Performing a Planned ECG with
Electronic Order (Mortara 12 Lead
ECG machines)
The Integrated ECG process can be performed in one of two
ways:
Planned ECGs where the electronic ECG order is created in ieMR prior to the ECG being taken
Unplanned ECGs that are performed as required for the patient, without an ECG order being available in ieMR.
For information about the process for Unplanned ECGs, please see the Unplanned ECGs and Matching to an Order quick reference guide
There are currently two models of Mortara 12 Lead ECG
machines used in The Townsville Hospital – the ELI 280 and the
ELI 380. The steps required will vary dependent on which model
is in use. Ensure to follow the appropriate process for the
device being used.

1. Open ieMR PowerChart for the required patient and
encounter.
2. Navigate to the Orders screen and place electronic
order for ECG. Refer to the Placing 12 Lead ECG
Orders quick reference guide for more information.
3. If a WAM (Wireless Acquisition Module) is used then
this is synced first by pressing the On button on the
WAM. Connect ECG leads to patient as per normal
procedure
Wireless Acquisition Module (WAM)
4. Select the Patient Information button then
select the Modality Work List (MWL) tab. Ensure the
Query Code for location (clinic/ward) is the correct
location and press Sync. The MWL will then display
all ECG orders placed for that location, e.g. TCCU.
Please NOTE some Query Codes may be a
combination of several locations.
5. At this time WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) will
be confirmed. No LAN should be expected.

6. Scan the Patient ID Barcode
This barcode will push the patient’s UR number
without FIN to the ID on the ECG machine. This will
allow a more refined search for the patient’s orders
NOTE: Do not scan the square QR / AZTEC barcodes which is the FIN not UR number.
7. Select the correct ECG order and complete your
normal Positive Patient Identification checks.
Choosing the order will populate the patient
information window.
8. The Patient Information window has a comment
field. These comments can be viewed in ieMR and
on the printed ECG. Comments may relate to the
patient symptoms, reason for ECG or to the type of
ECG attended e.g. V4R or Chest pain
9. Once details in the Patient Identification window are
complete, select Done. Select the ECG acquisition
button which will then display the ECG
report.
10. Transmit will send the electronic ECG image to the
ieMR. A message will confirm transmission of the
ECG to ieMR
Press Done to confirm. A paper copy can be printed
by pressing the Print button
11. The ECG should now be able to be viewed from your
patient’s chart in ieMR in the Results menu and ECG
tab or in the Cardiovascular section.

Always complete positive patient identification when performing an ECGs.
Patient details will clear if the MWL page is accessed or if there is no ECG signal for longer than 60 seconds. When a patient is selected from the work list the previous patient’s details will be over written.
Please note the Modality Work List (MWL) Query Code for TCCU is a combination of Coronary Care Unit, Chest Pain Assessment Ward and Cardiac Catheter Lab.
