How would you describe this carpet?
Describe this tree.
By putting different faces on the same tree what have I given it?
I have given it
I have tried to make it more like a
When we give things that are not human, human qualities it is called
When we use personification we say that we have
Something.
Here are some ways to personify a pen.
The pen across the paper. crawled
The pen across the paper. raced
She pushed hard against the man.
She tried with all her strength to remove his coat.
I do not fear the wind.
I am silver and exact.I have no preconceptions.Whatever I see I swallow immediatelyJust as it is, unmisted by love or dislike.I am not cruel, only truthful.
Read the following personification poem by Sylvia Plath.
Can you guess what she is talking about?
The Hungry SiteBy Tino aged 11
As I see the JCBs slaughter the petrified bricks like a famished tiger,The glistening windows gossip away like two old ladies,The shabby skip torments the containers like the cat does to the mice,The triangular roof whinged about the rain it always wants the sun the rain is such a pain,The doors open to let you in so that they can eat you today and again,The sloppy mud sucks you in like quicksand!!!!!!
By Andrew aged 10, The fire was chuckling loudlyAnd made all the water shiverIt came to me and gave me a touchAnd my skin started crying And I felt scared.
I fell to the groundThe fire laughed hardAnd left the house with a smirk And I felt scared.
Everything is in painThe couch, the curtains, the stairs. The fire had laughed once again And I felt scared.
The fire came into my room againHuffing and puffing louder than everBut I was not harmed, except for my burnsAnd I felt SCARED!
Two Sunflowers Move in the Yellow Room."Ah, William, we're weary of weather,"said the sunflowers, shining with dew."Our travelling habits have tired us.
Can you give us a room with a view?"They arranged themselves at the window
and counted the steps of the sun,and they both took root in the carpet
where the topaz tortoises run.
William Blake(1757-1827)
The Cat & The Fiddle Hey diddle, Diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,The cow jumped over the moon;
The little dog laughed To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.By Mother Goose
Can I imagine a face or limbs on the object?
The sun smiled happily
The cactus raised his hands in horror!
The evil machine munched slowly on mounds of steaming swamp.
Which of these are examples of personification?
The wind howled angrily at the earth.
I blast the music from my speakers deafening those who hear.
The tree swayed like a dancer in the wind.
The seagulls itched to look into the eye of the storm.
Fast and furious the car sped along the road.
Yes
Yes
Yes
No
No
I am a raging torrent.Shouting at the trees
Yelling at the top of my voice.
Tearing them limb from limb.
I will win this battle- I always do!
Sometimes I fool them into thinking they have won.
It makes me laugh to see the victory in their eyes.
But I always win. I am a powerful storm.
