to see
how local farmers raise fruits and vegetables. You will also have the opportunity to
produce banana flour that the local communities consume. Return to the lodge to enjoy

Reserve at night for an approximately 2-hour excursion. Biological activity differs greatly
between night and day in the Amazonian ecosystem. Venture into the forest and
experience the mystery of the animal activity that awakens in the rainforest after dark,
enhancing animal resources to create new adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal
forest sounds and spot species that only emerge at night. Return to the lodge.

Visit Ollantaytambo town, the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the Americas,
which shows the best surviving example of Inca city planning. Its fortress, with its
extremely well built walls, was both a temple and a fortress to the Incas. The spectacular
steep terraces that guard the Inca complex mark one of the few places where the
Conquerors lost a major battle. The temple area is at the top of steep terracing, which
helped to provide excellent defenses. Stones used for these buildings were brought from
a quarry high up on the opposite side of the Urubamba River - an incredible feat
involving the efforts of thousands of workers. The complex was still under construction
by the time of the conquest and was never completed.

In the morning, take a half-day private guided journey throughout the city of Cusco and
nearby archaeological sites. You will visit the recently restored cathedral, located next to

famous QoriKancha, or Temple of the Sun, originally the Inca Empire’s richest temple,
where, then the Spanish built a Catholic church.

Afterwards, visit Cusco’s main ruins in the outskirts of the city. Sacsayhuamán, which in
Quechua means “satisfied falcon,” is thought to be of religious and military significance;
it is the most impressive ruin close to the city of Cusco. Thought to be a hunting lodge,
Puca Pucará, which means “red fort” in Quechua, is a rock structure that looks pink in
some lights. Later visit Qenko, which means “zigzag” in Quechua and consists of a large
limestone riddled with niches, steps and carvings, including zigzagging channels that
gave the site its name. Finally, visit Tambomachay (Cavern Lodge), commonly referred
to as the Baños del Inca or Inca Baths. Tambomachay was a site used for ritual bathing,
with an excellent quality of the stonework suggesting that its use was restricted to the
higher nobility for ceremonial occasions. The last stop is back at the city’s artistic district
of San Blas and browse its galleries and artisan shops.

Enjoy a guided visit to Uros floating isles on Lake Titicaca, located on the National
Reserve of Titicaca on the Bay of Puno. Made from reeds called totora these Islands are
home of the Uros community which pre-dates the Incan civilization. They call themselves
kot-suña or people of the lake who claim to have "black blood", are consequently
immune to the cold and consider themselves the owners of the lake and its waters. They
continue living on the islands by fishing, weaving and now, tourism.
Lunch at Local restaurant
Take a boat ride to the island of Taquile, where you can see the beautiful mountain
ranges of Cordillera Real of Bolivia and its snow peaks. This traditional island is inhabited
by islanders of Quechua origin, as opposed to the majority of population of Puno who are
of Aymara origin. Taquile lives in its own world, completely detached from the rest of the
world, maintaining their ancient Quechua traditions. Its scenery is stunning, red soil in
contrast with the intense blue of the lake, the sky and a striking background of
snowcapped mountains of the Cordillera Real. On the higher part of the island are
remains of ancient stone buildings, somewhat like quarters and roads. One can also view
stone tombs. Enjoy lunch prepared by the Taquile locals.

On your private transfer from your hotel to Juliaca Airport, if time permits, brief stop at
Sillustani, a peninsula facing the Umayu lagoon, a short distance from Puno. It was a
burial ground of the Colla tribe that lived in the region long before the Inca expansion.
The phallic structures known as chullpas symbolized life and birth. These Chullpas are
impressive ancient tombs from the pre-Inca period. Built from a mixture of stone and
adobe they served as burial places for chiefs and important people, and later the site was
inhabited by the Incas, who made their own version of these towers. That is why there

are two types - the rough, smaller towers, and the smooth, larger ones made by the
Incas. The biggest tower took about 50 years to make and consists of rocks weighing
