It is with great pleasure I welcome all competitors, teachers and all supporters to our 2021 festival of performing arts.

This year the New Plymouth Performing Arts Competitions Society again feel very lucky that our 72nd festival is able to proceed in what seems to still be extremely challenging times for all.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our adjudicators Dr Tessa Romano & Arlie McCormick, who are both visiting us from Otago University, Dunedin. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to adjudicate for us, and we hope you enjoy your stay and find time to enjoy what Taranaki has to offer.

Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters of the 2021 festival, your involvement and continued support is key to our success. I would like to acknowledge the dedication of the parents and teachers who assist in the preparation of our young performers.

My sincere thanks go to all our conveners and committee members who have worked tirelessly to bring the 2021 festival to you.

And lastly, to all our young performers, enjoy our festival and I hope you take away many fond memories as you continue to do what you all love.

Please read and pass on to your family and fan club as well.

We are very privileged this year to be able to perform in two beautiful facilities; Holy Trinity Church on Saturday and 4th Wall Theatre on Sunday.

Respect of each other, the facilities and yourself is a foundation for a wonderful competition experience.

We will all relax more and come away with an enjoyable experience and memories if everyone follows some guidelines:

• It is very distracting if people are talking and moving around. Please stay in your seat while a person is performing on stage. Wait for the item to finish and people to start clapping before leaving the auditorium. (This is common courtesy to the performers as well as the other people in the audience who do not want to be distracted from what they are watching on stage).

• Please stay silent during a performance.

• Please leave the theatre how you found it. Take away all rubbish, costumes and any other items that you brought in. NO food is to be consumed in the auditorium.

• Please remember that you might be sitting behind someone’s grandmother. Only speak about other performers in a way that you would like to be spoken about.
