THE FOUNDERS OF LINKEDIN

• LinkedIn was founded by: Reid Hoffman, Jean-Luc Vaillant, Allen Blue, Eric Ly and Konstantin Guericke.

THE CREATION OF LINKEDIN

• Reid Hoffman was captivated by the internet and the different opportunities it brought to individuals who are all seeking different things.

• According to Reid, "The world was transforming every individual into a small business.” He wanted to find a simple and easily accessible way to give people and companies the access to market themselves. He quickly realized the internet was the best way people could accomplish this.

• Reid then contacted some colleagues he has worked with at SocialNet and PayPal to discuss the visions he had.

• They worked together and formed the website LinkedIn.

• The website was launched in May of 2003.

WHAT IS LINKEDIN?

LinkedIn is one of the first websites to specialize in professional networking.

It is used for exchanging ideas, seeking clients and staying connected with other colleagues.

It can also be used to get recommendations, look at job postings, create job postings and to create online resumes.

HOW TO CREATE A LINKEDIN ACCOUNT

• Registering for LinkedIn is very simple. It asks for your name, email address and asks you to create a password.

• The next step is verifying your account using the link they sent to the email address you provided.

• Once you verify your account it gives you the option to import your contacts from your email address, facebook, twitter, and Instagram.

THE BASIC LINKED IN ACCOUNT

• The basic LinkedIn account is free of charge. Though, this account limits the amount of access you have on their website. When you have this account you have limited access to profile searches, introductions, access to those who are viewing your profile, saved search alerts, salary data, direct messages and much more.

EDITING YOUR PROFILE

• There are a few different steps you are taken through to customize your LinkedIn profile once you complete registration. Some of the information you are asked to fill in is job history, educational background, your personal interests, skills, any certifications you have and your asked to summarize yourself. You can choose to skip any step you would like to. The website says the more information about yourself you provide, the more profile views you will get.

TABS WITHIN LINKEDIN

• There are a number of different tabs on the LinkedIn website once you log in which include home, profile, jobs, connections and interest.

• The Home tab takes you to the main page where you can post updates and seeing trending information on the website.

• The profile tab has two different sections. One that allows you to edit your profile and the other which allows you to see who is viewing your profile.

• The jobs tab lists some job opportunities they think you may be interested in based off of the information in your profile. It also allows you to search for jobs using titles, keywords, and company names. Any jobs you applied for or saved while job searching on the website can also be found in the jobs tab.

• The connections tab gives you three different things to choose from which are, keep in touch, add connections, and find alumni. You can connect with any contacts you added through this tab. You can also search for others using this.

• Interest is the last tab on the home page. You can join groups, add companies, follow others and explore different universities using this tab.

• Linked in currently has 225 million members in over 200 countries

• Two people every second are joining the website

• Available in 20 different languages

• Rated as the 12th best website of 2014.
