PERSPECTIVE DRAWING

WHAT IS PERSPECTIVE?

Perspective - is a technique that uses a set

of rules to create an illusion of depth. This

allows objects to appear as if they are

receding, the further away the objects are.

Its a way of showing distances in a drawing

or painting.

EXAMPLE

EXAMPLE

•HORIZON LINE- is the viewer’s eye level in

the picture.

TERMS TO KNOW IN PERSPECTIVE

•CONVERGING LINES - are implied lines that project at

the sides of an object back into space. They always come

together or at the vanishing point

•Examples of the converging lines in several pictures.

•VANISHING POINT – this is always on the

horizon line and it is where all the lines seem to

meet.

It is where all things appear to disappear. It

represents an infinite distance away.

TYPES OF PERSPECTIVE

1.One point perspective.

2.Two point perspective.

3. Three point perspective

(1) ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE

THIS IS WHEN THE IMAGE CONTAINS

ONLY ONE VANISHING POINT ON THE

HORIZON LINE.

THIS TYPE OF PERSPECTIVE IS TYPICALLY USED

FOR IMAGES OF ROADS, RAILWAY TRACKS,

HALLWAYS, OR BUILDINGS VIEWED SO THAT THE

FRONT IS DIRECTLY FACING THE VIEWER.

(2) TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE

In this type of perspective, there exist two points from

which an object’s lines radiate from. In short the

organization of the image has two vanishing points

and the illusion of depth can be observed on sides.

(3) THREE POINT PERSPECTIVE

In three-point perspective there are 3 vanishing

points. Two on the horizon line; and the other can

exists above or below the horizon line that the vertical

lines disappear to.
