    PERSONAL LEARNING PAPER

    Every day I interact with at least 60 of men working in mydepartment. Managing leave, promotions and discipline of all these peopleis a key issue for me. They directly work on costly assets like aircraft andneeds to be psychologically sound and mentally present at the job. Everyindividual has a family and a work life; he has to maintain both of them ina sound balance. In sector like Defence, sometimes job takes the priorityover your family. Moreover its very basic fact that no two individuals aresame and will definitely have different opinions on the same case. Many atimes it leads to clashes in between the senior workers and juniors or maybe in between officers and the men.

    Over a period of time I found that while solving the dispute it isvery important to understand both sides. Listening each persons viewfrom personal and the professional manner gives a load of informationabout the root cause of the dispute. Most of the time overburdening andnon availability of the proper environment leads to the clash.

    Discipline is another problem which is faced everyday; juniors maynot behave properly and pay the marks of respect or will give fakereasons for leaves. Its also been found men are missing from the place of duty or sleeping on the duty.

    Use of punishment as a deterrent works fine in this regards as themen are generally young and recruited when they are just out of theirhigh-schools or higher secondary. Deliberate use of punishment is thekey. Thorough investigation is always done before awarding anypunishment; but when found guilty the punishment awarded is in suchway that no one would dare to repeat it again.

    The motivation of men is another area which is quite difficult tohandle as the pay what they get is meagre and increments are very low.This is generally taken care by understanding their needs and taking careof their welfare. Talking to them regarding their family and personalissues which they generally face on a regular basis gives the state of persons mind and what are his immediate requirements. Anothermotivation is that allowing them to study and helping them to appear forexamination to get into higher ranks. Giving awards to worthy men on

    specific functions is also is big motivator. Sending reports to theheadquarters about the extraordinary jobs undertaken by men gives theman immense satisfaction and motivate them to innovate and take moreinterest in work.

    Importance of the harmony required amongst all thelevels/hierarchy of the organisation is very important from the efficiencyand operational point of view. It can never be comprised at any cost asits the basis on which the entire organization works. Any organizationlacking of communal harmony is a mess and wou ld lead to disaster.
