Missions “The Grove’s Helping Hand”
"The Grove's Helping Hand” is a plan to give a helping hand to struggling families who run out of groceries before the paycheck arrives, or maybe someone has been in the hospital and just doesn't have strength to tackle the grocery store yet. Perhaps we could give a helping hand to some
elderly person who can't get out at all. A food closet has been constructed in the rear of the chapel. We will be accepting cereal, Pop-tarts, and breakfast bars during the month of September. If you’d like to help with this ministry, please contact the coordinator, Nancy Watson.
Thank you for supporting this mission and helping to feed the hungry.
October = Fill the Pantry Month! An Initiative of “The Grove's Helping Hand”
October is World Hunger Month and we're celebrating it by filling our church food pantry. “The Grove's Helping Hand” ministry feeds families throughout the year as needs arise. We're encouraging every family to bring non-perishable food items to worship every Sunday in October. Just think, if every family brought one can of food per week, we'd have hundreds of cans of food to start the new church year. Thanks for giving back!
The Barnabus Home Instead Ministry
The Sunday school ministry designed for shut-ins and nursing home residents now has a name! Some teams have opted to visit on Sunday mornings prior to Sunday school while others will be going out during the week. If you're interested in visiting our shut-ins and nursing home residents for Sunday school, please contact Carol Snow. Thanks for your prayers as we launch this exciting new ministry.

Special Times, Special Season
I know it is only the middle of September, but it is already time to start thinking about Christmas. There are many special opportunities to serve during the Advent and Christmas season. To kick-off the Advent season, our worship service on Sunday, December 1, 2013, will include several components from our traditional “Hanging of the
Green” service. If you have any suggestions or would love to assist in planning with this service, please let me know as soon as possible. A children’s Christmas program has been planned for Sunday afternoon, December 8, 2013. Our sanctuary choir will perform the Christmas cantata entitled Bethlehem Morning on Sunday morning, December 15, 2013, during the 11:00 service. We welcome anyone who would like to "sing for the season" and join our choir for the cantata. On Wednesday evening, December 18, 2013, we'll have our annual church-wide Christmas caroling. We hope to fill the church bus and church van as we go out into the community and sing about the birth of the one who was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger, Jesus. To conclude our special services, a special “Candlelight Christmas Communion” service has been planned for Sunday evening, December 22, 2013. As we prepare for this special time of the year, I hope you will find a way to be involved as we remember "the reason for the season."
Sing for the Season! From Brentwood Music Publications, creators of the best-selling Ready To Sing Series, comes a compelling musical for Christmas entitled Bethlehem Morning. Created by the Dove Award-Winning team of Sue C. Smith and Russell Mauldin and arranged and orchestrated by Mr. Ready To Sing, Russell Mauldin, this celebration of the birth of Christ is an experience that our choir and congregation will never forget.
Bethlehem. We merely say the name and our minds are flooded with images. We may never have been there, but it's our backdrop for the story of Christmas year after year. Bethlehem Morning tells the miraculous story of Christmas through traditional carols and Christmas favorites, but also reminds us that the story of God's love didn't stop there. 1 John 4:10 says, “This is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” Jesus came for us when He was born in Bethlehem, and it was for us He went to Calvary. Join our sanctuary choir as we take this Gospel message into our community of faith and beyond.
Bethlehem Morning includes: Joy in Bethlehem! Medley (Bethlehem Morning with Joy to the World!) • Children Go Where I Send Thee • Bethlehem Manger Medley (O Little Town of Bethlehem with I Come to the Manger) • Come, Let Us Worship Medley (O Come, All Ye Faithful with Here I Am to Worship) • Bethlehem Morning • This Must Be the Place with We Are the Reason • The Reason for Joy! Finale (We Are the Reason with Joy to the World!)
Our special rehearsals will last from 3:00 - 4:15 PM unless noted otherwise. September 22 ~ October 6 ~ October 20
November 3 ~ November 17 ~ December 1
Musically yours, Paul Danley
