AT AGE 21, I BEGAN STUDYING HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND PERSONALITY TYPES. MANY TIMES I’VE WONDERED WHAT MAKES PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY DO. SO, I STARTED COMPILING RESEARCH AND REFERENCE MATERIAL TO BETTER UNDERSTAND PEOPLE. FROM TIME TO TIME I REVIEW THIS QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE WHEN HAVING TO DEAL WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE.

• • • MASTERY in one's career and conscious growth simply requires that we constantly produce results beyond and out of the ordinary. Mastery is a product of consistently going beyond our limits. For most people, it starts with technical excellence in a chosen field and a commitment to that excellence. If you're willing to commit yourself to excellence, to surround yourself with things that matter, your life will change.

It's remarkable how much mediocrity we live with, surrounding ourselves with daily reminders that the average is the acceptable. Our world suffers from terminal normality. Take a moment to assess all of the things around you that promote you being "average." These are the things that keep you powerless to go beyond a "limit" you arbitrarily set for yourself. The first step to mastery is the removal of everything in your environment that represents mediocrity, removing those things that are limiting. One way is to surround yourself with friends who ask more of you than you do. Didn't some of your best teachers, coaches, parents, etc.?

Another step on the path to mastery is the removal of resentment toward masters. Develop compassion for yourself so that you can be in the presence of masters and grow from the experience, rather than comparing yourself or resenting people who have mastery, remain open and receptive; let the experience be like the planting of a seed within you that, with nourishment, will grow into your own individual master.

You see, we are all ordinary, but a master, rather than condemning himself for his "ordinariness," will embrace it and use it as a foundation for building the extraordinary. Rather than using it as an excuse for inactivity, he will use it as a vehicle for correcting which is essential in the process of attaining mastery. You must be able to correct yourself without invalidating or condemning yourself, to accept results and improve upon them. Correct, don't protect. Correction is essential to power and mastery.

Levels of Human Consciousness

The Book Power vs. Force - The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior, by David Hawkins displays the human levels of attainment each person achieves in a lifetime. Hawkins believes most people tend to operate from the same level their entire life. He states, it's unusual for a person to climb outside the level they were born with. If this is true some people are like deer who don’t venture more than one mile from where they were born. True or False, here’s what I found interesting. Some people more than others are seekers of knowledge and personal growth. Once a person enters that path, it changes the way they think about life.

2 SIDES TO THE BRAIN Our human brain contains more than 100 billion neurons. We operate out of 2 sides of the brain, the left-brain and the right brain.

Left-Brain People are: • CPA’s

• Doctors • Lawyers

• Engineers

Page 8: PERSONALITY TYPES AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR€¦ · at age 21, i began studying human behavior and personality types. many times i’ve wondered what makes people do what they do. so, i

RIGHT BRAIN PEOPLE • Artists • Architects • Designers • Clairvoyants - Persons who have developed their intuitive skills • Some have trained themselves to use both sides of the brain with the help of biofeedback programming. (See Change Your Brain Change Your Life)

For some people the right brain functions better than the left and graphic formats work better for learning. I observed this in college. Several architecture students had dyslexia and didn’t like to read, thereby using the creative side to express themselves. Left-brain people don’t have this problem.

What personality types do these people are: • Airline Pilots or the Yachtsmen who races for the Americas Cup • A Race-Car Driver who wins the Tour de France • A Mechanic who repairs Ferrari’s for a living Question: Which side of the brain do you think these people are operating from? Answer: Both.

HUMAN BEHAVIOR

Have you noticed a lot of people won’t read long articles mainly due to our fast paced lifestyles and people are just too darn busy.

Several years ago I met a 75-year old retired businessman at a party. He said he didn’t know how to use a computer, said he didn’t have to because he had a secretary. He also said he didn’t like to read. I couldn’t believe he admitted this in public to a perfect stranger. That's when I realized many people have learning disabilities, dyslexia, attention deficit disorders, etc.

PERSONALITY TYPES IT HELPS TO KNOW THE TYPES OF PEOPLE WE ASSOCIATE

The Basic Personality Types are A, B, C & D: Meyer Friedman first defined two personality types in the 1950s as Type A and Type B personalities.

• Type A Characteristics: Tendency to rush things, Intense drive to achieve one’s goals, Over-competitiveness in all areas of lives, Astonishing Physical and Mental Alertness, Getting Involved in many activities with deadlines, Constantly seek recognition & improvement.

• Type A personality, also known as the Type A Behavior Pattern, is a set of characteristics that includes being impatient, excessively time-conscious, insecure about one's status, highly competitive, aggressive, hostile, and incapable of relaxation.

Page 11: PERSONALITY TYPES AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR€¦ · at age 21, i began studying human behavior and personality types. many times i’ve wondered what makes people do what they do. so, i

• Type A are Ambitious, Aggressive, Competitive, Practical, Impatient and Self-Driven. • Type A individuals are often highly achieving workaholics who multi-task, drive themselves with deadlines, and are unhappy about the smallest of delays.

• Type A behavior is wrapped up in time urgency and impatience, which causes irritation and exasperation. They can express free-floating hostility, which can be triggered even over little incidents

• Type B characteristics are the opposites of Type A personality. • Type B’s are Relaxed, Charismatic, Easy-Going, Cheerful, Patient, too Casual and Prostrastinator’s. • Type B's are the opposite of type A's. They are relaxed, laid back and not easily stressed. While type B can be achievers also, they won't be as competitive as Type A's. Type B can delay work and do it in the last moment, some can turn into procrastinators which Type A’s can never do. • Type B personalities, in contrast, are patient, relaxed, and easy-going. There is also a Type AB mixed profile for people who cannot be clearly categorized.

• Type B people are characterized by a lack of: Drive, Ambition, Sense of Urgency, Competitive involves deadlines.

TYPE C PERSONALITY Introvert, Stress Prone, Systematic, Thoughtful, Sensitive, Cautious, Critical

• Type C’s love details and can spend a lot of time trying to find out how things work and this makes them very suitable for technical-jobs. • Type C’s are not assertive at all and they always suppress their own desires. • Type Cs are more vulnerable to depression compared to Type A & Type B.

Page 13: PERSONALITY TYPES AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR€¦ · at age 21, i began studying human behavior and personality types. many times i’ve wondered what makes people do what they do. so, i

TYPE D PERSONALITY Love Routine, Follow Orders

• Type D personalities as those who tend to "experience negative emotions like hostility, anxiety, anger, depressed mood, tension, and a negative view of themselves •Type D’s may be distressed and have a negative outlook towards life and are pessimistic. A small event that is not even noticed by type B can ruin type D's day.

• Type D might become socially withdrawn as a result of fear of rejection even if they like to be around people and are famous for suppressing their emotions and sometimes become depressed.

The idea behind the book is that you can take control of your neurological health, improve current conditions, and prevent future neurological issues.

The book breaks down the 16 brain types discussing Anxiety, Depression, OCD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Syndrome, Hyper Tension, etc. By taking better care of yourself will improve how one feels and helps with relationships.

What makes his work distinct is Dr. Amen’s study of sophisticated Computer SPECT Brain Scans. The feedback is plotted visually on a computer color monitor, so you can see visually which part of your brain is out of balance or malfunctioning (Alpha Beta Theta and Delta brain waves). If you have been in a car accident or had a concussion, one part of your brain may be shut off and/or out of balance. The book is helpful explaining ways to counter balance infractions and facilitate optimum brain function. Go to Robert F. Narcissism and Machiavellianism

Niccolò Machiavelli, born (1469-1527, age 58)

Machiavellianism: The word comes from the Italian Renaissance diplomat and writer Niccolò Machiavelli, wrote Il Principe in 1513 (The Prince), among other works. In modern psychology, Machiavellianism is one of the dark triad personalities, characterized by a duplicitous interpersonal style, a cynical disregard for morality, and a focus on self-interest and personal gain. In the 16th century, immediately following the publication of The Prince, Machiavellianism was seen as a foreign plague infecting northern European politics, originating in Italy and having first infected France.

NARCISSISM VS. MACHIAVELLIANISM

What’s the difference between Narcissism and Machiavellianism? • Narcissism is extreme selfishness. The narcissist has an inflated view of self and believes their talents and accomplishments are superior to others. • “Narcissists have a strong sense of entitlement and a constant need for attention and admiration. They are arrogant and consider themselves to be superior to others. • Attention seekers: Narcissists love attention and are often charismatic speakers and storytellers. They not only love being the center of attention, they seek it out and lap it up. For someone with a disorder, this is a concept known as narcissistic supply – narcissists need other people to supply the validation of their perceived importance. They may lash out in a fit of narcissistic rage if they don’t get the attention they are craving. In conversations, narcissistic people will often only talk of themselves without giving anyone else the opportunity to reply or respond. • Grandiose Schemes: Narcissists often believe they are superior to all others and may exaggerate their abilities and importance. Those with the disorder may come across to others as being arrogant or conceited and project as having a sense of entitlement above others. Narcissists have to have the power and control and will abuse it. If something goes wrong they are likely to project blame onto others without taking any personal responsibility for their actions. • Manipulation: Narcissists are often very manipulative. People with a narcissistic personality disorder may use and take advantage of other people to get what they want, and where they want in life. This is known as narcissistic abuse. Narcissistic people tend to have a lack of empathy, with little thought or regard for other people’s feelings. Narcissistic people will sometimes distort the truth and situations to achieve what they want".

Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli

Italian Renaissance diplomat, philosopher & writer The term Machiavellian denotes political deceit and deviousness

• Machiavellianism in psychology refers to a personality so focused on self-interests. They will manipulate, deceive and exploit others to achieve their goals. • “Machiavellians are sly, deceptive, distrusting, and manipulative. They are characterized by cynical and misanthropic beliefs, callousness, a striving for money, power and status using cunning influential tactics to manipulate their prey. In contrast to narcissists, Machiavellians do not necessarily have to be the center of attention and are satisfied with the role of puppeteer, unobtrusively pulling the strings. • Machiavellianism is the motivation to manipulate others for selfish gains. Machiavellians are exploitative and see others as a means to a selfish end. • Machiavellianism’s tendency is to be unemotional, and are able to detach themselves from conventional morality to deceive and manipulate others. • Machiavellianism in the workplace includes flattery, deceit, coercion, and abusive supervision of power. NARCISSISTIC ABUSE AFFECTS OVER 158 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE U.S. There are approximately 326 million people in the United States and 6% of them have narcissistic personality disorder, which equals 19,560,000 people. If each of those people narcissistically abuse just five people during their lives, this affects an additional 97.8 million people! • If you apply the same formula to the world population using the current population estimate of 7.5 billion = 3.3% of 7.5 billion = 247,500,000 people with antisocial personality disorder. • 6% of 7.5 billion= 450,000,000 people with narcissistic personality disorder 247,500,000 + 450,000,000 = 697,500,000 people who lack empathy or are without a conscience. • If each of those people narcissistically abuse just five people during their lives, the tally of potential damage affects over 3.4 billion people!
