This includes all elements from signals to precast to handrails and installation details to ensure MBTA standards are met. In the case of design-build. design is to be performed by the designer-of-record. and all required documentation such as calculations must be provided. Deferring designer-of -record responsibility to the Contractor will not be permitted except as allowed by this Design Directive. Project managers are required to verify that the design of all permanent construction and affected elements is included in the designer’s contract. and that it is provided at successive phases of design. When a designer advises that an element would be best designed by a contractor or fabricator, an assessment of the proposal must be made, and the Project Manager shall prepare the attached waiver request for signature by the Assistant General Manager or Chief Engineer. fhe waiver request should be made at the earliest stage of design possible. All waivers must be submitted in advance of the circulation of Pre-Bid Reviex Control Sheets.
