After breakfast leave for Kandy, via visiting *Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded,
the orphanage has grown to be a big family today. The number of elephants has increased to more than 40 now, including baby Elephants
brought from various parts, as well as the babies born, as a result of the captive-breeding programme. A unique experience never to be
missed.

considered Sri Lanka's most prized possession.

DAY 03 KANDY – (115KM / 3hrs) – COLOMBO
After breakfast visit *Royal Botanical Gardens – 147 acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Gampola and
Kandy. There are more than 5,000 species of trees, plants and creepers. Some rare and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world are
found in the gardens. Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists. There are 5 Palm Avenues beautifying the gardens, the
earliest and tallest Palm Avenue (Royal Palm Avenue) was planted in 1905 and the Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, with the
largest seed of all plants in the world is one such avenue.

the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its triple-moated
defence the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous
palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived
in the form of Frescoes of life sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original colour.

DAY03 DAMBULLA – (72KM / 2.5 hrs) – KANDY
After breakfast visit *Dambulla Cave Temple - a vast isolated rock mass 500ft high and a mile around the base. Here is found the famous
Rock Temple dating to the First Century BC. The caves of Dambulla sheltered the King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from
Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found on the Island.
Thereafter proceed to Kandy, En route visit *Spice Garden at Matale and see the luscious Cinnamon, Cardamoms, Pepper plants etc. You can
also purchase your requirements of spices.

DAY 03 DAMBULLA – (67KM / 2.5hrs) – POLONNANWA – (0.5hrs) – MINNENRIYA – (2hrs) – DAMBULLA
After breakfast commences an excursion to *Polonnaruwa - the Capital of Sri Lanka from 11th - 13th Century, contains some splendid and
spectacular statues. Lankatileke, Tivanka and Thuparama are the most beautiful and largest shrine ruins and Tivanka has the best example
of frescoes of the Polonnaruwa period. Rankot Vihara and Kiriwehera are well preserved large stupas, and Gal Vihare - a rock shrine, has
four Buddha statues, two seated,
one standing and one reclining and Parakrama Bahu statue are examples of Sinhalese stone carver. The Vata-da-ge is a unique creation of
the Sri Lankan artists. Kiri (‘White’) Vihara this large whitewashed plaster has survived 7 centuries of abandonment to the jungle between
the collapse of the Polonnaruwa Kingdom and its rediscovery in the 19 century. It is the best preserved of the island’s unrestored dagobas.
Afternoon commence a *A Jeep Safari at Minneriya National Park - This National Park with 8889 hectares in extent is famous for it large
population of elephants in herds of 100 to 150 roaming in the jungle and seen in the catchment area of the lake. Entrance is at
Ambagaswewa about 6 km from Habarana on the main Habarana Polonnaruwa road. Office is by the side of the main road. Elephants, about
300 wild elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer, sloth bear, Sambhur, leopards, crocodiles, jackals, 9 kinds of amphibians, 25
kinds of reptiles, 160 species of birds, 26 varieties of fishes, 78 varieties of butterflies are recorded from the Minneriya National Park.

DAY04 KANDY – (77KM / 3hrs) – NUWARA ELIYA
After breakfast visit *Royal Botanical Gardens – 147 acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Gampola and
Kandy. There are more than 5,000 species of trees, plants and creepers. Some rare and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world are
found in the gardens. Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists. There are 5 Palm Avenues beautifying the gardens, the
earliest and tallest Palm Avenue (Royal Palm Avenue) was planted in 1905 and the Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, with the

largest seed of all plants in the world is one such avenue.
Thereafter proceed to Nuwara Eliya, visiting a tea plantation & factory en route.
*Nuwara Eliya - The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It
is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but is really just like an England spring day although the temperature does drop
at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style
mansions.
*Tea Plantation - Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from
China. More were introduced from Assam in 1839. In 1867 a Scottish Planter named James Taylor planted tea seedlings on an 8 hectares of
forest land, in the Loolcondura Estate. In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23lbs being shipped to London.
Tea will grow well only on rolling terrain and is classified be elevation into low grown, medium grown, high grown, into 3 main groups. In
1996 Sri Lanka has produced 258 million kgs. of tea and has earned Rs. 34,068 million by exporting 244 million kgs. of tea.

DAY05 NUWARA ELIYA – (94KM / 3.5hrs) – KITULGALA – (86KM / 3.5hrs) – COLOMBO
After breakfast leave for Colombo, via *Kitulagala - is situated between Nuwara Eliya and Colombo. It’s 56 miles away from the city. It’s a
small town on the bank of the kelani river and is in low elevation rain forest are with a small path of rain forest left on the south bank of the
river.this is a beautiful area selected in 1957 for the award winning film '' Bridge on the River Kwai''. Also witness St.Calre's & Devon Water
Falls.

Afternoon commence a city tour of Colombo with shopping. *Colombo - A drive through the city will take you to the Fort and Pettah - the
commercial area of the city and tree-lined Colombo - 07 Cinnamon Gardens. Colombo 3, 4, 5, 8 are the prime residential area of the City.
Visit Fort, and Pettah for Shopping. The Hindu Temple at Sea Street, lined with goldsmith's shops, the Dutch Church at Wolfendaal, dating
back to 1749. The historic Davatagaha Mosque, Independence Hall, B.M.I.C.H, see the replica of Avukana Buddha
and the Independence Square.

DAY 02 NEGOMBO – (100KM / 2.5hrs) – PINNAWELA – (90KM / 3.5hrs) – SIGIRIYA – (16KM/0.8hrs) – DAMBULLA
After breakfast leave for Dambulla, via visiting *Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded,
the orphanage has grown to be a big family today. The number of elephants has increased to more than 40 now, including baby Elephants
brought from various parts, as well as the babies born, as a result of the captive-breeding programme. A unique experience never to be
missed.

Afternoon climb *Sigiriya Rock Fortress-is home to the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder
of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its
triple-moated defence the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great
and sumptuous palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular
painting survived in the form of Frescoes of life sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original colour.

DAY03 DAMBULLA – (67KM / 2.5hrs) – POLONNANWA – (0.5hrs) – MINNERNIYA – (2hrs) – DAMBULLA
After breakfast commences an excursion to *Polonnaruwa - the Capital of Sri Lanka from 11th - 13th Century, contains some splendid and
spectacular statues. Lankatileke, Tivanka and Thuparama are the most beautiful and largest shrine ruins and Tivanka has the best
example of frescoes of the Polonnaruwa period. Rankot Vihara and Kiriwehera are well preserved large stupas, and Gal Vihare - a rock
shrine, has four Buddha statues, two seated, one standing and one reclining and Parakrama Bahu statue are examples of Sinhalese stone
carver. The Vata-da-ge is a unique creation of the Sri Lankan artists. Kiri (‘White’) Vihara this large white-washed plaster has survived 7
centuries of abandonment to the jungle between the collapse of the Polonnaruwa Kingdom and its rediscovery in the 19 century. It is the
best preserved of the island’s unrestored dagobas.

Afterwards commence a *A Jeep Safari at Minneriya National Park - This National Park with 8889 hectares in extent is famous for it large
population of elephants in herds of 100 to 150 roaming in the jungle and seen in the catchment area of the lake. Entrance is at
Ambagaswewa about 6 km from Habarana on the main Habarana Polonnaruwa road. Office is by the side of the main road. Elephants, about
300 wild elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer, sloth bear, Sambhur, leopards, crocodiles, jackals, 9 kinds of amphibians, 25
kinds of reptiles, 160 species of birds, 26 varieties of fishes, 78 varieties of butterflies are recorded from the Minneriya National Park.

DAY04 DAMBULLA – (72KM / 2.5 hrs) – KANDY
After breakfast visit *Dambulla Cave Temple - a vast isolated rock mass 500ft high and a mile around the base. Here is found the famous
Rock Temple dating to the First Century BC. The caves of Dambulla sheltered the King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from
Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found on the Island.
Thereafter proceed to Kandy, En route visit *Spice Garden at Matale and see the luscious Cinnamon, Cardamoms, Pepper plants etc. You can
also purchase your requirements of spices.

*Kandy - the hill capital, venue of the annual Perahera. The last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815.

*Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha's Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious

Morning hiking at *Horton Plains National Park –Nuwara Eliya via Ambewela and Pattipola, is the Horton Plains only 3160 hectares in extent.
Known to Sri Lankans as Mahaeliya, it became Horton Plains after Sir Robert Horton, British Governor from 1831- 1837. Horton Plains
became a Nature Reserve in 1969 and upgraded as a National Park in 1988 due to its unique watershed and bio-diversity values. Its flora
has high level of endemism. The hills are covered with diverse wet low evergreen forest with even large trees grown flattened to the ground
on the higher windswept slopes. Horton Plains harbours 52 species of resident birds and 11 species of migrant birds. More then 2,000 to
3,000 Sambhur, Bear Monkey, Leopard, Barking Deer, Giant Squirrel, Fishing Cat, Wild Boar and Hares roam in the forests and grasslands
but only seldom they could be seen other than the Sambhur in the evening and morning. - “World’s End” and “Little World’s End” falling from
the Horton Plains 1000 feet and 3000 feet respectively, to the land below and the Baker’s Falls are places you should visit. This is the only
Park where visitors could walk on their own on the designated tracks.
